5th Gen 4Runner Modular Rear Bumper Install

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We put together a video detailing some of the more intricate steps for installing our Dissent Off-Road 5th Gen 4Runner Modular Rear Bumper. The video covers three different installs and various camera equipment so we apologize for the format changing back and forth.
Thank to Brennan at Trail4R for the use of his vehicle for design and fitment testing.

Do you have to cut the sheetmetal in the wheel wells or is that just for a future tire upgrade?

You really should make the small cut. Otherwise there may be a slight clearance issue with the bumper which could interfere with alignment or at minimum cause squeaking. The larger cut Ben mentioned would be for larger that 33" tires.

Take my advice with a grain of salt because I clearly don't have the experience that the Dissent folks do, however, I just finished installing my bumper and I did not cut the frame because I was not super excited about having a water ingress point from cutting into the pinch weld. That said, I did have to modify that area, because as stated by @dissentoffroad, there is a clearance issue if you don't. However, I just gently hammered the small fin on the underside up and inside (which admittedly would not have disrupted the pinch weld at all) and, more importantly, the corners that are in the wheel wells. It was pretty easy to make plenty of room, and if you are careful, you can do it without breaking the pinch weld seal. The only thing that I did disrupt was some factory-installed sealant that was layered over the welds to (I assume) seal the pinch weld. Easy enough to reapply a similar product, clean up the area, prime, and paint. It is worth keeping in mind that I only have 33" tires, so my method would probably not work well for larger tires. I should add that the install was very quick and easy. The worst part (which was wasn't that bad), was prepping the frame (grinding/sanding rust away, cleaning the bumper thoroughly, priming, and painting), angle grinding the frame weld goobers (priming and painting), and chasing all the bolt holes to clean them out (some of the M8 holes on the underside of my frame were really gunked up). Hope this helps.

Hey Dissent, what about the interior black portion of bumper at the bottom lip of life gate? Does that stay exposed? I didn’t see an interior finish pic

If you are referring to the body between the bumper and liftgate, we supply bolts to fill the exposed holes. Some T4R are well painted in that area and that is enough. Some are painted poorly, in which case, we recommend masking the area of and spraying it with black spray paint to clean up the look. There needs to be a gap there for body flex so we can't install a cosmetic cover panel.

Can i request the option to have the spacers for both no hitch and factory hitch? I’d like the option to add the hitch back should i need to use it.
