6 Funk Rock Groove Bass Jams
Музыка
Here are 6 takes with some fun grooves and ideas I recorded while working on compositions for this channel. I order of appearance, I’m playing a fretless Duvoisin bass with epoxy fingerboard, a Cortex standard Napoleon bass with Nordstrand Big Blades and a fretted Duvoisin bass, Shagreen Edition by Cedric Vichard. I’m using Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings on all vids except for the stock ones on the 2nd, think those were GHS. The pickups on the Duvoisins are custom 3 volts, with single bridge string attachment without ball-ends for optimal punch & sustain, was carrying pre-cut Ernies when these were my main fretted & fretless :) Some of these vids were around online except for here, so better bring ‘em home to the Groove Lab. There’s much more, for those who have interest let me know in the comments if Patreon or such could be a good idea to release songs, tutorials, behind the scenes footage, etc. Could be fun!
The basses were recorded with the amp’s DI into a Focusrite interface. First vid I used a Trace Elliot AH-300 amp, vid 2-5 an Eich T-1000 and the 6th a Gr One. I used a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor and a Rodenberg 707b on all vids, sometimes a Boss OC-2 Octaver as well. Drums were made in Cubase with Addictive Drums, mastering was done with Ozone.

You are the reason I started playing bass and I‘ve been practicing your lobster claw technique for about 2 years now. I‘ve already seen a video footage of you explaining your right hand, but some more in depth tutorials from yourself would be a huge thing for me personally!

I second that (or more likely a few "thousand" that), the style of how you play is infectious and I have spent far too long watching your videos at quarter speed and practicing to get details but any in-depth tutorial or drills you went through to learn this would be absolutely amazing if you're willing to share that magic.

Just start with easy chromatic picking like the intro of to defy the laws of tradition by Primus. Get comfortable with that. Then add thumb and finger alternating on the same string. Experiment with using more force to get slappy and poppy sounds. Also get good with mutes and left hand slap muted to increase speed sound by incorporating the mutes with this technique. And practice! Doesn't matter how many videos you watch you just gotta do it til you do it

Acoustic guitar is where you want to start. Remco use to play an acoustic guitar before he started playing bass. That was the first thing I noticed when I started watching his videos 10 years ago.

@@amandadavis9726 A good tip! I've actually started that recently but for unrelated reasons.
Good God this has so much groove you can throw out a hip jammin to it.
I put your playlists on at work and listen all day while I’m delivering beer! Keeps me in a groove!! Thanks for the great inspirational jams brother 🤘

if you're not delivering beer from a comically high stack on your shoulder while you navigate a treacherous environment on a skateboard / snowboard / surfboard to this soundtrack, I'm going to be very disappointed.

Close! But he actually does his rounds in roller blades, aviator sunglasses, gloves with the fingers cut off and a helmet with wings on it like Twister’s from Rocket Power.
Your mastery of the fretboard, hammer ons, pull offs, muting skills, right hand control, left hand control ! You are in a class all by yourself, dude !

him and charles berthoud are my favorites bassists but remco have a very special and distinctive sound and style, like a Les Claypool but even more well rounded imo
Your bass grooves always bring me to smile involuntarily and groove out, and I keep getting inspired to keep learning the bass, especially with your versatile low and high-note non-slap percussive techniques. Awesome work!
You are a true inspiration, your approach is so refreshing and creative, thanks for the grooves and the motivation to practice !
These are the perfect 6 boss battle themes for my imaginary game!
Man seriously. You’re an absolute beast! How do you make so many legitimately awesome bass lines?! You honestly deserve more credit as a popular bassist
Hi Remco, as stated before in my previous post, that right-hand technique is unseen, similar to a classical guitarist or flamingo technique .. love it and this compilation of funk.
You have a great style of playing I don't think I've seen before. I see picking but hear slapping and popping. That fretless groove is a killer.
You play the bass with emphasis and power ❤you make it sound melodic like a guitar. Great job my dude .
Last playing bravo, especially!! The phrase and your play style best match.
How awesome is this. I wake up, search my notifications and find you. I recently pulled a bad ram card so I'm down to 4gb on my computer. Which now gives me this really cool blurry effect on YT. I hated it until I played your video. Keep up the great vids, I watch them all the time.
Love this guys technique, especially on thzt fretless great work ,
you are one of the most inspired "funkers" for me...great - what a fretless bass you play there...mega!!
Man, you're out of this world. Absolute mastery of the instrument.
Beautiful sound on the fretless. That string rattle is sweet.
Oh my, this is lovely 😊 Thanks for the bass grooves~
Remco, your Bass from Space album is bad ass. Pure awesomeness.
Sound just like LES, but with your own touch! Love it. I think I will subscribe
Hey. Great great great! Really loved the way you play. Amazing.
Inspiring playing. Love it.
I like number 2. Ghost note selection is great!
Thanks for another masterpiece Remco!
This style absolutely kills!
The first guitar (also appears later) is extremely nice, and in my opinion the first jam is the best of all. You're a fiend on bass, the best I've heard in a long time, and I listen to bass players seven days a week.
Simplesmente hipnotizante. Não tem como parar de assistir. Rsrs
It's a strange and tricky performance! I love it!!
É tanto talento que eu fico de queixo caído, toca muito !
Great video! Of the 6, #1 is my absolute favorite...subbed!
I love your right hand technique! I have to make myself practice that!
Flush frets, sounding immense!
I am impressed as always!!!! Thanks!!!!!
really nice jams Remco, I've gotten a lot better on bass over the years after hours of practice
You alone are an integral band, god bless you ❤
Beautiful licks brother!!! Your technique is sooo unique, innovative, and inspirational!!! The way you strum is unlike anything I've ever seen!!! I put your skillz up on the same super high pedestal as "Skip Wicked" aka Spencer Burton of Indubious, and he's damn near right up there with Flea in my opinion!!! I am stoked that I randomly stumbled onto this video, I subscribed and will be watching from here on out!!! Thank you for sharing this witb all of us!!!
Dude this is cool Haven’t seen this before love it !
Seriously tight fretless work. I dig your thumb pull technique.
Will someone please hook this man up with Tim ''Herb'' Alexander?

Years of practice, although some things do come natural or easy for many, I guess because of the spirit and desire!!!!!
Pure Respect.

The way you pluck with your thumb and index on the big boi string always amazes me.. I wanna do it so bad but my thumb has a permanent home on my pickups 😭
Amazing
