6.5 Creedmoor At 1000 Yards w/ Ruger American Predator

Спорт

Wow, was today cold or what! I started testing some handloads this morning and the temperature was 12 Degrees. It reached 20 Degrees when I shot this. I decided to measure out 1000 yards today and stretch out this Predator. I am shooting Factory Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor 140g ELD. I put 9 out of 10 on this 36" steel target. I needed to dial 32.5 MOA but started at 30.5 MOA. I guess I wasn't thinking. The first shot was a little low and I adjusted accordingly.
The impressive part was shots 2 through 7, No adjustments were made between shots and it was a 11 7/8" 6 shot group at 1000 yards. That's 1.187 MOA. Unreal for a $400 dollar gun.

Wow, that is one damn accurate rifle! Ruger has hit it out of the park this time! Everything about this rifle is outstanding; from the smooth and massively strong 3-lug fatbolt to the exceptional trigger and bedding system, this has to be for the price the best budget bolt gun made today! Can't wait to get my hands on one.

Thinking about getting this rifle next week. I've never really shot long range stuff before but I've been pushing my AR-15 with a Strike Eagle 1-6x at 300 yards and I just want to go further with more precision without breaking the bank. After this video, I think I'm going to take the dive and get this along with a cross fire 6-24x50 and possibly a Timney 1.5lbs trigger and a decent muzzle break. I really think this will be good for me as I lost both my legs last May in an accident and want something that is fun/challenging while remaining stationary. Thanks for posting this video. I really enjoyed it. Nice shooting as well! I subbed!

I'm a Savage fan (.300 WM) and am looking for a more economical option to shoot more often and setup for long range target. I was torn between a Savage Axis and this Ruger American Predator in 6.5mm Cred. The more I watch videos, such as yours, the more I lean towards the Ruger. Thanks for the great video. Clean, to the point, and not "pushing" the gun. Keep up the great work.

I have the Savage Axis in 223. I don't like it at all. It is NOT the accu-trigger so that is one of the issues. I really dislike the pull on it and it also has had issues right from the beginning with misfires. It is going back for repairs. Now I have a Ruger American in 30-06 and I love that. So today I got a new Ruger American in 223 for my son. I have been looking for a rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and this Ruger American is pulling my attention again. I kind of wanted it as a Tikka but they only have the short barrel models (20 inch). So, I can see me getting this one again. I was actually wanting the Ruger Precision in 6.5 CM and actually found one today. Picked it up and the beast was HEAVY HEAVY. A great bench rifle but I need to hunt with it as well so that one was done for. So if you want the Savage price, up and get the accu-trigger model else go for the Ruger. Also, I like the Ruger bolt way better.

Agreed. I have both and now that I have shot my new Ruger I like it a lot better than the Savage. I had no preconceived notion of one over the other until I had them. I Bought my Ruger 30-06 first - like it loads, then the Savage 223 - hate it, then the Ruger 223 - love it. Shame too, I am not anti Savage but I am now PRO-Ruger. Also looking at their Ruger M77 Guide Gun 338 Winchester Magnum. Any one have one?

But everything you do reminds me of how we shoot only difference is Muzzle Break for you Suppressor for Me (Click on Bird). Get cheap pair of Electronic Ear Muffs. They will reset before bullet gets there. One more thing - I love 243. Not as good to hunt with a long range but easier to shoot than 6.5. Looking forward to your next video. Right now I am going to look at your other ones. Have a Great Day...

Thanks for the video. I just bought one a few days ago and am saving up for and researching scopes. I get a bro deal on vortex so thinking i'll go with them. Ive seen and read videos of people modifying (sanding) the plastic under the barrel claiming that its not a true floating barrel. However I can run two $1 bills between it and the barrel, which I always thought that meant free floating. Thoughts?

Man, that is some darn good shooting. I just bought a Ruger American Predator. I'm waiting on my scope. It should be here tomorrow. I also purchased a muzzle brake. I bought an inexpensive Leapers UTG 6-24x50 scope. I've got a UTG on an AR that I built in 7.62x39 with a Leapers UTG 3-9x50 that I use for hog hunting. With cheap Russian ammo I'm shooting a three inch circle at 100 yards. I would try a little longer but don't have a range with more than 100 yards. I can't wait to shoot the 6.5 Creedmoor! I moved to Florida in 2008. I lived in Utah for 16 years before that. Utah had so many great places to shoot in the desert. In Florida I have to go to a range. I finally heard of one about an hour from me that I think I'll be able to shoot up to a mile. I've said I will be happy if I can shoot 1,000 yards but the way it looks, 1,000 yards isn't any big deal for the 6.5 Creedmoor. What scope are you using? I plan on using the Hornady ELD Match ammo like you.

  • @Progneto

    @Progneto

    6 жыл бұрын

I just read what kind of scope you have. Sorry I didn't read down first. My mouth is watering to get out and shoot this thing. My scope will be in tomorrow. Tuesday, I'll get to the range and get it sighted in at 100 yards. Then I'll try to find the other range where I can shoot further. If I can't find it here in Central Florida, I'm afraid I'll have to pack the gun up and fly to Utah and go to the West Desert with my son. Then I can shoot as far as I want. I don't know if I can handle the cold up there anymore though! LOL.

You will need a scope to dial about 30 MOA or so. Any scope with about 75 MOA of adjustment will get you there. Vortex has some nice offerings. I have the Primary Arms 4-14x44 that will get the job done for a little over $200. I would recommend something with at least 14x zoom.

Man, Ruger has done an excellent job with these rifles. I have one in .450 BM that easily shoots 1 MOA out of the box with factory loads, sometimes better. That was with a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x44 at full zoom. For the price, the average shooter can't go wrong with it. Yeah, I could spend a lot of money on something better, but my skill level will never match the accuracy. Ruger rifles will always have the first crack at my expendable income.

No the sightron will do everything the gun will. I have had it out to 1400 yards and it's super clear, even seeing the splash from the misses. I am working on a mile shot now and because of the lay of the land and the extreme distance, I can't see the splash from the bullet. I should have no problem seeing an impact on the steel at 1 mile. I have it set up now with a 20 moa base and burris signature rings with another 36 moa. I can dial 98 moa on the scope.

Awesome shooting for sure. On the 8th through 10 shoot, you got a better Cheek weld (you can see the crease in your cheek) & hit lower (site picture changed). In earlier shots your cheek wasn't as tight & you hit middle more often. It's a great idea to film yourself & your hits to see what happens with each shot. it's interesting to see how little movements change impact at a 1,000 yards. Thanks, Matthew #MatthewsFabrication

I also added some lead bars to the inside of the stock to add some weight to the rifle. I did a little trigger work and got it to about 2.25 lbs. Then put the scope and brake on.
