One year ago I would have said Grigalashvili for sure, but man this weight class is REAL : Lee as emerged since then, Albayrak won the European championships against Grigalashvili in the final, Casse won the Paris GS, Nagase and Mollaei are still around. This is going to be a tough one to predict + the usual surprises at the Olympics (Djalo at home, Ressel, a Russian etc.)

I think it is interesting when you talk about the rules back in the days. A lot of people love to just say that the rules now are so bad and back in the days they where much better. But many people have not seen matches from like 10-20 years ago. I think a lot of rules have become better with gripping etc and has made a more attractive judo. Ofcourse the rules are not perfect today and it is weird when thay have banned certain techniques .Also people talk about how it was harder to get ippon before and that the standard for ippon has gone down the drain. But I think it is much clearer what is an ippon today then before. Before they just gave ippon for a high elevation or something. Look at Nomuras olympic finals (available on olympics judo channel) He gets ippon for throws that are no where nere ippon today. Sorry for going on a rant but I think people just like to hate and dont know how it looks before. Thanks for a great video as usual.

I have a VHS of the 2000's olympics that I bought in 2001 I guess. Takimoto was fantastic in every match. He demolished the -81kg.

Kim Jae Bum is probably the greatest 81kg judoka to ever compete. Most decorated in Worlds and Olympics, plus has the most medals in IJF tournaments. Was an absolute menace from 2008 to 2012. Plus he was also the best gripfighter I've ever seen during his prime imo.

Takemoto trains with us at the kodokan. He doesn’t teach classes but does randori if anyone asks him. His fights are still beautiful.

What is the spirit of the Olympic Games? Make big money? Or create a global sharing event? Obviously, the answer is clear. Maybe I'm not good, but I couldn't watch the Judo matches (or rewatch them) on their site during the last Olympics. Where is the sharing? And marvelous high quality footage is preciously keeping far from eyes in their safes, and on KZread you can only find poor quality pictures from those great fights from the past...

The Olympics are making the same mistake that Major League Baseball made with their draconian restriction of sharing footage. In this day and age of social media, the more people that gain access to your event, the more it will grow. Just out of curiosity, what was the match that Nagase got hansokumake when he didn’t grab the leg but it looked like he did?

It's not only a mistake, it's just against the spirit of the Olympics. One could think they just try to make big cash (and in this case, it may be a mistake as you say).

Apparently there is a lot of scepticism about the real (biological) age of athletes from several countries, such as Georgia. Guess where Iliadis was born before being adopted in Greece (another step where age could be mixed up)...
