6 Exercises to PUNCH HARDER & Faster (Boxing & MMA)

Спорт

I often get asked about strength for boxing, and to be I hardly did any, ever.
Instead, I do circuit training that contained this sort of stuff.
That been said I’m not against strength work, lifting weights etc, you just need an expert to help with with that (I’m not that guy unfortunately)
How’s your Strength training?

Hey Tony. As someone interested in and about to start boxing I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work my friend. As for strength training. I found that focusing on the big and heavy compound movements is the best form of weight training for all types of sports. As for me, my workout has a heavier focus on my shoulders and triceps with things like Standing shoulderpress and dips which from what I can tell has resulted in me being able to throw faster and harder punches.

I think Landmine is actually called Landmine Press. Its where you are on your knees with the bar overhead gripping the bar with your hands together and lower the bar to your upper chest.

Here are the muscles you need to train, that are simultaneously work together during a punch: 1. Core (You need to be able to twist your body effectively for a powerful and speedy punch) 2. Shoulders (They work together with the core to both make the twisting movement, and lift the hand that is going to be utilized during the punch) 3. Triceps (They work the hardest when the hand is moving towards full extension, so, when the forces of the core and the shoulders have completed their job, the rest is being left for the tricep) Work on these consistently on a gym, and you'll be good to throw explosive punches

I also box , and i like to work calistasthtics , and i like to make it explosive like clap push ups/jump push ups, and jump squats. Even when i do roadwork i try to keep it sport specific, for example: instead of running by the mile at a pace , i run in 3 minute rounds and rest for 1 minute in between rounds . In every round i start off with a jog then i randomly sprint, then jog, then sprint, then jog, etc..... that type of roadwork not only made my cardio tip top, but i developed strong legs. I think of it like a fight: first your in your stance moving at your rythem then in the exchanges is like my sprints. But like a boxing match you usually in your stance and circling or whatever then you exchange ramdomly through out the round , so i try to make my roadwork and other workouts as sport specific as possible because i dont like the idea of a workout that dont benefit me in the ring. Id rather use all of my workout time with effective stuff for boxing rather then useing that time on something that has nothing to do with boxing. That is the biggest thing i have against cross training for me. (Not knocking cross training, but its not for my personal goals which is the most important rule with any workout is weather or not your workout takes you to your personal goal in my personal opinion)

Run 2-3 times a week 1-3 miles, Sprints 1x weekly 5-10 rounds 20x20 or 30x30, Jump rope 3-5 rounds 3 mins 20 second rest, core work (doesn’t help me so I don’t have recommendations), Plyo metrics (THE only thing to consistently help with power) ((check out Mario Rios)), then last but not least we have Calisthenics (the only kind of lifting a boxer needs) This is my routine. Currently an undefeated amateur looking to go to the Olympics 2028, or Pro even sooner You’ll increase this when you go pro btw. This is a good amateur routine to last all three rounds and not get tired plus have agility, strength, and power as well Don’t neglect calisthenics. Boxers say lifting doesn’t help, but my brother and I completely disagree as it’s helped two athletic super freaks w no power (only downside) develop QUITE a punch Last but not least, technique. I could say this a HUNDRED times over and still not stress it enough. Checkout how Bivol developed his power. It was literally just through developing technique and perfect form. That’s one key difference between an amateur and a pro. One has an idea of how to punch, the other KNOWS how to punch Hope this helps.

Arms with weights(lighter ~7kg for "stretch",heavier ~24 for training)45kg squeezing rubber, that's good for fist and lower arm muscles... Until after 10months😳🤯 suddenly broke. And instead stopping, continued to train 3weeks(until bad weather) each day returned with "balloon" on back, took 30-45min to flatten, relax

At his best he was a flashy outside counter puncher. Though contrary to casual belief he was actually quite sloppy & had some bad habbits that you wouldn't want to replicate. His greatest strength that helped him get away with his sloppy habits was his blistering fast speed. For a heavyweight he had the speed of a middleweight. If you want to emulate his style, watch & learn from Sugar Ray Leonard... He did the Ali style better than Ali ever could. As a beginner though, best to not emulate anyone & just build a concrete foundation of fundamental basics. Once you got that down pat then start experimenting with different styles & find what works for *YOU.* Trying out Ali's style as a beginner will only get you in trouble.
