When I lost my job and my husband was retired we decided to leave Ontario and moved to Fredericton NB. and we love it. Found a home on 4 acres for 30% of the cost of the house we sold in Ontario and now have a very affordable retirement.

We're fed up with the growth and noise of Calgary and are looking for a quieter life and Fredericton is really speaking to us to buy our first home. We are going to come visit next spring to suss it out. If you've got any advice in the meantime about daily living, prices, healthcare etc, that would be much appreciated!

Great video, I agree totally about Windsor, it’s always been a hidden gem. There’s so much to do in the area and with Detroit across, five minutes away, you’re basically living in a large metropolitan area like Toronto without having to deal with the day-to-day hassle , you have pro sports, first rate cultural entertainment, world-class museums and symphony shopping and many other things to do literally five minutes away, The weather also is very temperate being so far south for Canada, actually the most southern point.Windsor itself is a nice town that offers a great restaurant scene and lovely parks and plenty of shopping also. Nice people too by the way, and some really interesting housing areas, the riverfront is absolutely beautiful. Check it out

I've lived in Windsor my whole life. I've given up on it. I'm looking to transfer out as soon as I can. I used to love it, but it's full of selfish, greedy, miserable people. Worth drivers, too many investors ruining the housing market. A mayor and council who don't care. It's really too bad. Potential.....yes. A healthy, vibrant future...... absolutely not.

I agree. My family moved from London to Windsor in 2019. I live in a suburb of Detroit now. Hope to retire in Windsor soon to join my extended family. Love the waterfront, parks and Canadian way of life with still being close to Detroit for sports, shopping and shows.

Windsor is a hole! It is dying at a uncontrolled rate! It is FULL of meth heads and massive amounts of other drugs! The bike gang’s literally own areas of windsor. The other areas are full of elderly dying people who have never kept up their houses! The costs of windsor are skyrocketing because of the people investing in houses and condominiums to rent at unreal prices!

I moved to kitchener from Vancouver BC in 2017 then in late 2021 I moved from kitchener with my 2 year old to Windsor Ontario. Windsor has been a blessing, I can afford to live here with working just 1 job as a single mom. The people of Windsor are kind, very friendly and welcoming, I'm glad I made the decision to move to Windsor Ontario. Before I moved to Windsor, I had to chose between Calgary, Moncton new Brunswick and Windsor Ontario. The other 2 places are super cold and I was not really done with Ontario so I chose Windsor.

Please do your homework. Rent has skyrocketed in Windsor since 2017. The figures in this video are very low. Units in my building (which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy) are $1800 for a 1BR, and $2200 for a 2BR. 2BR houses are renting for $2400-2800/month. Unemployment is very high and wages are low. If you're happy working in fast food or retail, there are lots of jobs, but those won't cover rent. House prices have nearly tripled since 2017.

I came across ur channel while applying for my citizenship application 1 week ago. I immigrated here 3 years ago under FSW and i live with my husband in windsor, ON. I chose windsor for its affordability, weather, proximity to Detroit. I just want to say that u ladies provide a VERY realistic content in ur videos! My 2 bedroom rental is 1300$ and u can even find cheaper than that. Windsor is a hidden gem. Absolutely no traffic, u can drive around the city in 20 mins stress free. If u miss the hussle and bussle u can cross to Detroit and if u like a more relaxing atmosphere u can drive the opposite way (to the county). Keep on the great content. Sending love ❤️

@@lilik5694 the way i look at it is that: wage for every occupation is the same across ontario. When coming to Canada u might need to wait a bit until u get a job in ur field, so u might end up landing on a job with minimum wage 1st until u start getting the "canadian experience ". I started a 17$/hr customer service job and i was able to afford rent + living expenses which can not be achievable in places like Toronto with that kind of pay. Just like the ladies said : what's the point of having a higher paying job if u will spend most of it on rent.

Secondly, Trois rivière will be hard to live in if you don’t speak French, even if you don’t have to work out of your home you need to speak the language. Thunder Bay is fine but it is very remote from many places- it is 18 hours from Toronto by driving.

The current situation of having to apply for a SIN post landing understandably leads newcomers to land where they have the highest probability of getting a job. The info they ask for at service Canada is the same info IRCC already has for each applicant, so I don't imagine it would be too hard to just include the SIN. It could.be a great opportunity for smaller cities to attract talent and fill some of their most acute labor shortages

An honorable mention could be my home town of London Ontario, mostly known for Western University and nick named "Forest City". Every direction within a 2hr drive or less from London offers a unique destination such as amazing beaches (Port Stanly south, Grand Bend North) , the USA at many different boarder crossings, and the GTA plus skiing, camping and other adventure destinations also) I've lived in Windsor also, but currently live in the ridiculously overpriced city of Toronto. Great thing about Toronto is a vehicle isn't required where most other cities/towns, require a vehicle for most work and day to day life.

Damn, that was my plan back in 2018 to move to London once I finished my studies in Ottawa. Things changed in 2019 and 2020. All of Ontario is unaffordable now. London has been the worse. Search homes in London for sale and you’ll see eye-watering prices for little homes. Pre-sales for townhomes are touching a million mark. Same story in Ottawa, GTA, Kitchener-Waterloo, Kingston, and everywhere. Options are Timmins and North Bay but they are expensive too for their size and location. Homes in North Bay at $500k plus. It’s crazy. Calgary and Edmonton became sellers market for the time during that pandemic boom. Record number of people moving to Calgary and Ontario losing net number of people each year. Even worse in Vancouver and anywhere in BC. East hastings area in Vancouver is just third world now, becoming LA and San Francisco…working people living on the streets, I have no hopes anymore, I plan to move to US for higher salary and relatively affordable homes…Ontario has gone to shit…There was a little town in the news few months back which was seeing homes getting sold at a million dollars, away from any big city…Atlantic Canada is even worse…Halifax is becoming too unaffordable…home ownership among my generation is on a free fall…it’s demotivating :(

Having moved to Vancouver 1.5 years I can confirm that it doesn't belong on the affordable list. Also, I moved there from Windsor which is on your list. My 1 bedroom downtown was a LOT cheaper than your average of $1355. I was only paying $850 right on the main downtown street of Ouellette. And it was nice too. Clean, quiet, spacious. Now that same apartment is $1200. A 40% increase in just 18 months.

That figure for downtown Windsor is misleading. I'm paying $900/month for a 1BR in one of the worst neighborhoods. If I moved out, and back in, it would be double. 2BR units start at about $1900/month, unless you're splitting an illegal boarding house, which are very popular here now. Windsor has gotten terrible in the last 6-8 years.

Depends on how much you're usually spending, and are willing to save and invest. It would be a nice exercise to do to budget for yourself and your needs. There's a website numbeo.com that can provide information on cost of living in those cities so you can calculate how much you'll be spending on average. Saving and investing is up to you to decide. And any of tax calculators will help you calculate your salary before tax vs. how much money you will have left after tax to spend, put aside and invest.

I watched this video to see what else was out there. I've lived in Windsor for 41 years. I've stayed here because of my family and what USED TO BE a low cost of living. However, since around 2015, people from everywhere else have moved here. Windsor, if studies were available, has to have one of the highest rates of investment properties. Because of this, rents are skyrocketing. We've historically had the highest unemployment rate, lowest median income and cheapest real estate. Not anymore!! Rents have more than doubled since 2017. One of the main reasons for this, is because people keep comparing that to Toronto. However, unemployment hasn't dropped and salaries haven't risen. Our crime rate and homelessness rate are also skyrocketing. If it wasn't for family and the proximity to Detroit, I'd be long gone. It's cheaper to live in cities like Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo and London. I wouldn't wish living here on anyone. Also, your figures for rent are a bit off. 1-2BR units are going for $1800-2200/month. A 3BR apt or house is about $2400-2800/month.

Lots of outdoor & indoor fun activities in winters within city.
