YO! Looks like Nikon is listening! The newly announced Z9 (October 2021) now has GREEN confirmation when using AF-C! The Z9 also includes 3D focus with intelligent subject tracking as well as some new dynamic sizes (S, M, L). They've also announced that picking the size of your focus point will be possible with a future firmware release. Nice. But can we get it for the Z6 II as well?!?

All of us subscribed to this channel know that Omar's use of "Hate" is an abbreviation of "I mean I like this camera but I don't but at the same time I do.. I mean there are positives... so I don't fully dislike it but I will critique it cause I would love it more if..." Which is just one of the reasons we love him 😂 even though we #FUJI4LIFE, he's still giving us unbiased reviews by showing us the positives and critiques instead of just saying "no. I HATE IT. It's not fuji. That's all I have to say."

I was smiling when you complained about waiting 2 seconds to get the view of the shot done. I learned the profession of a photographer in 1980. We used Polaroid in Hasselblads or large format and then waited half a day to get back the developed films or prints. So 2 seconds a relative luxury :)

Yep, while there's several buttons which should be configurable (drive, Exp Comp), the U1/2/3 get you a lot more control over what your few function buttons can do since you can have 4 sets thanks to them.

Not really. There are several key settings that do not save to U1/U2/U3. Drive/Release, Storage folder, Picture Control, Multiple Exposure, Interval Timer, Time Lapse, Focus Shifting. You also can't change from PSAM within a U1/U2/U3. If your PASM is much different from your U1/U2/U3 you really have to mess it up to change the mode of a U1/U2/U3 preset. I still prefer Nikon over Canon and Sony, but it bugs me EVERY time I use it. Sony lets you program about 80 functions to an Fn button, or even other buttons (like the dial-pad.) Nikon often limits you to 5-15 options. Playback can only be remapped to a lens button, and only a few S lenses have buttons on them. I've been using Nikon DSLR's since the D70. Every other manufacturer puts playback/delete on the right, including most point and shoots. I do give credit for Nikon having the press delete twice to confirm though.

@@DUCzillaMonster My X-T4 is now sold. Gone. You asked why I was not happy with the Fuji X-T4. I was not happy with the video autofocus, with the stepping changes in exposure when I zoomed in or out during video (yes even in all manual exposure with manual ISO, this is a known Fuji problem with the aperture calculation due to changing focal length) even though I got the wonderful small rig grip, I did not like the position of the shutter button back on the camera, and the more I used the camera the more I used the front and rear dials instead of the top dials and they are small and not that great. I do love the Movie/Stills switch and the ability to have the video and photo settings totally separated, but the Z6ii has this. I really liked that there was only one shutter button that worked for photo and video, the Z6ii has a separate button for video. I have read that when in photo mode with the Z6 if you take video with the red button it does not use the video settings. You still have to switch to video mode. I am ok with this but it would be cool if you could just shoot what you want depending on the button you press.

There is a very easy way to close the shutter when you are changing lenses with this camera. While the camera is turned on, take the battery out. That will automatically close the shutter. Then you remove the lens and you will notice that the shutter is closed and you can change lenses without anything getting to the sensor. Then, after putting on the new lens, you put the battery back in and make sure the camera is turned on. You will see on the screen it says to press the shutter button. That will open the shutter again and the camera will run as normal.

@@ogonzilla Hi dear Omar, sorry for my words, yesterday I was in a hurry before going to work at night shift. The 1st time I removed the kit lens on my Z6, I was like "huh, that's the sensor, totally exposed to dust". I searched into the owner's manual to see how to close the shutter, no way. Ok... Several months later, I looked at the battery level, it was time for a charge and I forgot to switch off the camera, open that battery door and put the battery into the wall charger. Then, I needed the FTZ with my 14-24mm f/2.8 to be installed... I removed the 24-70 kit lens AND then I saw the curtain shutter closed. I didn't understand why it was closed at first... The only thing I did was the remove the battery while the camera was on... I try this with a fresh battery and it worked each time. Isn't what we called "serendipity" in English ? I posted this on a photography channel and several guys found the same on Z6 and Z7 cameras. I don't have any idea why it behaves like this as when the lens is mounted, the sensor must be exposed to the light as it's a mirrorless camera ... If you have a better explanation, please share it with us. I thing this could be integrated in a FW update, a new menu option, CLOSE SHUTTER BEFORE REMOVING LENS, or something like this will be a great addition. Love the "button... button... button" moment, you have made my day. Regards 6000 kms away from New Jersey in Belgium ! ;-)

For you, but those front Fn buttons are too valuable to give up. I use one for AF mode and the other for instant spot-metering. Many (Hudson Henry) use one for subject tracking. I also still need another one for AF-C/AF-S. If Nikon had only left the old AF buttons next to the lens! I also miss the classic pro mode/wb/qual/release dial on the top left, IMO.

Shutter blades are far more delicate than a sensor, which happens to be one of the strongest parts of a camera. So although yes you may need to clean your sensor more often, it's better to have dust and debris land on the sensor over the delicate shutter blades.

In the end I bought a Z6ii as I can see many of the things you hate (want) coming after the Z9 release via firmware. They proved thed can do it with the recent Z6 firmware. But the tiltable portrait screen - we are stuck with landscape. I have made a note of some of things you want, to see what happens. At the moment there is so much for me to learn.

I love my Z6, have sold a couple of my Fuji lenses and my Xpro2. The Z20mm and Z50mm primes are now in my bag. I am on the fence about the XF 90 now, but know that I will keep the X100F and get another version when it breaks. Can't beat the size to performance. Overall very happy I tried the Nikon.

I would add one big issue: drive mode should be part of the custom user modes. I am beginning to think I am the only one who thinks this though, as I rarely see it criticised by others in the comments. It would be great to be able to vary the size (and shape) of the AF area like Olympus and Panasonic do. Panasonic also allows the size of the box to be dynamically altered via back of camera dial which is unfortunately not an option on the Nikon but would be a great option to add to the lens mounted command ring.

The lack of autofocus confirmation with AF-C has always been the case with Nikon cameras. Personally never been a deal breaker for me as I have used Nikon forever and you get used to what you use however I dont really see why they haven't incorporated it as you aren't the first or last person to raise it. And the option to adjust the size of the focus box is a sensible one aa there standard one can be too large and the pinpoint can be too small at times.

I know I'm late to the party but just bought this camera last week and tried using it as my primary for a wedding last night (second shooter). It's very versatile & love it already but already I agree with the image delay. The DSLR thing is fantastic and I'm already in love with that style as I'm in the middle of upgrading from a DSLR so it's nice to have that small change over, but not at the same time. One thing I did notice, was when you have the shutter button half pressed with eye sensor on, it doesn't like to do this for more than maybe two or three seconds, starts to get very laggy in a big room with lots of lights enviroment. I'm guessing that's just because its how I used to shoot back in the DSLR and there's no need for it anymore, but that's my only real big issue. Oh also having only a tiltable screen, but that's just a Nikon thing I've pretty much grown used to now.

  • @carlmcneill1139
    @carlmcneill11393 жыл бұрын

Here's another thing I'd like to see changed. This camera has a focus stack mode. It also has exposure bracketing. With landscape photography you sometimes need to do both. The focus stack mode will not work when bracketing shots from what I can tell. If it does, someone let me know and tell me how. I can change the focus points manually by moving the focus point or I can manually focus the image for each set. I know most people won't be shooting like this but it would still be nice to be able to. Also, I took pictures at my daughter's play yesterday using silent shutter. I had to keep looking at the back to make sure it was taking a picture because it's silent and it doesn't give you any indication that it took one. Maybe a white frame around the outside of the EVF that lights up when you take one. It was cool using silent mode though with the electronic shutter.

Your “nitpicks” are the same as mine. I’d love to see these changes via FW and future bodies for the hardware stuff. I’ll add one more, most mirror less cameras (except for my Olympus) do not have a live feed into the EVF while using flash. When you mount a flash onto the Z6 II it essentially becomes a DSLR. I’d like to see my exposure even when using flash. I realize flash will change things, but it’s still beneficial to have it I think.

Hi, where is the option that’s mentioned at 7:50 so image review is like that of a DSLR, ie the picture is only displayed on the monitor when you pull the camera away from your face? This is how I want my Z6 to work but can only find three options in the image review menu, “On”, “Monitor only” and “Off”. This appears to be the same in the both Z6 and Z6ii manuals I’ve looked at. Thanks.

Last week I was able to do an interesting experiment. On an archeological excursion I was traveling with my beloved D7100, another participant with the Z6. I used the 16-85mm lens, the friend nikon's 24-70mm. Then we stood next to each other, set the cameras the same way and took the same photo. Later we exchanged the files and compared them. Conclusion: I will probably not part with the D7100 for a long time. Their image quality was not matched by the Z6

My only complaint about the Z6 II is the AA Filter they put on that camera, plus the original Z6 and the Z5.... I don't think it's necessary, at least comparing it to my Z7 and my Fuji XT220 (of which the Fuji is also a 24MP camera). Now perhaps they were thinking for those who were going to do video (as I understand it, moire is hard to remove in video and seeing that the Z6 series aims to be a stills camera as well as a video camera, I think probably that's why they included it, but it would be nice if either they would have left it off, or had a different version that didn't have the AA Filter, perhaps for another $100, and maybe called it the Z6A. That's my only real complaint. They've pretty much addressed my other complaints in the Z6 II (the vertical grip, dual card slots, and USB power etc). One other complaint I have but this applies to all Z cameras is their slowness to focus in low-light. With the updates, it's gotten better, but still slower than the competition.

Thanks for the reply Omar. Well I did get my Z6ii and maybe you jinxed me? :) Kidding.. After just about 4 hours I noticed just a little sensor dust on my images esp a few with a very blue sky. I had it in mind to keep the 28-70-f4 lens glued on for a while as to not have to deal with dust. I guess I was lucky...I used the built in clean sensor ultrasonic THING, and after about the 5th try so far seems my sensor is now 100% dust free. I have had a Panasonic S1 for about two years or so, plus a Fuji XT3..changed lenses a bunch of time NO dust. The Nikon...I only put the kit lens on CAREFULLY, and I had a teeny amount of dust after all of 100 shots or so..Anyways I LOVE the camera...I haven't seen skin tones this good and real, since like 1965 . My best to you...Keep up the great work and great sense of humor! :)

I have the APS-C DSLR D5500 with the excellent 1.8/35mm (=50mm equiv.), that is a very sharp combo, more so because the camera doesn't have an Anti Aliasing Filter. The Z6 II has one, and the pixel count is not higher than my camera so I am a little worried that I wouldn't gain a lot with the Z6 II - sharpness only! (Of course there are many other criterias, I am concerned about sharpness.) Could you include a little chapter on the sharpness topic / Anti Aliasing Filter? The Fujis don't have one, and with a sharp lens and in good light they could outperform the Z6 II, or not? ❓❓
