Other than parrying or covering, now let's go through some basic head movement or slipping. Okay? I have Chad here again. He's going to throw the double jab at me, which is a basic combination with the hands. And again, instead of throwing the, or parrying, alright, I want to slip the jab either outside or I can slip the jab inside. Okay? When I slip, again, I want to make sure I'm in a good base. I don't want to move my feet as I'm moving my head. So Chad throws a jab, I'll slip to the outside but I want to make sure I slip in on a 45. I don't want to slip out because it'll leave me off balance. So I want to slip in so that I'm in range to maybe counter, you know, for a boxing technique or maybe I can follow up with some knees, whatever that might be. If I slip to the inside, same concept. I want to make sure my head is in on a 45. I don't want to slip my head away because it will leave me off balance. Okay? So he'll throw the jab again, I'll slip to the inside. Okay? Make sure you keep the hands up as you slip. Don't get fancy and leave your hands down. He throws a jab, I'm going to keep the hands up so maybe I can counter. Okay?
So now I'll throw the double jab, or I'll throw the jabs at Chad. He'll demo an MMA transition for slipping. He'll slip to the outside and he'll shoot in for that double leg. Okay? Maybe he'll slip to the inside and he'll come in for that clinch. Okay? So basic head movement or slipping for basic punches. Alright, so a basic counter, a Muay Thai counter, off of slipping with a jab, what I can do is use that left leg either to the head or to the body. So I'm going to slip my head out, get that left leg going to the body, obviously the head if he drops that right hand. Okay? So again, as I slip, I switch my feet and then I fire that left leg. Okay? If I throw the jab at Chad he'll come in for that double leg take down and he'll lift, okay? So there's two transitions, Muay Thai or MMA, for your jab.

    So would you say that it was his predictability that was his downfall or would you say that slipping inside is simply too risky? I always thought that it was a matter of trade-off.

    That is the truth...the only exception is the Peek-A-Boo style in which you always slant to the inside and deep low..that actually kills any incoming straight or hooks.

    The basics are there for one to practice. When your sparing or in a competition there is always a risk of getting hit by your opponent. Fighting is the hardest sport to learn so your grandma must be a really good fighter.

    @CrowdPleeza while slipping to the outside is safer, slipping to the inside gives other offensive options. Also if your opponent figures out that you always slip to one side, he can easily follow up with kicks there. Consider slipping inside if you're not afraid to brawl with someone, I guess!

  • @CrowdPleeza
    @CrowdPleeza11 жыл бұрын

    I've seen other slipping videos where they pointed out that you should avoid slipping to the inside because you'll have your opponent's other fist waiting on you. Instead focus on slipping to the outside of punches.

    Off a jab, you can slip to the inside if you immediately follow it up with a counter. If you slip to the inside without following it up you get nailed. And that is only with the jab. If you try slipping inside of a cross they will just turn their body a bit and nail you with the right. So, the video is correct, but you would always need to throw a counter and not just slip.

  • 9 жыл бұрын

    You'll see it coming and if you react fast enough (which you should), then you duck and maybe try to follow in with an uppercut while your opponent is open, go for a takedown. Either would work.

    You could bob and weave out and take advantage of whatever angle you get. Additionally if you want to catch them on their error (swinging wide) you can close the distance with a block and throw an uppercut or just go straight down the middle with a 1-2. Straights are the fastest punches from long range so if you time them while they throw wide you can hit them first. Just make sure to keep your chin tucked while doing it.

    assuming you mean hay makers, for the early minutes get familiar how he telegraphs those punches and just keep out of distance for the mean time. familiarize yourself with his rhythm. then when you see it coming, you decide. if you know you can get to him fast enough with shorter punches, do that. or duck, or bob or weave. another option is to eat it with your guard BUT make sure you roll with the punch and move closer so that it's not the fist your eating, but his forearm. then when you receive the impact and counter with either the blocking arm or the opposite arm or whatever you please

    wut? i think you'd have to be too close (mid range) to find the jab too fast. and even then, jabbing isn't the best set up when take downs, knees, kicks and other option are available in that range. unless you compete pure boxing whre it's a different game altogether.

    What is the point of this comment? im simply saying, throwing a jab is faster than slipping from a jab.

    You know what? If you were a few inches back, you wouldn't have to slip at all. He couldn't reach you. LOL

    Slipping is done to usually get in range for powerful counters like uppercuts, hooks and also MMA transitions. This is for more aggression while staying back is about passiveness and kind of defensive.

    try moving your head more before your opponent throws his punch , and try perrying his hands before he throws his punches this will reduce his shot selection and make the punches more predictable for you, also make sure you got him reacting to faints/punches and are still using footwork, best tip I can give you is "Dont wait for your opponent to throw a punch to react"
