Even though this is supposed to be about free things, I would just like to say that paying the $25 for the Anki phone app is well worth it. It's protecting your investment in school because Anki is a true gamechanger. No more reading pages and pages of notes, hoping you remembered some of it!

Yay, tech hints were in the video! Big IT hints: Save revisions (like multiple copies of a document with different names as you go). If you make a formatting change or merge in someone else's contributions or proofreading notes, you don't want to find out at a bad time that you wiped out a paragraph or number of pages. "Bad time" can include being past the "Undo" history for the program or simply not knowing how to go back without losing your work since the mistake. Also, thanks to bratty KZread for going on with the playlist while I was typing this comment so I could it START OVER, so KZread itself demonstrates the value of save points. Same with all web forms: copy your text to somewhere else like a Notepad/WordPad/NotePad2/NotePad++/LeafPad window. Don't trust browsers, forms, login sessions, or cookies to behave (not lose your data) in any context.

You are learning Japanese? That is cool in various ways, as you are still expanding your skills beyond your job while practicing a highly demanding job and have LegalEagle as a project. It is also good for human connection - it is a personal detail and it shows that you still try you own didactic methods on your own, before you apply them do your students. I think all of education would be a lot better if every teacher/Professor would go the extra mile of keeping on learning (particularity outside the comfort zone) and to practice on them self what they preach. (Making me watch your videos, despite having no interest in going to law school generally, let-alone an american one. You are just a great guy in general)

For real though, I've been really struggling with how to prepare notes for open book exams. Until law school, I was always able to get good grades despite doing hardly any work. I've managed to scrape through the law subjects I've taken so far, but I hate not being at the top of my class. I know I have to read my textbook and all the assigned cases, and I take notes by hand during lectures, but I have absolutely no idea how to synthesize all that information into a condensed, cohesive set of exam notes. I've reviewed some exams with my professors, and I've lost a lot of marks because I missed a particular case, precedent or point of law. My analysis and application is always spot on, but I'm falling short because I don't know a solid process for converting course material into notes that will help me ace exams. I've been trying to find videos talking about this, but everything covering note-taking is just notes to help study, which is totally different from what law school requires. If you could offer any tips or insight on this that would be amazing.

The thing is, you're not graded on your ability to "read the textbook." You're graded on your ability to write an "issue spotting" essay -- which is a very specific animal. Everything that you do is relevant only in so far as it helps you on the issue spotting essay. That's why we created our masterclass (www.legaleagleprep.com/masterclass) There is an entire methodology to breaking down an issue spotter, finding every issue, stating the relevant law, applying the facts to the law, and arguing every side. Our philosophy is that if the goal is to do well on the final (which it should be during 1L), then start with the final in mind and work backwards from there. And that's exactly what our course does. You can't synthesize the law if you don' know how you are going to use it. Outlining is all about honing the tools that you are going to use on the final.

I'm a foreing lawyer recently accepted in Penn State' LL.M. In your experience, what are the odds for me to sit in the CA or NY Bar exam by getting that degree? Do I have reasonable job opportunities in the US by getting an LL.M.? I'm a big fan of your videos. Thanks in advance!
