I can share from personal experience and grateful to the Malaysian healthcare system. My 14 yo late son passed away in 2015 from a genetic disease at HUKM Cheras. His genetic condition was discovered when he was 5 years old. Immediately, my wife then also took his case back to her Japanese doctor at her hometown and they agreed our Msian profs were doing the right thing. In his last 73 days in ICU, he was given the best treatment. He was on a ventilator that 73 days. When we had to take him back for his last living hours, our bill was zero (from his OKU card). The real bill would have easily exceeded RM250K+. The hospital cashier just told me " go back and take care of him, the government has taken care of the rest". My son died peacefully at home. I thank all the kind hearted professors, doctors and nurses who took care of him since he was 5 years old from UMMC HUKM, GH and MOH. They prolonged his life as much as possible.

First and foremost my thoughts are with you on your loss - may your beloved son rest in peace. Second, I totally agree with your remark on the praiseworthy Malaysia's public healthcare. I have been associated with HUKM for some years and I know how dedicated the specialist doctors there. Many of those specialists - professors and lecturers of UKM Medical Faculty - could earn much higher income in private medical centres but they choose to teach and practise in a public university teaching hospital.

@@muhd7144 you're absolutely right on HUKM. During the difficult period in UCU the prof said to me "if you don't give up on your son, we won't give up on him too". Such was the dedication of them until the very end. When we had to bring my son back for his last ambulance ride home, all the profs, MOs and 23 ICU nurses followed his bed until we put him into the ambulance. We cried because we were touched by their gesture. One ICU nurse told us that every child that enters ICU is our "anak". How can she bear to see her anak go like this. That's why today I tell my friends, not necessarily private hospitals are the best.

Thank you for sharing so many positive things about Malaysia. It helps us look at the country from a different perspective and appreciate so many little things we don't realise are blessings. Usually, most Malaysians would think that Japan is a much better country in almost every aspect, so it is refreshing to hear from a Japanese who can point out many positive things about our country. It helps us to be more thankful and to complain less. 🙏🙏

I personally think Malaysian Healthcare system is the one thing that you can confidently be proud of. The system itself is good, its just most complaints come from the high volume of patients and lack of medical staffs. But our integrated healthcare, expertise, equipments and affordability are already pretty good compared to most countries.

This video made me miss my country so much. I’m a Malaysian currently living in Japan, and when I first got sick and had to go to the clinic here in Japan, it was a nightmare for me. Not to mention having to fill too much paperwork and after examination from the doctor, was told that I have to go get the medicines myself at a pharmacy, which was separated from the clinic, there I had to wait another 30 mins or so to receive my medicine not to mention having to fill another paperwork! It’s such a headache and really inconvenient to not be able to receive medicine immediately when you’re in so much pain. Also if you compare to other countries, prescription as well as over the counter painkillers here are in weaker doses.

Even the slip for medical leave can be obtained quickly! I was once sick during the examination day but I haven't get an MC (Medical Certificate) yet since the fever was worsen at that morning (the paper is also at that morning as well). So I told my lecturer if I can send the MC later (since I am supposed to send the proof why am I not taking the exams for being able to sit a Special Exam) and she give a pass. At that evening after my parents from school (they are teachers), I went to a clinic in my housing area with my mom and get the medicine + MC. The dispensing of medicine at the clinics is traced back to when pharmacies and pharmacist were not easily found. So the clinic became a 1 stop. Company insurance can come in different forms. The co-pay of 30% in Japan may be due to the high cost of medical care. In Malaysia it's quite traditional for larger companies to have panel clinics and bills are co-paid by the company and the insurance company but this might lead to the abuse of utilisation from the staff. Credit card is accepted at least as far as 20 years ago from what I remember, at least in KL. Back then the insurance penetration rate for Malaysians were much lower so credit cards are accepted as a form of deposit

Sunami-san, hi Your channel is one of my favorite foreigners living in Malaysia Thanks for your gratitude on Malaysia government healthcare, I'm a Malaysian, I'm proud to say, Malaysia government hospital healthcare is top in worldwide. Yes, you're right. Any illness, go to government clinic (Klinik Kerajaan) 1st. If your illness is serious and need consultation from specialist, will get doctor reference letter, doctor will recommend best hospital and nearby your home for what kind of illness you have. But, you only need 1 thing if you want to get consultation at government hospital, it's patience. There are many citizens and foreigners getting treatment at government hospital, as government hospital healthcare is well known, even better than private hospital. Majority private hospital doctors are blinded with money, they always ask this question, "Do you have insurance?". If you have insurance, typical doctor will write your illness with many kinds of story, adding salt and pepper, make your illness more serious and spicy, with doctors' signature and stamp, then submit to your insurance. Insurance will pay high amounts to private hospital, then deduct that high amounts from your insurance plan. It's not that I'm prejudice towards private hospital, 'cause this case is happened to my elder cousin brother. So, Sunami-san, take care of yourself. Visit government clinic is the best option for you if you're not feeling well next time. 😊

My sister antidepressants medicine also free no charge for monthly supply when she have a treatment at the Psychiatric Clinic at Kajang Hospital. She just need paid only RM5 for the registration fees. I saw that the medicine is quite expensive actually if you looking outside at the pharmacy.. My sister got few different brand and type of antidepressants medicine. Right now she consume an Olenza.. But nowadays she seem recovery.. Also the appointment with psychiatric only one in two months.. Last time she sick, need to have an appointment every two weeks with the doctor.. Not even that, she also got a free treatment and medication under the dermatologist specialist every month.. Seems like for being a citizen of Malaysian have a lot benefit when it come to Health Treatment.. Just my opinion..

Well health care is affordable in Malaysia. For Malaysian, if we have get treatment in hospital for serious injuries normally we pay RM 1. The rest is taken care by the goverment. Hope this will last forever

It's called primary health care. We learn it from the British. I believe all British commonwealth nations are using the same system; Singapore, Aussie, Canada. Not sure about Pakistan & India. For non-citizens, it's best to go to private clinic and hospitals because the fee at government clinic & hospitals are more expensive for non-citizens compared to going to private. However that depends on which clinics too. Some private clinics are more expensive than the government.

@@jlcgu11 yup. That's called dispensing separation. Our gov here used to plan to do that here. But the primary care doctors association fight back, so the gov cancelled that. But from time to time the pharmacist association keep raised this issues, asking the gov to implement the dispensing separation.

Malaysia are not advance in term of medical tech, far from Japan. But this country treat well its citizen and foreigner. We have very good and convenient medical system.
