6 Signs of Emotional Hunger

Are you in a relationship? Do you have a crush on someone right now? Are you really in love? Or are you just emotionally hungry? Emotional hunger can be caused by deprivation in childhood. Those who suffer from emotional hunger usually look to rely on something or someone else to fill a void or emptiness in themselves. If you started your relationship in desperation with only attention and affection in mind, it’s best to evaluate if that desire is being mistaken as true love. So, how do you know if you are confusing emotional hunger for love? Well, here are six signs you are emotionally hungry.

This just made me realize that Venti is one of the most mentally stable characters edit: with the advent of all the new characters and catching up to the lore, i would like to change my opinion on that and say that Kazuha is much mentally stable than the others, and that's coz of the way he deals with it. he has a stoic personality and way of looking at life, and i personally vibe with it. yes i know that Amber and Barbara, and a lot of other characters are probably much more mentally in-tune, but im looking at this in terms of what they've all went through. and i doubt amber and barbara have gone through much of anything. idk about sumeru characters tho, i could be wrong

My therapist said that emotional hunger (which i suffer from) may not only be because of the absence of love from your parents, but, surprisingly or not, due to the abundance of it. Which is true, my parents loved me a lot as a child and always protected me a lot, which of course I’m grateful for! However, part of my brain registered that as “if i’m not being loved 24/7 it makes me feel sad and lonely” recently I’ve learned to respect my own boundaries and others’ as well.

Being someone who thought they conquered trauma, even now, I still have this void in me, it’s just there… I’m going to college, and seeing this video made me cry. I’m lost. Gone to a therapist, they told me I didn’t need therapy. I’m just… an emotional parasite? Is that a way of thinking about it? That’s how I’m thinking about it. I’m sucking all the emotions out of others in order to sustain myself, but as a result, I drain them. I turn to video games, but is it enough? Honestly, video games were my escape, but now I’m just lost. I’m crying in bed… lost as can be.

Your comment is literally me. I felt and done the same things you have, and I don’t know how to fix it. My therapist also told me that I was fine and now it just seems like feeling the way I feel is normal. This emptiness and constant need for affection has driven me down what many may consider a spiraling dark hole. People can just say “oh just look at the bright side of things” but that isn’t really going to stop me from feeling the drive to seek the validation of others. I try to find alternatives by playing games, running, or focusing on my college courses, but even then the thought of wanting constant attention never goes away. I don’t know how to fix it and I feel lost and that the world holds no meaning unless I can establish those connections with others.

You both should search for another therapist. This is definitely not normal and you need help and support from a professional therapist. Please search for one who will support you. Don't give up. I don't know how old you are. But when I was 17, they told me the same. Later I found out that they don't like to give people under the age of 18 a diagnostic. I wish i didn't gave up then. But I thought they are right and I'm just a bad person. Until I found a therapist, some terrible years later. So please don't give up and search for help. If you don't feel good or healthy, you have the right to go to a therapist. I'm so sorry your therapist was so incompetent. But there are some good ones out there. Just please don't give up. I know how it feels.

I'm not sure if I'm emotionally hungry, but the last line reminded me of something else. My mum always shared all of her problem with me (maybe bc I don't talk much; prefer to listen), even the very personal stuff. I get that parents too have problems and hiding them from kids isnt particarully good, but telling a 14yo about your parenting problems that involve your siblings whom you love very much leaves very mixed feelings. She always talked so openly about her poor situation with money, so I felt guilty bc I was one of the things she had to spend money on. I'll have to make sure that I'm not that type of person in any relation bc it's really draining for the other person

  • @Harkz0r

    @Harkz0r

    2 жыл бұрын

I have mixed feelings about that kind of situation, honestly. Both of my parents shielded me from a lot of stuff until they divorced. I chose to stay with my mother for two reasons: because I wanted to remain in my family home to minimise the upheaval (I was quite sheltered) but also because I feel like she needed me more than he did, even though if I have to be perfectly honest, I was more attached to him. I'll never forget the times where I had to play counselor while she was drunk, and it was a dice roll whether she would even remember what I said the next morning or whether she would become irrationally ill-tempered or even violent and a danger to herself. I always told her that I would want for my parents to feel as open with me as I did with them, because I loved her and cared about her, but looking back I can't say that it didn't cause me any harm, either. That kind of thing is insidious, like a slow poison; I thought I was invulnerable at the time, but in the end I suppose that's just not how humans are. I don't regret any of my decisions (except for one that I made much later in life) but I still wish things had turned out a little differently, perhaps... if nothing else, at least you have an insight on how it feels to be in that position and what to avoid.

I didn't know exactly what it was until I watched this, but I feel this. I kinda realised that I was being incredibly needy and burning myself out emotionally trying to please others. I feel that I have gotten better at processing my emotions in a healthy direction with my brother and friends helping me get my emotional needs met.

Moreover, I believe that what was shown in the trailer is his friend (or his friend's vision) saving him. Also, I'd ask everyone who keeps comparing Genshin to Honkai to stop.

I'm starting to understand my old wounds a lot better now than I ever did in earlier stages of my life, and this video honestly hit close to home a little... I know I'm not the only one who's been adopted and brought to America for a better life, and yet, living in the states for most of my life has made me feel different things at different points in time. I just didn't understand half of the things I was carrying with me at the time, whether it was abandonment issues that are related to me being adopted, or feeling like a wallflower in certain social situations back in high school l and struggling to speak up for myself. I definitely don't blame my parents now for how I've turned out, but if anything, I realize that my views in life and how I navigate it doesn't make having a relationship with them easy sometimes.

I didn't think it could be called "Emotionally hungry" But kinda accurate. Last year I was getting crushes left and right. Honestly, I didn't really like any of them, I was just looking for something to get me going for the day. I wanted to be happy thinking about someone to get me up in the morning and out the door. I don't think that was good though. I haven't had a real crush in ages. Before I was just calling it "being a hopeless romantic". Which was also a bit accurate for what I was going through. But everyone goes through it at one point or another, especially now, since people are too scared to try and shoot their shot.

Genshin is really close to my heart and I always go long distances to put my character into pretty spots so that when I log in next, I can relax in peace for a few minutes while I look at, for example, the liyue mountains. Up in the sky, the adeptus stone at the highest point where you could sit above the clouds is my favourite place. Gentle music and a beautiful day to night cycle

Ive learned so much about me lately and things that I didnt know with your videos and through the school of life both IRL and the youtube channel hahahaha. Now the interesting part after one year the friend that stopped talking to me is now trying to make up and talk again, Im trying to maintain some distance while staying friendly, even though I feel like nothing will be the same anymore but I dont hold any bad feelings against him, I actually feel somewhat liberated from my overthinking and all that stuff that happened back then. The root of this stuff is always in childhood emotional trauma (like 0:24) so to heal this stuff completely you would need to address that. An easier but lighter solution is to learn how to work with your emotions better, to give them the love, understanding and validation they need. That will make it much easier to deal with them and your emotional hunger. (I teach about this stuff on my channel if you need resources for how to do this)

Thank you for another lovely, insightful video. I think a video going into more details about "emotionally draining" another vs "nurturing" them would be good. Maybe there's already a video on your channel about exactly this topic, and I need to go searching for it. If so, it might be good to refer to it. (I've not found KZread search or searching generally to be very helpful for some specific KZread videos, especially when there are already a lot of content in the given channel and I can't find the ~exact~ phrase required.) As an example to examine, I have no doubt that to one person I may be "emotionally draining". Yet, to another person, I may not be "emotionally draining", because they "get" me or have similar life experiences (or perhaps a similar lack of presumptions about how others "should" be). Some of these things may just be a sign of mismatches in a relationship, differing expectations, etc.

I was lost for a long time I used to just smoke and drink to not feel anything or even think about the past. Now looking back at my childhood I realize I was deprived of the love and attention we all need to be stable and well “normal” and when I finally got that form of attention I gave it my all, I was afraid of being alone again so I did everything to please her not knowing I was hurting myself at the same time just for us not to last. It’s funny how life works. Somedays your happy, somedays your sad, but for me it’s like I can’t feel anything anymore.

I think that for my last relationship, I wasn’t aware of how bad my emotional hunger had gotten over the years and it really was a slow burn to a very sad end to the relationship. I was constantly thinking I wasn’t sufficient enough for my partner who was simultaneously projecting a lot of insecurities onto me and kinda stress-testing my ability to give in the relationship. I eventually cut ties with all of my friends because I thought that focusing on the relationship and “fixing” myself would make her happy. I couldn’t see past my own mental and emotional roadblocks and it really harmed the both of us in the end. We don’t really speak anymore, but I hope she’s alright. She and I both deserve better and I just hope we end up growing and finding the peace in ourselves we wanted.

I am emotionally hungry. I left a relationship that spoiled me with attention and my last relationship after that didn't give me enough attention. It hurt me and her but I needed to let go before it would worsen as time goes on.

I can relate to some of this too, I think it's just how much its affecting your behaviour mostly; if you have enough self control or tend to bottle things (like suffering in silence) up it might not drain people around you, and for those who act upon it and frequently involve others it might drain people around them more. Ofc there's a lot of nuance depending on each person's situation, like having a very supportive friend compared to people who aren't as supportive and rather distance themselves when things aren't roses and sunshine

I see almost all of these in myself. I've been dealing with ptsd for a large part of my life and it's just gotten worse by the manifestation of extreme depression (rather the realization it was always there), and worsening anxiety. A big catalyst for all of this was someone I loved more than anything whose trauma I internalized and their traumas ended up traumatizing me further. However I never knew emotional hunger existed until this video and I see myself in all but one of these symptoms as I prefer to isolate than be super social however I do rely on a tight knit group for companionship. I appreciate the video and anyone who bothered to read such a long randrandom stupid rant from a stranger, I really don't have anyone to talk to so i end up spilling my guts to anywhere I can without thinking.

You can train/condition yourself out of these behaviors and habits. Your brain associates things together. What fires together wires together. Associate healthy behavior and thoughts to your feelings. Train yourself out of it.

@@e99783 I think that's a gross oversimplification of how mental health issues work. To some degree you can "train" yourself to think or feel differently and reduce your mental health issues and neurotic habits, but you can only go so far with that as it is just a surface solution, and these issues are likely to come up again later if that is the only solution you use. All mental health issues and neurotic behaviours are there for a very good reason, whether you understand why or not, so you're not wrong for having them and you don't need to be trained or corrected out of them. These things stem from trauma and from being hurt in the past, and you need to address and work through this stuff and as you do the mental health issues will naturally dissipate as they will no longer being needed. Not trying to disrespect, I just find that people commonly underestimate the depth and the real causes of emotional issues, and so I want to mention that trying to train yourself out of them is just a surface solution and it won't really do much other than reduce your symptoms a bit, but the wound still exists deep down.

I've recently gotten out of a relationship. One that has left me emotionally drained as it felt like I was the only one trying to do my best in it, but in the end, it left me feeling so empty. All these points hit me perfectly. I have a new group of friends, often wanting to meet more people, I'm overly joyous with them, and I am having an interest in someone, but even we both agreed not to do anything serious until we're both on stable minds. Thankfully, I have been working on making myself a better person, and keeping myself happy instead of relying on others. Working out is slowly getting added into my routine, so I can build some self-confidence as well, but not a day goes by where I feel so lonely and feel like I need someone by me to hug. I'm working on kicking that habit, but it is *very* difficult. I've got too much on my time to get help of sorts, so I'm doing what I can myself to at least lift some of my burden. Even before the relationship amplified my need for affection, I've sort of always been this kind of person. Someone that loves to be around others and gain enjoyment out of it.

I recently realized that, for years upon years, I've been subconsciously (and mildly) manipulating people for the love I can't seem to give myself, but I don't know why I can't love myself. And this "emotional hunger" never stopped me from loving others, it just randomly drained them at times. I still do it sometimes, though I try really hard not to.
