That's what we do here. We use the seven day a week pill containers with food portioned out to each day of the week and I have two tanks that can't be fed daily I leave those days empty. It is so much easier than trying to explain what tank gets what and which days they don't get fed. We mark a number on the aquarium with a sticky note and the same number on the pill box so there is no confusion over which tank gets which container.

Something I should say you should never do (I am calling myself out on this lol) is to leave your plant trimmings that you want to replant outside without covering them with a damp towel or misting them. I left some trimmings of rare plants that I wanted to propagate, and forgot about them. The next day the leaves looked like the ones you would find on the floor during the fall; completely dried out, and a complete waste of plants. Mist your plants, or cover them with a wet towel! Better yet, fill a piece of tupperware with water, and put them in there!

For vacation feeding I bought a ton of these little make up jars. I think it was like $15 for 50 of them and I fill them with the exact amount of food for each tank and put them in front of the tank with the days labeled. Makes it super easy for whoever is taking care of my fish and I don't have to worry about it.

My husband knows NOTHING about my aquariums, I mean NOTHING!!!! So when I took a trip I used pill keepers for my fish food. He only had to open each one on the right day and dump it into the tanks. No room for error! I'm sure my fish missed their frozen blood worms and my plecos missed their fresh veggies, but they got fed every day and they were all alive when I got back! :-)

I really love this idea. I’ve got a couple of princesses that refuse anything not frozen (my engineer goby is a real brat about this). I suppose you could also have a matching pill container in the freezer depending on what you think your designated feeding person could handle...

I love my pink rams horns. Since I have dojo loaches in the tank, and they eat all the eggs they find, I thought I'd never have an overpopulation problem with them. But they seem to have found enough ways to hide their eggs behind filters or deep inside of clumps of plants to occasionally produce a bumper crops of babies. Some of them manage to escape the loaches and mature, so I find that I need to cull them about every 6 months, but I would never wish to get rid of all of them.

I have a number of tanks and the inhabitants have different dietary needs. The person who feeds the fish when I am away has no knowledge at all but he always feeds exactly the right amount of the right food to each tank. I take the right amount of food for each tank and freeze it in ice cube trays then put each different type in a plastic box in the freezer and each box is numbered and corresponds with the numbers I write on the tanks. All he has to do is to take one 'ice cube' from the correct box and put it into the correct tank and it is always the correct amount and type of food.

We have a large reef tank and actually pay maintenance people to feed every two days and do maintenance, ATO fill-up, and water change as needed. We factor the cost in the holiday budget. While this seems least stressful for the tank and for us, we also don’t want to stress out a family member who may not know something is wrong and will feel guilty.

Assissan snails don’t breed that quickly, they are very different form rams-horns and bladder snails because they have 2 genders and cannot procure a-sexually. I haven’t had any problems with assissan snails breeding out of control. And most pest snails are very good because they eat and breakdown extra food and dying plant matter which helps in keeping your tank clean.

I would have definitely added this NOT to do to your tank: do NOT overcrowd your tank with inhabitants. Or add too many at once. Ammonia spike will definitely happen!

An overcrowded tank makes me feel anxious. I’d never do well with African cichlids. 😆
