Many modern name brand locks (like the Master locks he was messing with) have been hardened against that.

NOTE!! This is important for both thief and home masters!!!

To melt the bigger lock you need to use a clay grafite crucible as a funnel by drilling a hole in the bottom of the crucible when you fill the crucible with the thermite the stream will be directed onto the lock underneath it
