6.4 Intake Manifold Swap: What You Need To Know!

Here is a video on what you need to know when doing the RAM 6.4 intake manifold swap with your 5.7.
It’s very simple but I’d figure I’d share a few things you need to know.

You can pick up a new 6.4 intake manifold at Moe’s Performance or Modern Muscle Extreme.
This intake alone won’t do much but if you have supporting mods it will help.

    These engines do not need any type of upper valve train lubrication whatsoever so that extra oil that's in your intake manifold he is simply condensation of the fuel/oil vapours mixed together in the process. When the vapours reach or intake manifold with it, obviously being a lot cooler than inside the engine causes it to condensate similar to your toilet on a humid day and then run down the side of your intake manifold. When I emptied mine, I had at least a half a litre that was taking a precious air space that could've been used for the combustion process. The PCM doesn't compensate for that space taken up by the oil which creates a performance issue. If you clean your throttle body once a year by removing it, you might be able to catch most of the oil before it goes into the actual intake manifold itself like mine had.. it took me 10 hours to wash out all of the engine oil that was caked on the inside of my intake manifold mainly on the bottom. I must've went through a bottle of dawn, dish detergent and hot soapy water along with cover cleaner and a leaf blower to blow everything out to check for any remnants of oil. Then I bought a baroscope to check the insides to make sure everything was moving OK and no more oil was inside. I cleaned up my throttle body as well and then when I put it all back together I thought I had a new truck. I didn't know what happened and then it hit me that all of that space that was being taken up by the oil, not to mention the degradation of the fuel and air mixture entering my intake manifold because of PCV GASES that robbed my fuel of octane. This is why the scan is very important. It doesn't necessarily net you any gains per se in horsepower but as far as performance, it allows your engine to run optimally with your oil lasting longer because it's not diluted from the fuel and air mixture by gases, thus increasing the light expectancy of your engine. as per for air induction system, it's a must an absolute necessity because of the added flow by due to the higher pressures inside the engine cylinders

    Sweet build. What cold air intake do you run with your 6.4 intake? I have been looking at the sb cold air for 2014-2018 2500-3500, will one of those work out?

    My challenger rt 2016 have 3.09 lcd And 6.4 shorty headers And afe s3 intake Is the ported 6.4 intake manifold worth it?

    It will be ,you need to get rid of shorty headers they do nothing for you. All show and no go. Long tube headers is where you will see performance gains, and the manifold will give you all it's worth. Otherwise don't bother.

    With early 5.7 non eagle intake to the 6.4 do you know of any additional things that may be needed other the than 5.7 eagle intake spacer

    The sensors aren't going to match up, MAP and IAT, throttle body mounting, and maybe fuel line connection to fuel rail.

    Im planning on doing that to my 20 rebel.but modern muscle extreme told me everything comes with the 6.4 intake. Only thing i had to add is spacers and c.a.i.and bettrr throttle body...any thoughts.

    @@TunedRAMS well i figured ill keep using my 91 canned tune. Spend $45 vs $250 for the tune itself without the spacers.for now.

    @@TunedRAMS you need them to run your 5.7 injectors in the 6.4 manifold, otherwise you need to tune for the 6.4 injectors and then use those.

    You can use the same, modify it as r use the 6.4 air box like I did, let’s more air in. Slap a high flowing air filter in too

    ​​@@jesusb2244 I have a Hellcat throttle body on a ported 6.4 manifold. You will need an adapter plate, the bolts won't match up and the manifold throat can't be ported enough to match the 92mm size of the hellcat TB.

    Probably could with some modifications, but the fuel rails usually come with the 6.4 when you get one

    When you modify and engine for performance the factory oil recommendation is no longer relevant. 0w40 would be much better.

    I still use 5w20 full synthetic. Some people have changed the weight of their oil and the key is to make sure that the mechanics of the engine can spread that oil during a cold start up. Especially OHC engines.

    It’s more of a supporting mod gain, alone it may give 5hp, with a cam, fbo, headers, could give 15-20hp

    What else do I need with this change? Tune alone? I have flowmeter 50 HD muffler and upgraded air filter with gas paddle commander.

    May not even need a tune unless you got the 6.4 injectors.

    I’m looking at building my Ram to push 1000HP, I need lots of advice to upgrade my 5.7L. Biggest problem I have is money as I know how expensive it is

    1000hp? Yeah that’s going to cost ya. You’ll need a very beefed up transmission, rear end and a 5.7 stroked that can handle the boost!

    Only for weed whacker engines. This oil in the intake does nothing more than lower octane and build carbon when burning in the pistons, in addition to screwing up cats as well if you have them.

    @@user-ru9nr8eb8h gas weighs 6 lbs a gallon, an ounce or two isnt going to tip the scale. Both intakes had a little bit in the right side fuel rail, very small amount

    ​@@sxykia nope. They use the same transmission. 6.4 and 5.7 are identical in terms of fitment except for displacement and the front timing cover That's the beauty of it, it's like a Lego, as long as you have the money to buy the parts, it's easy to make it work.

    ​@@sxykiai I wouldn't waste the money swapping the motors 5.7,6.1,6.4 its the same short block 5.7s are stronger you can redline more. Cylinder walls are thicker i would just do forged crankshaft cam few other things um rebuilding my 5.7 now
