5th Generation Warfare: History, Modern Context, and (Some) Solutions

450 man-hours, 107 books, and 3 copyright strikes later, we finally have our latest video. Let's see how many people we can get to unsubscribe with this one.
This is intended to be more of a reference for later, so that when we mention 5GW in future videos or other content, we can have a video to refer back to for those unfamiliar with the topic.
As always, sticking with purely the academic explanations and solutions ignores significant problems that are very real, so we also provide some thoughts and solutions that hopefully create a more rounded explanation, especially in a civilian context.

Just a few reminders for everyone who's just become aware of us, in order to keep these briefings from being several hours long, we can't cover everything. We're probably covering 1% of the world events when we conduct these briefings, so please remember that if we left it out, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's unimportant. Also, remember that we do these briefings quite often, so we might have covered an issue previously that you might not see if you are only watching our most recent videos. We're also doing this in our spare time, so again we fully admit that these briefings aren't even close to being perfect; we're going for a healthy blend of speed and quality. If we were to wait and only post a brief when it's "perfect" we would never post anything at all. So expect some minor errors on the slides here and there. If there is a major error or correction that needs to be made, we will post it here in the description, and verbally address it in the next briefing, whenever that is. We do not have a set schedule for when these videos are published...when we get enough info that we think is worth it, we brief it. If we were bound to a schedule we would be obligated to provide fluff for the days where there isn't anything worth commenting on. Also, thanks for reading this far. It is always surprising the number of people that don't actually read the description box to find more information.

Another way to look at this is seeing returning veterans struggle with civilian life, not because of PTS/D (or similar) but because working, and succeeding in civilian life is no walk in the park. In other words, if we practice mutual respect by continually earning it, and building trust from it, then we will all succeed within the confines of the US Constitution, laws, norms, etc.

Bro-vet culture can literally be the worst. I understand that the transition back to civ life is hard for some, it was for me (literally went back to living with my parents for a year because I thought I had no marketable skills) but that doesn't give us a pass to be a big asshole and pretend to know everything. I take way more pride in the recent prepared citizen/minuteman movement than I do slaving away for a corrupt government.

Career Army officer here, this is dead on the mark. The military leadership has been stripped of officers who understand and support the constitution. In my day, we discussed these problems openly and we're required to explain the concept of an illegal order. Doubt that happens any more.

When you look at the execution of the Civil War, for example, and comparing that to your time as an officer, I wonder if this maybe waxes and wanes(?). If so, it definitely seems to be waning, as far as I can tell. I was enlisted and our own command propagandized us heavily for the second invasion of Iraq. We were a group of mostly Arabic, Hebrew, and Farsi linguists. We could separate the truth from the lie, although most didn't let it bother them. For my part, I was very outspoken against the war, even on duty. I was warned that my command would make things turn out very badly for me if I kept it up. Regarding the Civil War, here's something from General Sherman, 1863: _“The amount of plundering, burning, and stealing done by our own army makes me ashamed of it. I would quit the service if I could for I fear we are drifting towards vandalism. Thus you and I and every commander must go through the war justly chargeable for our crimes.”_

This really put into perspective what my gut has been telling me. I had already deleted most social media accounts after the "election". Normally I'm pretty hot headed. Yet, looking at how completely helpless people seem to be right now, I've had to curb that, and desperately try to be encouraging, grounded, and informative in nearly every minor social encounter I find myself in. I already recognized that there is a war being waged on our very humanity.

The jab stuff seems to have disappeared almost overnight, where I was ready to completely upheave my life over it. Now I'm in the process of building resources and have become a source of information and insight for my parents and extended family. The other day I told my wife "yeah, I basically expected the global economic collapse or the next great catastrophe to happen by now." She agreed, and said that would mean we'd have to figure out how to pay off the new air conditioner. lol. I don't talk to people at work.

My dad was a generation ahead.....he saw Eisenhower's use of 82nd (?) to desegregate Little Rock schools as exactly .mil being used against people. He later said he even noticed this while serving in '50s when he & all the base SNCOs had to take several days of instruction on identifying and reporting political (commie) infiltration of lower ranks. It was basically a class in recognizing "propaganda". He said civilian "suits" accompanied uniformed officers for some of the teaching sessions. Hmmm? Dear old Dad saw just how easy it was to "indoctrinate" even some of the old school, hard bitten, multi-hitch SNCOs, most with overseas deployments. He said he was disappointed in many he considered friends for swallowing the over-hyped "commie-under-the-bed" targeting of 18/19 year old draftees under their purview. He was more concerned with "commies" at senior levels of State Dept and even in DoD........oh how time proved him right

I'm glad that S2 is starting to see that states have always been at war with their own people, and that declaring war against some foreigner or "terrorist" allows states to do things AGAINST their own citizens in ways that they can't do if everything is peaceful. We are definitely in a 5th Gen war. Everything is expensive, parts shortages and lost days from work and a coldly indifferent government are starting to impinge on our lives. It's all picking up speed. It's time to start being self reliant. I come from a family of teacers but you're right on about schools. Also moving to a more rural area is a big relief if you can swing it.

  • @NormieNeko

    @NormieNeko

    9 ай бұрын

I've never left rural America... Traditionalists idolize rural life, but it has different issues than suburban and urban settings. Land can be expensive or simply not for sale because it's owned by the government or a corporation. Most people live in town, but at least HOAs are rare, and some places allow small farm animals for a monthly payment to the town. Drug use is high because a good chunk of the smaller population is addicted compared to a larger urban population. Jobs are few. People generally drive to the nearest largest small town and closest city for work, which can be about 40-60 minutes one way. Remote work is better, but internet infrastructure is lacking so speeds are slow. Bigger cities much farther away buy up all the water rights and leave the area dry. Most farming is corn, hay, and marijuana. We lack variety in services and entertainment. The schools are barely woke, but the quality is definitely shit. The politics are very conservative, and while that's fine for me, there are a few locals with different views regularly complaining or trying to get elected to go against the majority view. The plus is definitely the ability to live out Wild West romanticism (with a few limitations), homesteading, and off-grid living. Homeschooling is usually legal with state testing only mandatory every few grades in progression. Most people have at least one legal firearm, and living out of town allows DIY shooting ranges. Most things are cheap. Taxes are lower. Crime is lower. Slow living is the standard. You are forced to be self-sufficient. You can make helpful loyal friends if you join a local group like a church etc. You can also get away with a lot to be honest. Redneck entertainment and events are the norm, so people who don't like rodeos, mudding, racing, derby, barn dances, 4H, drinking in public, and built pickups with straight pipes are screwed. Most people are white, and those who aren't simply act white (cultural influence). You usually find more Mexican immigrants (1st & 2nd gen) in rural towns than anything else, so at least the Mexican food is decent - that's the rural southwest anyway. I'm probably never leaving because of convenience and choice. I still process the pros and cons though. Newcomers usually don't stay beyond 5 years because they can't handle the change.

I think one of the problems we have today is that we assume this is new. Some aspects of it sure are, and the speed of it as well. But look at Sun Tzu, that dude was talking about this stuff thousands of years ago. The Byzantines were also masters of using their whole state to change perspectives, use proxy states, their religion (even language) to turn enemies into allies and allies into enemies. Often these enemies were tribes, or other non-state actors as we'd call them today. The problem I see really is the volume of information - who has time to actually suss it all out? Especially if you work 40+ hours a week, have a family or any meaningful hobbies/community. Ironically, it seems we've all or mostly become consumers of media. Good information, great presentation.

  • @erikortlieb7282

To answer your question of sussing out information, much of it can be accessed quite easily. If the government decided to go after all the people that have purchased xzy items as terrorists, they could easily have thousands of data points of people who have purchased xyz, along with addresses, banking info, you name it. Given any one variable that could be easily determined, such as xyz purchasers, mass attacks on said individuals personal lives could be carried out almost instantly. It’s all dependent on what the purchasers the government would indicate as “risky individuals”.

1.) Biggest flaw of the video: Framing the people that restrict our freedom of "our choice of how we live" ("5th gen enemies") as a class whose primary characteristic is "being our enemies", per see. Almost everyone besides myself is my enemy AND my ally, depending on the issue we are talking about. It's the nature of humans; they are multi-variable, in good and in bad ways. ^^ All the classical "war enemies" (soldiers) have always been that way too --> multi-variable, in good and in bad ways. Reducing them to enemies is always taking a controversial shortcut, that is functional & may be needed in war, but is not "right/ accurate". Life is about prioritising "your battles" on different levels of social hierarchy - whether it's nations-level, local community-level, family-level or your-own-mind level, just to name a few.

2.) All 5th gen warfare always existed. It's called a conflict of perceptions & a conflict of interests. ^^ The only thing that changed is the breadth of our information exposure, due to social media. Consequently, we can be exposed to the Wild West of information overload & perspective-warping methods that are much more cost-effective & formidable than they once were. It was a great thought-provoking video

Back in the 80’s we spoke of “full spectrum” warfare. Military, economic, information, land, sea, space and air. I believe what is now identified as 5th generation warfare, more fully describes this concept. Of course you could logically say that 5th gen war would have been waged in the past if the technology existed, so are we only bounded by the current limits of technology to determine which generation of warfare can be waged?

The other thing I find myself pondering is that the info battle has been going on for a long time. We obviously had organized propaganda at least back to the Spanish American war, and it was very organized and comprehensive by the time the gulf wars rolled around. So I’m not entirely sure I see a hard line between the info battle-space as a support element of 4G warfare, and the 5G framing… Yet there’s clearly a difference between the info war as a merely an enabler of cohesive kinetic action, vs what we’re experiencing now… 🤔

I would say your question is absolutely relevant to the definition of any generation of warfare ever discussed. I tend to think it is the case. The only obtuse piece i find in the puzzle is; our warfare waged between the atomic bombs being dropped and now. Part of me truly thinks there will never again be a weapon of that magnitude deployed to any human battle. To a degree that is true of chemical weapons too. Nerve agents used on a battlefield, a city...Perhaps human beings have set that as a boundary for physical war. We can deal with a man killing a few men with a mortar, m.g, or even a men killing hundreds with a large scale air strike. But the single bomb that is always chosen to be used by one man, to kill thousands/millions is just too far...Probably wishful thinking lol

"..so are we only bounded by the current limits of technology to determine which generation of warfare can be waged.." --good question. I'd say the limits (just riffing here) are: 1) Level of Technology available for harm/mischief 2) Subterfuge/Obfuscation limits - after they do it, can they hide it or blame someone/thing else? 3) Education/Propaganda - are the minds currently groomed to accept the narrative about what has been done. Can they remember things? Can they think critically? Can they stand independently without confirmation? Can they see through complex patterns and make simpler patterns from them? 4) Level of psychosis of current ruling peoples - how crazy are they today, this year, this generation? 5) Defensive health of populace - do they stay fit, do they stay smart, can they fight or shoot? do they have hackers amongst them? Do they believe in healthy things or toxic things? Family strength, is it present? Hate and divisive - are they strong together or weakened by inner squabbles - etc. I'd say these are the give big ones right?

The adherents of Duhet, bomber warfare school, swore that massed bomber formations would render nations unable to resist. Resistance being the key term here. But Clausewitz explicitly stated that the end state was "If we desire to defeat the enemy, we must proportion our efforts to his powers of resistance." Not the HOW we fight, but the WHY. The methods are irrelevant to the ends.

I forget where I heard this phrase, but it highlights a relevant concept today; "in this age it's becoming increasingly difficult to differentiate between an imperfect ally and an enemy to your cause." If this definition of fifth generation warfare is correct, then we should consider verifying an enemy to a cause is in fact an enemy, or just an imperfect ally; if we don't, then chaos is sure to insue, and the cause will become twisted and unclear.

I can get you the publishing information from the books I found, but most were from old bookstores. I just started buying up every old informational text that I thought could be useful gardening, plant identification, basics of physical health, chemistry, economics etc. Once I had a basic grasp of some skills I went to a gun shop and just asked if someone could help me and explained my issue. Those guys were awesome and seemed to love to explain to a complete newbie, lol. I also went to a nursery and started asking how to go about growing food to live on. That was helpful, but you have to understand ALOT about soil that I never even considered. For example, I never thought about testing for nitrogen levels...One thing I have found is that just asking and being honest about ignorance goes a long way in getting help. It sounds ridiculously simple, but in most cases people love to explain how to do stuff. Just be careful and make sure to use common sense when weighing facts.

Like im blackpilled to such an degree so extreme I just feel like everything we do is only postponing the inevitable end result of this 5th gen war being waged against us. But I care about this world, and I wanna fight for it. I know if I work hard enough I can be a good soldier in this conflict. I may be a young civilian, but ive made it 22 years without any addictions or major illnesses, and honestly ive kept my head out of all the bullshit. Ive always been redpilled. So much so I am totally unable to find entertainment value in our entertainment because I see past all the smoke and mirrors and I see things for what they are. I know when propaganda is being pushed my way and it has no effect on me because I am aware to its existence. My biggest issue is that I need more knowledge and experience. And I also need to fight off the extreme blackpilled attitiude and stop being so damn jaded. Its time to start arming myself with the most powerful weaponry I can possibly get my hands on. Knowledge. A sharp mind trumps a sharp sword. Though I do have weapons such as firearms, the sharpening of my mind is something I am actively working on. I dont think we can win this war, but im going down kicking and screaming if I gotta. Lets make the war as frustrating and difficult as possible for the state.

As we see in the Ukraine conflict at least on the Russian side the soldiers are standing up and saying Look if we’re going to fight fight to win with the least casualties. Ukrainians are more open to listening to their soldiers and implementing or allowing their ideas. Many learned in the US they didn’t fight to win and we’re politically sold out. Since then they realized they were being used by corporations as well as politically manipulated. Now the obvious politics and outright treason has really come out into the light of day.

I don`t understand why insurgency doesn`t count for ww2. It was a HUGE part of it although especialy the english speaking world backs it out because the estern allies worked directly with communist partisan groups. Were there other partisan groups? Yes! But those mostlly fighting and attacking supply lines, preferably attacking axis hospital trains on a huge scale were communists. Most of the others were waiting for day x. To my understnding the UK even had set up partisan networks in spain to attack the supply lines in case gibraltar was attacked from land. Short before germany attacked the HQ of the partisan leader Tito in the balkans (called Operation Rösselsprung) one of Churchills sons was there in a big meeting on partisan warfare (incuding a sowjet general) and when the germans attacked (airborne assault) there were brittish and US personal training partisans while, in the same area the sowjets were training political commissars. Even a considerable amount of the OSS, which later became the CIA was communist.
