Been watching your videos for quite a while now. I've had a bad habit for a while and I was hoping you can help me. Whenever I play on snare, I lean my elbow on my left side of my body so I am not standing up straight. My pointer finger is also too curled in but whenever I widen it, it goes back to the same position it was in before after a couple of strokes. Lastly, my left wrist gives out really fast causing my traditional grip to get ugly. Any advice, been trying to work on it for about a week now.

xNtro G. Im not sdj but i think i can help a bit. As for your elbow resting on the side of your body and your pointer finger curling around the stick, apply the same advice to both: Go slowly I have experience correcting extreme technique flaws, and the key is to practice simple music slowly. Play four bars of sixteenth notes alternating at 120, but make sure your technique is flawless. If you arent practicing in front of a mirror, start. Its essential for solid technique Watch yourself play and dont let those bad habits surface. If you play music that is even remotely complex, you risk shifting your focus from your technique to the music youre playing. As for your left wrist failing you, the only cure for that is to practice. Practice things you can play well in traditional without your wrist failing then steadily increase the speed and complexity. Be patient, you wont fix these habits or improve your trad grip in 10 minutes. Play slowly and well and increase tempos as you become more proficient. This is all just what has been very effective for me, hope it helps you out too

For your elbow: Stretch. The reason it's happening like that is because you have to stretch your forearms to get the strokes out without leaning your elbow into your body. Naturally yeah your elbow will come in when in traditional grip trying to get strokes out, but your main issue is that your forearm isn't used to extending out. So to stretch it, use your right stick to push your left stick up, and with your left stick you will slightly resist your right stick until you feel a stretch in your forearm. Hold it for 30 seconds, and do it 2 times before you start drumming, and 2 times after you're done drumming. Give it a few weeks and you'll see results. Your pointer finger: Leave it alone. If it's curled in when holding your stick, you should be fine. That's where you'll get your stick control from, so you're good. Left Wrist Giving out: You have to practice more and do more tempo based exercises. Check out this video I believe it will help that out: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aqV8lduOqZXfeco.html
