6 Struggles Only Introverts Could Relate To

Are you an introvert? In the current society, there is a belief that being extroverted is required for success. Have you ever feel like an outsider because of this “belief”? There are many others just like you, who share your feelings and go through the same struggles. To prove this and hopefully help you feel better knowing that you are not alone, here are common struggles that only introverts can relate to.

One of the most hurtful things I’ve experienced as an introvert is the feeling that no matter where I am or who I’m with, I have to prove to people that I’m worth their time. It sucks, and there’s times when I feel like no matter what I do I’ll always fail that “test” so I’d rather do things on my own because I won’t disappoint anyone or be a drain.

I have like 3 friends I’m not joking because they are the only friends that understand me. I see family the most and I spend more time alone then anything. I’m not shy though in big crowds I can talk to people I’ve learned how as I grew up but I can only take so much before I need to get away to recharge. I think the best thing an introvert can do is make everyone aware that your an introvert that way people can understand just be straight up about it. My family knows when I step away it’s not because I’m being rude I just need to recharge.

I agree with this! Growing up, I was always very shy and didn't make friends easily. I enjoyed staying home by myself, and never felt the need to insert myself into social situations with other kids my age. My sister always made fun of me for having no friends, because she was an extroverted social butterfly who became friends with every person she ever met! When I met my best friend, we immediately hit it off and have had a deep meaningful relationship for twenty years. My sister, who has thousands of friends on Facebook, has never really had any close friends or a best friend. She claims to be very popular, but I've seen a lot of her friendships come and go very quickly. They're all very shallow, and I think she spends a lot of her time feeling lonely... that is until she goes out and makes a dozen new friends on any given weekend!

I'm in my 50s. As a child I was all these things as described in your video. I was labelled even by my family as being a black sheep. My dad especially thought my introvert traits were nothing more than me rebelling, doing them purposely to get at him. Funny thing, in my 30s when I went online I was able to learn that I wasn't defective that I was an introvert. Since then I've learned a lot and have been better able to manage in the world. It's great knowing that those labels I had growing up as being defective weren't true and that there are others much like me. It has given me confidence.

Same experience here. My mother, the only extrovert out of the 4 of us, took a particular disliking to me ever since I was a very little kid because, unlike my sister, who turned out to be a "social introvert" (her mbti, INFJ, is famously known as a "social chameleon," so she came across as an extrovert; now, her energy levels are actually a lot lower than mine), and, unlike my dad (enneagram 9 ISTP), who would reluctantly go along with what my mother wanted, my introversion was a lot more obvious. According to her, I was always fussy and didn't get along with other kids in my age group, preferring to play or work by myself, or got along better with much older kids and old people. Given that a majority of people are extroverted, like her (ESTJ), especially children, she's never seen a kid like me so thought there was something "abnormal" or "slow" about me, and scheduled play-dates to force me to socializing with other children, which only proved counter-productive (being an enneagram cp6). I guess from her point of view, my introversion caused her significant embarrassment because I probably came across as "rude" to the other parents, so spent my entire childhood trying to force me to change. But kids don't appreciate being forced to change (and people CAN'T change, anyway. Speaking from a lifetime of experiences trying to re-invent myself, as well as the fact that my mbti type/enneagram remains consistent). I've never fit in with other people, no matter how much I'd tried, even when I was actually quite social in my late-teens/early-20s, nothing could change the fact that I was just a loner by nature; even in my family, I've always felt like a black sheep. That "wall separating" me from the rest of humanity part is 100% relatable. Until I took mbti tests (albeit out of curiosity), I've never known why, and was always thought of by others that there was something "wrong" or "abnormal" about me, but, turns out, I'm just an introvert and independent-minded (INTP).

@@ryans413 - I think of it this way: As introverts we don't need to feed off of others in order to feel good. For us it's the opposite. We have the power to simply feel good on our own. Almost as if we are more complete in a certain way. We are also more sensitive to the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine compared to extroverts. This chemical makes us feel good when we turn inward. We also store information in different parts of our brain than extroverts, favoring the parasympathetic side of our nervous system which is associated with relaxation and focus. So we're typically going to enjoy going deeper subjects than most extroverts. Of course extroverts can enjoy those deeper subjects too, usually less commonly though.

Couple that with a very extroverted and nosy co-worker who liked to tattle to the boss if she felt someone in the department wasn't doing their job. I was her main target and this got me pulled into my boss's office to see what was going on. That lady hold my chin and said,"why r u so shy? Look at me." Like bitch then don't barge into my room and come to talk to me.I would have locked my room. Omg. 😭😭 my mom didn't help me.

Some of the hardest moments as an introvert to me, was my last school trip. Since I had to share a room with at least two people and we were not allowed to walk around ourselves so we wouldn't get lost, during the entire four days, I had about one hour for myself. I always felt exhausted after every conversation and wanted to have at least five minutes without all these people. Everyone constantly asking why I was so quiet, obviously didn't help. The worst part was that most of the activities we did, were to get to know our classmates and the local people better, so we always had to do stuff in groups and had to always interact with someone. Until these few days I didn't realize how hard it was to be around people for a long time.

I relate to you... I recently was on a class trip too and I went to bed with a headache every evening because everyone was so loud and we had no time for ourselves... the teachers and a few other classmates/exchange students prepared a little good bye party at the end and I went back to my room after 15min because I just couldn't take the loud noise and all those people telling me to "have FUN" and stop being so quiet and stuff... even the teachers told me the day afterwards that it was rude from me to go away so early. Like, this is not MY definition of fun, it's stressful and physically really exhausting for me and after one week, all I needed was 1 freaking hour to myself! Society is really not made for people like us.

Imo my country's filled with extroverted people. So I never really heard "I know how you feel" from others. It's always "Come on, get out of your comfort zone. You can't keep going like this." Maybe they got good intentions, but unnecessary life advice just ticks me off. Let me be myself and figure stuff out on my own

"Being alone for a while is dangerous. It's addicting. Once you see how peaceful it is, you don't want to deal with people anymore." Can anyone else relate? I've been isolating myself for ten months already, and I think this is the real downside as an introvert. I have been worrying about how to interact with people once everything is back to normal.

A key point in this will be to slowly ease ourselves back into another pace. And on the good side even extroverts do tune down a bit and don't return to noisy and fast pace in an instant. I see many actually shocked over how easy it is for everything to slow down and lose pace. People not getting half of the things down they usually rush through in a day. Some gain a better understanding of thing working different for people who choose to not go along with the busy rush in life.

One part of being introvert is people think you are untalented because you don't have uproot confidence like extroverts who love to express what they got. Practice helps with that. And conscious breathing and thinking of something nice and calming. But what helps best is to not judge yourself as your voice shakes. A shaking voice makes you no lesser person. If you can manage to embrace your "downsides" you might find they disappear or stop to matter. If it's something that can't be helped at the moment then why not take it with a grain of salt instead. 💚 Actually, let me tell you a secret. People who come to adore your shaky self are quite likely long-lasting good relationship material 😉 It's like a filter against shallow people!

The part about not wanting to talk about personal things because “it’s none of their business” I’ve always felt rude about that. I didn’t realize it’s a normal thing for introverts. It’s not at all that I have anything to hide or anything like that I just don’t see it to be important that you know these things about me. I’d much rather talk about an interest we have in common. I see talking as a tool not so much as a thing you do for fun. I’ll talk business without any issues but what I did on the weekend is irrelevant. 😂
