That's incredible. I was actually looking for a 563 when this machine came up online nearby. its amazing the similarities between the two machines. if you had a solid grasp on the 563 you should be good to go with this one! the 1508 is essentially a 563 upgraded for extremely heavy duty use. I will never come close to pushing this machine close to its limits. I hope you are enjoying it so far!

A very nice tour! Thanks for sharing your time and expertise. Some of us will never get to play with these machines until after we've bought them. As such, videos like yours do a world of service!

Thanks for sharing. I’m a cobbler. I just bought that exact, round and white style , used PFAAF 1245 last week. I do love it. Thank you for explaining the pros of the JUKI. Those access doors look very beneficial. I think I’ll have to add a 1500 series JUKI to the quiver next purchase. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks for taking the time!

Wow that's amazing! Cobbling is an incredible skillset. The older Pfaff 1245s are a top of the line machine! Nothing runs smoother. I am currently in the process of lightly restoring mine. Just replacing a few worn parts. If you have any questions on that machine let me know... I will be posting more content of my 1245 in future videos. (my dad used it for 30 years without needing to replace a single thing). I saw a 1245 come up on craigslist last week and it was gone before I could grab it. please keep me posted on how the machine works out for you!

Great channel. I’m one of your subscribers. I have a Thor 1541, that can take 238 thread and has double tension discs and the 6 levels of walking foot height adjustments. It has been incredible.

Nice video! Thank you. I am a beginner, found a Dürkopp 291, close to me. It does have a double twin tensioning set. Would be interesting to see a video about how to proper use the twin tensioning set. I am about to start reparing and sewing awnings for my boat so that is what I am going to use the Dürkopp for.

Thank you for the suggestion! That would make a great video and one that I will add to the list. From what I have read those are excellent machines! They seem quite rare and hard to come by in my neck of the woods though!

Would like to see more detail examples with the tensioners on the Juki 1508N

The 1508 sure is nice, but I don't like the open oil tank for the hook pump. The 1541 is sure a lot cheaper and has a nice enclosed oil tank for the hook. The 1508 top bobbin is nice but also bit more complex. I just bought a 1541S and getting the side bobbin out is tough with big hands; but with rubber tips pliers handy it isn't a big deal. Also ordered the double twin tensioning assembly on Amazon; it should swap out the stock single unit and get same benefits as 1508. With 3:1 reducer and servo the setup is real nice.

That does sound like a sweet setup! I have to agree that the oil tank in kind of a pain. It always gets dirty etc. Ill be honest, at the moment I don't even have oil in it. I lubricate the hook heavily when I change the bobbin and haven't had a single issue. For HEAVY use I can see the benefits, but for my occasional tinkering its really useless. enjoy the new machine!

Thanks for the 1508 insights . I've been trying to decide between a 1508NH or a 2810 model .

yes! those 2810s are sweet machines. If you have the resources, why not! depending on your application though. I have a long neck machine as well and honestly find myself using the standard machine more often. the compact ergonomics of the standard machine are welcome when working on 99.9% of my projects. let me know what you ended up going with!

Very nice video! Can you pleeeeeease do one on adjusting the lifting height of the presser and walking foot? Their user manual is not written by English speakers, simply doesn’t make sense to me. 1. Change the individual lift height of the two foot, and 2. Change who lifts higher than who, which has direct effect on walking over thick bumps

Thank you for this video! I just got the 1508NS and was hoping for more information than has been available. Could you give a little more info on adjusting tensioner specifically for lighter weight and also moving between heavier materials (like vinyl, cork and leather) and back to lighter canvas or interfaced cotton. Any info would be so appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for watching! That is a good question. I am not sure about that. I will say, with the servo motor and a small stitch length this machine is extremely easy to complete very intricate and detailed work. As far as gloves specifically, I can’t say I have ever made a set so I don’t think I am qualified to give a definitive answer on that. Doing some quick research it looks like others are using various machines depending on material thickness. Some machines look very different from what I am using. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

I’ll be honest, I have zero experience with the 867. I know it is what a lot of high end car and airplane manufacturers use. I think it honestly depends on what you’re looking to use it for. I like juki just because of the parts available and manuals. There’s really not a lot of information out there on the Adler. I would look at the Pfaff. Those things are nice! Kinda a mix between the 1508 and Adler.

Question, I recently bought this sewing machine juki LU-1508N and I notice it’s not as fast as my old sewing machine (Consew), I was wondering if is there any adjustment on the clutch motor to increase speed ? Thanks for your time

Thank you for watching and asking this question. Now I’m not completely well versed on the clutch motors but I’m guessing there is adjustments. I’m in the process of moving locations and once I get the new shop set up I will take a deeper dive into this question. My the first place I would start is making sure the tension on the belts correct. By correct I mean just tight enough that the belt isn’t slipping and is applying “good” tension to the flywheel of the machine. Second, compare the size of the flywheels. Just like sprockets size on a motorcycle, flywheels size on a sewing machine will make a big difference in speed. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help but it’s definitely something I will look into down the road.

I did a little research with some others Upholstered around and they recommended me to replace the pulley for a bigger size and that will make the difference, so I went to check my old sewing machine for the size pulley and yes it has a bigger pulley. I've owned the 1510N-7 now for 16 yrs. Loved it so much I bought another one this year. I'll never go back to a lower end model like the 1508. I wish I had it 50 yrs ago when I started sewing upholstery/canvas.

Yes, its been a great machine for me so far. I know mine has been put through its paces in its prior life and it still is tight as can be. There is definitely something to be said about these machines. Also the top load bobbin is an absolute must have in my opinion.

Any idea why this model wasn't equipped the top mount adjustment knob for presser foot height. My juki clone (techsew 4800) has it and I find it useful.

That is a really nice feature that I would definitely enjoy having. I feel like the clones might almost be better machines due to the additional features like you mentioned and attractive price points. I am guessing that all these machines are made in the same factory, (just branded accordingly) and over time, the designs have evolved and improvements have been made. I think the Juki 1510 is the first model in the Juki 1500 series lineup to have the top mounted adjustment knob. I notice that Juki seems to have a lot of machines and with each change they introduce it as a new model number whereas the clone companies buy the 1510 and compare it to the Juki 1508 to entice buyers. you have a great machine. Unless you can find a good deal online, I would advise everyone to buy a clone! Thank you watching my video!

@@undergroundupholstery I was recently going through the process of researching and buying my first industrial machine for leatherwork. Top contender was the Juki 1541S. But the clones add in the presser foot adjustment knob and dual tensioners, allowing for larger thread sizes while also being cheaper. I ended up going with a clone for those reasons, but I wonder if there's any tangible difference in manufacturing quality or longevity.

Great choice @Hanns. I think you made a wise decision! If you don't mind me asking, what clone did you end up going with? To be honest, I would be surprised if there are any differences between the clones and the name brand Juki machines. Now a days, everything is produced in the same factory and shipped to the individual brand where they put their logo on it and decide the price. My guess is that Juki owns the patient and factory contract. As a result, they sell the excess machines to companies like Thor or NC at wholesale prices. For example, Juki may have a contract with a factory that require a run of 5000 machines. Of which, Juki is only going to keep 1000 with their branding and sell the rest in bulk to "clone" companies. I doubt that there is any differences as far as quality goes. Id also be surprised if they aren't made in the same factory. I would be willing to bet that your machine will last just as long as any "name brand" Juki. Take care of your investment with proper maintenance and the machine you have now, will find many generations of use without needing a single part replaced. Also note that the "target market" for these machines are heavy duty factory use (from the sense of workload that they are expected to withstand). Even moderate use in a busy trim shop won't come close to pushing the wear limits of these machines. hope this helps! thank you for taking the time to watch and comment

@@undergroundupholstery I went with the Thor GC1541S with the speed reducer. I considered the Artisan, TechSew, Cowboy, Leather Machine Co, and Juki. I also considered the Sailrite Fabricator for a while until I was clued in that it's a rebadged Tacsew 111 with a much higher price tag. Ultimately the decision came down to the dealer and shipping costs. The shop most local to me is a Juki dealer, but was unresponsive when I asked questions either via phone or email. So once I realized I'm going to have to mail order, I reached out to a few places. Sunny Sewing Machines was the only one I could get ahold of and they were super friendly and helpful. So I ended up getting a Thor. The shipping company dropped the first one. I called Sunny and they told me how to handle it and sent a new one, no problem, so I've been happy with them and feel they'll be there to support me if I have issues. I'm experimenting with the new machine. They claim it will handle thread sizes up to 277 (the Juki is speced for 138). That was another selling point for me, but I was a little skeptical until I tried it. Turns out it works beautifully. Biggest issue is the bobbin is a little small for such thick thread. I found size 207 to be a great compromise for heavy duty projects. On the other end I'm experimenting with size 69 for working with canvas. I skip one of the tensioners and it works great as well! I do love the versatility. So far the machine has been a dream and hopefully with proper maintenance it'll last a lifetime. Especially because as you say, this isn't a factory floor and sewing isn't my day job, so it's not under anywhere near the stress of it's intended use.

I am glad that you are happy with your purchase! I agree, the shipping costs really do add up quickly. what size bobbin thread do you use when sewing with the heavier threads? I tend to find myself using 92 thread on almost all of my work (99.9%). If I am doing a nice top stitch ill bump it up to 138 but I never go crazy. m a firm believer of once you find something that works don't change. On the flip side I can't say that I have ever used 69 before. Most of the work I dabble in leans towards heavier auto/ home materials. I am curious to start experimenting with different thread sizes in the near future though!!! Definitely keep me posted on your progress and how the machine holds up!

well, I have had great luck on craigslist/ marketplace. Just be patient and set a reminder. Other than that, online is probably your best bet depending on where you are located.

From the outside looking in, my guess is that from a servicing standpoint both the 1508 and 1508n have no noticeable differences. Same needle to hook adjustments, same oil points, same bobbin winder set up, etc... as far as parts, the regular 1508 does have a different parts list.
