6-month review: Traxxas Maxx V2

Ойын-сауық

I have always wanted to get into RC trucks, taking them offroad, jumping them, and hitting big gaps, but I always thought it would be too expensive and require a lot of repair work on the truck. That is why I was excited to get my hands on a Traxxas Maxx v2, hyped up as a monster of reliability and capable of taking a lot of punishment. Does this truck live up to the hype?

    No worries on snipping and adding a new esc plug. And traxxas radios are pretty nice if youre running the tsm ones. And being able to bind 30 traxxas rigs to one radio is a really nice feature to have!

    Thank you, and absolutely. I'm working on a video right now about upgrades for the Maxx V2, not to spoil it, but my recommendation is to leave it stock and make upgrades when (or if) you break something. So far nothing has broke, but I'm about to do the upgrade to the metal gear servo and the metal drive shafts. I think these are both very safe upgrades and do improve the performance of the truck. Unlike most of the crawlers I have, I feel that the metal upgrades should be avoided for this truck because they may actually reduce durability. The force from a hard landing or crash will transfer to different parts of the truck causing parts to break instead of flexing.

    Hey Nate. I ended up pulling the trigger on the Wide Maxx V2. In your view and experience, what are the immediate potential changes I may need to make out of the box (hex hubs, toe links, etc.)??? I haven't even run it yet as I just took it out of the box. Heading to the LHS in the AM, so if there's anything I need to pick up while I'm there, that will be a good time to do it since then shops not right down the road. Thank you again for your time.

  • @Nathan_Adams

    This is the most un interesting answer, but I would run it stock. The plastic is great because it flexes, but does not break. If anything, I would consider picking up the metal axels and metal geared servo, they are a good upgrade if you break the stock ones. I actually did have one of the hub carrier bolts tear out after a particularly nasty crash into a curb, but I just screwed it back in and kept bashing.

    Yes, 100% use the adapter and don't chop the plugs off unless you will never use a Traxxas battery or need to deal with their warranty department. When I made the video, I did not realize that they had adapters from the proprietary Traxxas power plug.

Part of the long explanation is me learning what needs a long explanation and what doesn't (I agree with you in hindsight, this really did not need it), and what I need to explain in detail for viewers. Generally, anyone who has a familiarity with the RC hobby already gets it, but I am learning what those who have never been exposed need explained.

    Just curious, what is the netting or cloth type cover laying over the internals when removing the cover? I loved the point you made about it not being suitable for unsupervised children. What are your thoughts on the Hoss compared to this Maxx V2? Thank you for the video and your time. Stay safe out there!

  • @Nathan_Adams

    @Nathan_Adams

    Жыл бұрын

    The cover over the top of the internals is a "dust cover" for the xmaxx chassis that I got off Amazon to reduce the amount of cleaning I would need to dd since I drive in a lot of grassy and dusty areas. They are like $15 and for me they are worth it. I do notice on hot days it gets a little warmer than without it on there, but it is manageable for my use. As for the Hoss vs Maxx, I prefer the maxx because it is a little longer, a little wider, and has the 4s electronics. It makes it feel more stable and lets me drive a little more aggressively. The Hoss does have more ground clearance, but for me, the extra $100 is worth it for the esc upgrade.

  • @Nathan_Adams

    @Nathan_Adams

    Жыл бұрын

    The radio and reciever would work together, but I have never tried to swap the reciver in a traxxas rc truck out. Since the hardware is not all that different, I assume it is possible. As for the battery, depends on the cell count. Assuming you are looking at the current Traxxas Maxx, the electrics are rated for 4s (4-cell lipo batteries) so a 4s battery from Power hobby should work if you get the adapter for the Traxxas proprietary battery plug to xt60.
