@goldmember-db4pb But any so called "loser" or unattractive person can become popular by getting fit, good grooming and clothes, and learning to be humorous and socially confident. It takes work and time, but achievable for anyone. There are many celebrities not traditionally attractive who built careers by self improvement and are now admired (Steve Buschemi, Rebel Wilson, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Farley, Danny DeVIto, etc).

What are useful social skills that can be picked up quickly? By default, respect people. Cough, but cover your mouth with forearm, not palm. A smile at strangers is not bad; it's humility. Silence is the loudest display of anger; rest is immaturity. Most people find unnecessary touching uncomfortable, remember that. Interruption is impatience. Great people respect disagreement. When you speak in a group, try and look at everyone at least once. If you are not comfortable looking in eyes, look at the face at least. When someone speaks, nod to make them comfortable, even if you don't agree. If you don't know what to speak, listen to people and understand what they want to listen. Don't be rigid on your opinions. However your interaction was, leave with positivity. A smile, and a positive statement of appreciation works well. Never ask uncomfortable details from people in public. Interact more with nervous people to make them comfortable and to leave a positive impact on them. If your palms sweat, keep two handkerchiefs in your pocket, always wipe before shaking hands. If someone is sitting on your side, don't fold your leg in a way that your shoe faces that person. Keep your used utensils yourself in the sink or bin; this makes you subconsciously look responsible and humble. Be a pleasant person, don't spit out negativity in front of people, however bad you feel inside. Be sure before quoting facts; wrong facts put your image down.

The "sincerity fakeout" is what used to be called "popping the balloon" - it works best when the "sincerity" is built on socially mediated information (pre-processed societal assumptions and expectations we take for granted) - followed with breaking rapport by saying the opposite of what's expected, often involving an obviously absurd observation and/or accusation. For example, at a Xmas party I was randomly temporarily seated next to a woman I wanted to meet and a donation basket was passed around. As she handed me the basket, I flubbed the hand-off and dropped the basket on the floor. Instead of the expected apology, with a slight shake of the head, commented "you're so clumsy" in a way that indicated I wasn't serious. Later I saw her on the dance floor and commented on how well-dressed everyone was. Followed by, "I mean, look at you! You look... halfway decent." Got a big laugh. Blow up the balloon, then deflate it. But obviously this needs to be tailored to people and situation. The more attractive and confident the individuals the more you can get away with without offending someone.

I actually do much of this without thinking. Jokes come naturally to me, and half the time it's at my own expense. "Obviously I can't be trusted alone with it." - an inside joke about me breaking things. "I'll bring what you need in 2 hours." - currently referencing me taking two hours to bring a coworker something. The ones that are not inside jokes, I do on the fly. Most of the time it's at my own expense anyways, sometimes it's at their own expense. 9 times out of 10, it lands with a lasting impact. Anything really good, everyone just continues to reference it days or even weeks later. I also do a lot of encouragement, which are not so much tiny jokes, but tiny jabs. "Why don't you?" followed by... "Don't worry about it, just do it." Something a bit extreme, but that notion gets into their head and they usually remember something like that. Of course, all through context.

After watching this insightful video, I felt like an AI learning about humor. The celebrities that pulled it off makes it looked so easy and natural which then put me in an awkward mood feeling I have rusty cogs in my humor part of the brain. My father-in-law once said if you have to explain the joke then it's not worth telling it. Maybe I'm autistic and just realizing it for the first time.

So, in short: 1: say things that exaggerate or are absurd, so it's obvious they're jokes; or, 2: use funny teasing (using the above); 3: for best results, tease yourself; 4: Vary the use of one and two (and three) so you're not boring/predictable.

When someone makes the comment that people never change I sincerely and strenuously object. "That's just not true." I begin. "My relationship with my mom was absolutely horrible but like four years ago she changed and our relationship was transformed overnight. As bad as it was before - it's that good now. Yup, ever since she died..."

What are the most powerful quotes you have ever come across? Stay genuine, tables will turn. In life you are presented with two choices “evolve or repeat”. If you get that gut feeling that something isn’t right about a person or situation, trust it. Be ready to lose anyone anytime. Apologize when you’re wrong. Stop looking for quotes that support your stupidity. Commitment isn’t scary, wasting years of your life is. Anything you lose by speaking your truth isn’t a loss. It’s an alignment. The less you say, the more your words will matter. Your life isn’t yours if you always care what others think. Working on yourself, by yourself, for yourself. UPvote if you feel relatable with any of these lines.

These are great quotes - are you the creator of all of them? Or did you borrow from other sources? A few really hit deep for me: "Your life isn’t yours if you always care what others think" - fantastic insight! "Be ready to lose anyone anytime." - good reminder about impermanence! "Commitment isn’t scary, wasting years of your life is." - so true; in fact, commitment is liberating! Thank you!

Just a question. Why is it that when ever I tried to make people laugh I often feel that the people that I am trying to amuse often don't bother to even listen or try to understand that I am joking .Giving me the feeling that I am boring and that nobody sees me as funny and I am not interesting

I have a sub group of friends at work and we have a bit of a dark humor. Once in a while one of us would report going out with their "normal" friends and said something supposedly funny and nobody got it. It's also fine being the weirdo to some (or most) people.
