6 Reasons I Wear The Same Thing Every Day

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The capsule wardrobe movement is not widely practiced. But, elevated in the social consciousness by some high-profile personalities, more and more people are applying minimalist principles to their fashion.

Not only do I wear the same thing everyday, but I only wear black. As a female, I do not have to be concerned with my makeup, handbag, jewelry or shoes ever clashing. It also cuts clothes shopping time down to a fraction. I only have to look at one style and one color. I had been wanting to do this for years and finally just went for it. I started purchasing multiples of the exact same item, while purging my closet. It is one of the best decisions that I followed through on.

my boyfriend only wears black, when we travel, I follow suite with black and white, maybe a splash of red. For me it's different, I wake up and maybe want to wear pink. Maybe it's just females. I wish I could do this but I never had any clothes as a child and always hand me downs so I have too many although I do shop at thrift stores.

I was wearing only black for 20 years and its true that people are recognizing you easily with this same look. And now I shifted to white and blue. My wardrobe is still full of black. Black looks beautiful and elegant, but some skin types are very pale in black without makeup -me, other skin types look radiant in black. I feel lighter and better in white, but I don’t want to wear everyday the same thing anymore. Same style yes 😉

Having been in the military I was used to wearing a uniform daily. After I retired I realized what a hassle it is to have to choose something to wear daily. Glad you shared this idea. It's not new, but with all the ads pushing consumerism it's not in the forefront of our culture. Thank you!

My husband is a college professor. He wears (and has worn) a black t-shirt and Levi's every class for much of his career (he just received his 25 year recognition). Everything you mention here is true, especially the ease of dressing every day. And - the other day I was out grocery shopping and happened to be wearing jeans and a black shirt (I like it, too) and one of his many ex-students asked if it was a family uniform. It just might be! LOL

It used to be like that for me. Two straight-legged light-fabric jeans of each basic colors and half a dozen of the same top in different colors. No swear! Everything matched. Blussful morning routine until a psycho who has the boss’es favor thought that we would all look better in uniform. Niw, I’m stuck with thisset if loose pants and a XxxL top that accomodates my chest and - more or less - my hips, but reaches down to my mid-thighs, making the stupid pants virtually useless - if I were younger. Yes and this is why I don't understand why so many people have loads of clothes. We are all too easily led by changing fashion as we care too much about what people think and we become easily dissatisfied with what we have so keep buying more. We wear the same things as it's just comfortable for us and nobody really has the time to carefully select different items every single day, life is too short for that!

@Monique Lehnhardt part of the reason for choosing dark, muted colors is that people would notice less if you wear it over and over again. That sleek, black shirt? You don't look at it too closely. Have you seen it on him before? Maybe, but... it doesn't register. Now think of a garment in a bright color with strong pattern and/or fussy details. You would surely notice it and remember that you have already seen it three times this week. 😉 (does it matter? Ahhh... 😁) You could check in with Jennifer from _The Daily Connoisseur_. She does a 10 item wardrobe; uses colors and looks chic (and is a mom of four). I think he did videos together with her. 😊

I am a massage therapist and bought FITTED (key word), black scrubs 5 pair and wore them everyday...but here's the cool thing: they looked so nice because they were fitted, people often mistook me for being dressed up. That always gave me the giggles. I didn't even have to wear a bra or anything...was SO COMFY all day long. Black nurse's shoes, black socks...it actually looked really sleek. Then I could add a dash of color by which coat or purse I decided to use. Turns out, black scrubs look great for running errands, going out to eat for dinner if you wear a nice sweater over the top. Best purchase I ever made. Wore them everyday for 10 years except on date night with my husband. Now I am experimenting with a capsule wardrobe to add a bit more color while taking a break from massage. Great video. P.S... My mother is a shopaholic OCD type lady who values appearance over all else and she shocked me when she said I looked great everytime she saw me! Scrubs don't wrinkle, so she thought I looked ironed, with "slacks/dress pants" and a nice lengthened appearance because of the black all one color slimming outfit. She had not even realized I was wearing scrubs! Lol!

I have a huge walk in closet for me, one for my husband, and one for all of my kids.. We practically wear the same 5-7 outfits and most of the rest are untouched. My only qualm with dumping the rest is the amount of money spent, and the fear that our walk ins will look naked and be pointless. Also, the outfits we always wear live in the laundry room. We only ever go into our walk in closets when there is an event or someone wants a house tour.

I’ve really simplified my wardrobe. I wear white capris and a T-shirt all summer long. I don’t imagine most women would be happy with this but I am and people always comment on my style. They often ask how do you keep those capris so clean? I have 6 pair all ready to go. I have several anoraks and wind breakers and 4 stylish sun hats. I’m all set till fall! The winter in the Northeast is cold and I have more clothes for the cold but even then it’s well fitting jeans an turtle neck cotton pull overs. When I find good quality shirts that I like I buy them in several colors. Done!! I have had the same experience as you in that people always compliment me on my put together appearance. I love sterling silver jewelry and I have a good amount of attractive earrings and bracelets and one favorite hand crafted pendant and everyday I get asked and complimented about that piece.

Easy to replace worn out, faded, stained. And costs way less. Get inexpensive ones while they are in rapid growth. Get better brands later when they grow slower.

While wearing the same thing every day might not appeal to everyone, I do think that having only a few choices can go a long way to maintaining the minimalist mind frame. The same clothes are not appropriate for the workplace, camping, a wedding, dinner at a high-end restaurant, sleeping, working on the car, etc. But yes, we can cut down to probably 1/10th of what we wear now. I keep giving stuff to charities that keep calling me. And I am throwing out stuff that isn't good for much any more. This principle works in the kitchen, too. You should do one on that.

As for me, I have 3-4 outfits I wear around the house (I work from home) and then on Sunday (for Church), I like to enjoy wearing something “special”. I know there are a lot of people with whom this will resonate, but it’s probably not for everyone. Also I don’t even need to have that much money coming in to maintain a good life! Part of the solution is simply spending less on excess stuff & not travelling far away ... and realizing how beautiful my city and its surrounding region is. Oh YES! I totally agree!! Here on the Oregon coast flannel shirts work for me year round ~ layer under & over in the cold weather, and in summer just a tee shirt under so I can take off the flannel if it gets warm. I love not having to make a decision.

What I did is made a list of the number of tshirts, pants, etc that I felt was acceptable for me. I did this while away from my closet. Then took a look at what I had in my closet and thought, why do I have all this!? And I only kept the amount on my list.

I don’t wear the same thing everyday, But I do wear the same thing every week, meaning I have a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. outfits. I feel this is the best balance.

It's branding! Plus you freak people out on the odd day you wear something different

Yo Mama Or the opposite. I never wear makeup, so the odd time I wear it for a special occasion, people are so impressed at how “dressed up” I am.
