Great shooting! I believe you will be surprised with the velocity hornady leverevolution will give ya it's also pretty accurate. Also, the Berger 130 OTM AR hybrid will shoot lights out in the Grendel. I made a call to Berger and they stated that this bullet is also approved for hunting and they actually recommended it over the classic hunter for whitetail. I've made a couple of call to Berger over the years and they are very informative and great people to do business with. Great channel and awesome video. Thanks.

I finally received my bullet's for my new 6.5 Grendel. The H-120 Gr. ELD vs Sierra 120 Gr. using the H335. Good grouping with Hornady, and bullet's hitting with the Sierra 120 Gr. It only had 7 rounds through it.

The 130 Tipped Matching and power pro varmint shot pretty darn good out of my CZ 527. 24" barrel. I got right at 2485 @ 28.8 grains. Averaging 1.4" groups@200 yards. With federal brass that weighs 115 to 116 grains. CCI BR primers. Overall length was 1.71 measured with comparator on my digital caliper. I started at 28 grains and went up by .2 of a grain at a time. Velocity started at an average of 2375. 2392. 2460. 2470. 2485. For each 5 shot group. The 28.6 and 28.8 grain loads all hit in the same spot. All ten shots just over 1.6" at 200 yards, so i split the difference and loaded a box at 28.7. And shot a 4.5" group@ 535 yards. Pretty happy with that. Out of a pencil barrel hunting rifle. Good luck with your Grendel!!! And great videos.!!!

Great video again. I ran the numbers on that 2261fps speed with 135gr Berger Classic Hunter, .584 G1 BC. At sea level, it wouldn't hit 1800fps until 350yds exactly, still has 972ft-lbs of energy. Still has 1000ft-lbs at 325yds, and is still supersonic at 1000yds using the G7 .303 BC. I actually called up Berger about another topic, and the 135gr Classic Hunter came up. The tech support guy told me they developed it for 6.5 Grendel. I figured he meant 6.5 Creedmoor, but looking at the ogive and how short it is, whereas the boat tail is long, maybe he was right, because we talked about CM as well.

I bought a 20” barrel 6.5 Grendel and have been handloading, 140 grain hollow point bullets over 28 grains of accurate arms 2520 powder, my standard deviation is 7.4 with a velocity of 2279 fps. This is a new barrel with less than 60 rounds through it and I am receiving three-quarter inch groups with this load data. Sounds crazy but I think 100 grain to 123 grain bullets do fly flat, but for me the 140 grain bullet groups better out to 200 yards.

My Grendel did not really shine until I loaded the 120 SMK over H322. Other powders were fair to good, H322 puts 5 shots inside 3/4 MOA on a pretty consistent level with a few groups under 1/2 MOA. I know each rifle is different, but my CZ527 ( skinny barrel ) is now a keeper. I just need to let it cool every 5 shots or the groups will open up a bit.

with a BC of .584 and minimum expansion rating at 1800 FPS you don't need much more velocity for potential effectiveness out to 300 yards distance Velocity Ft-Lbs Muzzle 2261 1532 100 2123 1351 200 1990 1187 300 1862 1039 if you compare this to your 300 blk results with the Seirra 135 gr with a BC of .290 it comes up way short of this Berger 135 - assuming the same velocity: distance Velocity Ft-Lbs Muzzle 2261 1532 100 1988 1185 200 1737 904 300 1511 684 Now all we need are some high BC's in light weight 277 bullets - arrrrgggg.

I was thinking with the 1:8 twist barrel that heavier rounds would respond well. I am interstate if there are any factory loads with heavier than 123 gr bullets. The bulk of my hunting will be less than 300 yards, so I would take accuracy over a flatter trajectory.

I admire all your work to do the analysis - kudos to you! I was looking at Hornady's 65 Grendel products and all 3 have muzzle velocities of 2580, which is much higher than all 4 of yours. They are 123 Grain. Assuming their products have the expected accuracy, why so big a difference? And, is there a benefit of accuracy in a lower velocity (and associated lower "wild" behavior from higher powder charges)?

Also, looks like 29.0gr of AA2520 should be closer to the actual max charge, looking at the data from western powders/Accurate, from 107gr to 123gr the max charges are 29.6gr or heavier, I'm betting that 28.5-29.1 would be a good test, in 0.2gr increments for 4 different 5 shot groups. www.vihtavuori.com/en/reloading-data/rifle-reloading/6-5-mm-grendel.html

Alexander Arms somehow figured out a way to do 2600 with 123 Scenars out of a 20” during their testing, but they are the only ones. I haven’t found a powder yet that will come close to that. 2500 is a safer number to aim for, but there are still only a few powders that’ll do it before pressure signs, at least that’s the case in my 20” Odin.

Hey Johnny... I'm new to reloading and watch all your videos! I've noticed in your last few videos you're using the small WAOAW scale after you gave the larger version a great review. Are you having a problem with the large scale?

I've been getting enough drift from zero on my small WAOAW that I'm losing confidence in it. Ended up shelving it last weekend and using the Hornady scale instead. The Hornady is slower, but seems more trustworthy. Will probably just use the WAOAW for sorting bullets, etc from now on.

The large scale is still working great! I will use it in the next couple videos, just for the heck of it. I have mainly grabbed the small one lately because it is so small and convenient. I'm also realizing more and more these days that chasing the .02 precision during powder weighing is mostly a waste of time for shooting groups as 100 yards.

J H, you are the first person I've heard of that's had issues with the small WAOAW! Mine is still rock solid! Have you tried fresh batteries? I think I'm still using the original batteries in mine, and I've been wondering what might happen when they get weak.

JRB, I didn't think about the batteries, but I just installed some fresh ones. I'm still having the same problem, which is: once I've calibrated and zeroed (set tare) with the pan on the scale I will get anything from 0.0 to 0.2 once I remove the pan and replace it. What's also interesting is that my tare weight will vary with the pan removed (between -146.5 and -146.7 grains). I can also leave the empty pan on the scale and the reading will drift +/- .1gr just sitting there. I've tried it in several different rooms in the house, so I can't see it being a wind/draft issue.

I went ahead and placed an order! Thanks for the tip. More 2520 is on the way, along with a couple other powders for the Creedmoor.

Johnnys Reloading, could you do a video on how to work up loads for cartridges with no or very little reloading data. I have a 25-45 sharps and it's been my reason for getting into reloading. I have the factory sharps data but want to use different bullets/weight bullets like the Sierra 90gr game king instead of the factory 87gr hotcor.

Midsouth sent me email today if u buy 4 lbs of that shooters world powder u get free hazmat on entire order. They have 2520 in stock in both 1 and 8 lb jugs. That shooters world powder needs a JRB test anyway.

I've been meaning to test some of those powders for a while now. Didn't they used to be cheaper? I'll get around to them very soon! Looks like they have good options for Grendel and Creedmoor. It's worth a try.

Not trying to spend your money... But, yuo really need to pour a concrete pad and build a shed or pavillion to shoot under. 12x16 would be a great size. Shooting table. Gun rack, shelves for holding stuff. Maybe even a place to sit a cooler full of cold drinks, or set a colman stove to make some hot coffee on winter day. Keep you dry in the rain or snow, and out of the hot sun.

Thomas Ewers that's interesting, i bought a box off berger hybrid 140 and i can't make thouse bullets shoot in my 6.5 creedmoor or imy 6.5x55. The 130grs vld hunting works great in both guns, but they are crazy expensive in my country. I prefer lapua scenar ( but not the scenar L) in 123 and 139 grains.
