6 Motorcycle Insurance Issues You MUST FIX ASAP for Dual Sport, ADV, & Plated Dirt Bikes!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

What will your motorcycle insurance cover if your bike gets totaled in a wreck? The information in this video could LITERALLY mean the difference between getting $100 after your deductible and losing your motorcycle, to getting thousands of dollars toward a new bike, covering your motorcycle, your mods, AND all your accessories, and even keeping your motorcycle and all the parts on it after the claim is settled. Motorcycle insurance isn't a fun topic, but man it is IMPORTANT!
My beloved dual sport motorcycle was recently totaled in a side by side crash, and I have learned a TON about motorcycle insurance through my claim. I did some things right, but some things wrong. Learn from my mistakes and successes so if you ever have to make a motorcycle insurance claim, you'll be covered. Insurance... we have to pay it to be legal, so we might as well make it do something if we need it!
I'm lucky to ride dual sport motorcycles and host rallies FULL TIME! Want to know what budget-friendly parts, riding gear, and camera gear has proven reliability and worked well for me? Excellent points on the property side of claims. As an insurance adjuster, and a 2 time near fatal motorcycle accident survivor, I could honestly teach a semester long course on this stuff. This biggest coverage I would recommend everyone’s attention on, is Uninsured/ underinsured motorist coverage. After reading this, call your insurance and raise this coverage to maximum, usually around $250k, or more. It doesn’t cost that much more than what you already pay. If you spend any time in a hospital, the bills add up real quick, like bankruptcy quick. Most car drivers only carry state minimum coverage. Depending on what state that is, it could be as little as $25K. It costs $25K just to check into the hospital! Your health insurance will initially pick up the bill. Then they’re going to subrogate against you for the bills, or at least a percentage that your responsible for. Everyone thinks the other driver’s insurance is gonna pay all their bills, that’s unfortunately not how it works. It’s you that’s responsible for your bills. Their liability ends with their amount of coverage. If you have a family and ride, you already should have life insurance as well, in case your disabled or worse.

This is good info Tyler. This was something I was thinking of putting together also. Back when I was ordering the timbersled snowbike kit, I talked with State Farm for quite some time to go over whether it would be covered if something should happen. They told me that if it's attached to the bike, it is covered under my policy. I might do a video on how I keep track of my receipts and other info when it comes to mods. It is a good habit when the unexpected happens. And finally, always video everything that is on your bike. Makes it hard for them to argue.

The side by side owner, (the rental company,) has to have an insurance policy. Your insurance company made a profit no matter what they paid for your loss. That's not a bad thing. It keeps your premiums lower. You were absolutely right to ask for a recalculation. Any reputable insurance company will have no problem with that. I carry a $50 deductible and half million dollar medical and bodily injury coverage; a lesson I learned the hard way when I ended up spending a year learning how to walk again. My premium is a little bit higher, but not excessively so. This is a good video and well needed info for your viewers.

Different country, different strokes, but I have my adventure bike covered with a motorcycle specific insurance provider. But last year when buying my new bike I asked my general insurance company for a quote. It was considerably more expensive than the bike specific cover. However the general insurer commented on my motorcycle gear and specifically the Techair jacket. They informed me that my gear was covered on my contents policy and that would include having the gas cylinders replaced after airbag deployment. Therefore I didn't need to add the cost of gear to my bike insurance. It is worth asking the question of your insurer or agent the specifics of what is covered.

Here is what you want to do. The day you start your season or trip do the following. You should increase the accessory coverage to the full value of ALL your accessories, not leave it at the 3000 minimum. Also add CARRIED CONTENTS to cover other stuff. The medical coverage is really expensive and has a low limit so I would instead look at a temporary travel medical insurance. This will also cover more than just injuries on the bike. Also have collision and make sure it covers collision with a tree, "the roadway" etc. Then at the end of your season or trip drop the coverage down to comprehensive only to cover theft, etc.

Had same insurance from TX to LA then had to switch when I moved to GA then switched again when moved to FL and again switched (actually twice ) in NV. (Btw, back in 2003 progressive quote me $1200 per month for my zzr 1200...I laughed at them and cancelled my car insurance with them too) Again you must shop around vs where you live.
