    On the note of adding friction, for anyone who can't delete the social apps, stuffing them deep into a folder or even a folder in a folder adds a level of friction that may prevent you from habitually clicking it open. Combine that with filling your home screen with apps that you may want to use instead, a meditation app, ebook reader, productivity tools, etc. will do the opposite, by making it easy to do that instead of something harder like digging through folders.

    I don’t think it’s effective though. Anyone can just take them out of the new folders and re-enter the addiction cycle. It’s ok but to me, the best strategy is still to delete all of one’s apps and accounts.

    For the minimalists around: 1:25 | 1. Track your time. Mobile: build-in screen time tracker. PC: RescueTime. 2:20 | 2. Turn off notifications. Plan time instead. 3:13 | 3. Turn your phone to black and white. 4:04 | 4. Delete Social Media from your phone. 5:00 | 5. Block distracting websites. 5:28 | 6. Create some distance. Leave the phone at home, then go to a workout.

    I really like the idea of having a wireless headphones but I can't get over the price. But recently i was lucky enough to find a pair of JBLs buds on the ground (i'm sorry for the person who lost them) and it is really worth it. At desk i still use wired over ear headphones but for commute it's really convenient. BUT buy a pair only if you can afford it so it won't feel like you're making a big financial sacrifice (saving up for a pair, it's considered sacrifice). This is my way of thinking and somehow it helps me don't buy overpriced products that I don't really need.

  • @jacob5208

    @jacob5208

    Vannerz I think the price I pretty competitive for the product they are. Most higher end wireless headphones hover around the $200 mark, and AirPods are $148 on Amazon or $159 directly from Apple. They’re not necessary for most people, but I enjoy mine.

    Im all for screen-less time for most of my days. My boyfriend and I deleted social media due to many relationships being compared to on Twitter with high expectations ;which ultimately harms other relationships. Not only relationships, but we found we spend so much time watching other peoples lives, comparing ourselves to others and neglecting our own time on earth. We stay with KZread to obviously entertain with videos but Im glad more and more people are realizing how harmful screen-time is. For him, he spends an hour on his phone, 30 minutes in the morning after breakfast, and 30 minutes before bed, and occasional texts messages throughout the day. And throughout the course of us doing this the past year it has widened our perspective dramatically and helped us appreciate not only life, but time, friendships, and family. Love your videos, I'm glad people on here can agree on these types of subjects.

    One tip: Have a shortcut that automatically plays a "Chilling out music" playlist and a "Study time" playlist both added to your homescreen. That way all u have to do it click the app icon and the music plays. This reduces screen time and also the temptation to use ur phone for something unnecessary. It works pretty great for me. But make sure to have music you like on the study playlist so you are more likely to be excited to listen to those music hence allowing u to be more excited to study.

I am a social media strategist and manager, I usually work contract work at agencies and previously it was a full time salary job, and in a general day, im on the computer 8-9 hours for work. But, if shit hits the fan with a crisis (and depending on the client/job, it def happens) then forget it, im working on the laptop late night and early next morning. I can literally feel my eyes wanting to crawl out of my head. I feel like i can't minimize my time because its my livelihood (and ill get fired) but i also know it is NOT helping my mental and physical health.

I think that is a really impactful first step and also, reorganize the apps that we'll really need in our screen. I deleted Facebook and Instagram, and i keep my work out playlist and blocknote for my writing, to do list and groceries list to shop, because as visual beings, our eyes can focus on what we stand as our priorities to see in our devices. This was a really great video. Cheers from Chile!

    I have set 5 minutes max on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on my phone and then the apps are blocked- I can still go for longer if I actually need to look at something (I have a couple of school groups on Facebook but that’s about it). That way I am a lot more deliberate about the way I spend my time on screen. It’s not always easy - I find that once I start my day on my phone, I tend to allow myself to spend a lot more time on it throughout the day. What works best to start the day without it is to leave my phone on really low battery at night so it’s kind of useless in the mornings and that way I need to charge it while I do other stuff - have breakfast, exercise, shower. It’s crazy how once I start the day without it, I feel like I don’t need it at all. But getting over that initial friction in the mornings tends to be the hardest.

Even if I have a long way to go. The goal is max 1-2 hours per day. The other thing I do is to put the phone in another room, I do have sound turned on so I can hear if someone calls or texts. Texts I usually see on my Garmin so no need to fetch my phone for that. Oh and i also sort of try to find my trapholes, for example I track food and I used to do that on my phone. Now I do that on paper instead because every time i pick the phone up to do one thing I end up doing 10 more things. During this video I also turned the screen to bw, didn’t know that was possible!

    Wow😀. I didn't know it's possible to turn display on grayscale. I try this right away to reduce my screentime. Who is with me?

    I'll turn off notifications after watching this video. I've done it a while back, but then I turned it back on since that's how I contacted my friend when we were in Paris back in December. Great video.
