I always figured the Constellation was a "special purpose" ship (aka "sneaky beaky black ops") ship, given the proximity of its pennant number to that of Glenn and Discovery (1017 vs 1030 and 1031). Yes, I subscribe to the theory that pre TNG pennant numbers were assigned based on the expected role a specific ship it going to be in, with blocks of numbers given over to a role (1700-1900 being long duration explorers, 1000-1050 being "special purpose" etc).

I remember it was in a book where Spock mentioned it having 4 nacelles, but I do not remember the title of the book. I just remember how cool I thought it was that the Vulcan crewed Intrepid had 4 nacelles, but since it was long before Memory Alpha and Memory Beta came into existence (even before the Star Trek Encyclopedias were ever written) I never have seen the idea put into drawings or CGI.

Have you read the recent Star Trek novel “Drastic Measures” it goes into the Tarsus IV incident in much further detail? Also do you count the USS Biddeford (Admiral Marcus’ ship before he had the USS Vengeance from Star Trek into Darkness) as a canon Constitution Class? I personally do because it theoretically would’ve been in use before the Constitution Class fleet was scrapped and rebuilt using tech from the Narada. Because it was implied in some of the tie in comics (although they’re technically beta canon) that there was an original Constitution fleet (with Robert April in command of a USS enterprise) before the USS Enterprise that was built and commissioned in the 2009 film. Sorry for the long question but I find the topic of the Kelvin and Prime timeline split quite interesting.

So, it is Jeffries and April that caused the delay in getting the new Constitutions out there to combat the new Klingon D7s and alleviate the Ares class workload (nevermind Garth of Izar) in the war? I like that story line as well as this one but the 1st having more juice vs a traditional 5 year mission. At the very least, Jeffries got starship access tubes named in his honor and April was the 1st captain of the Enterprise. Plus, the Klingons were beat. Imagination is a great part of taking stardust and making an endless something out of it. 🖖

Sorry to tell you, but Axanar and the Ares class ect are fan fiction! And therefore completely meaningless, with no place in Trek! The difference here is this is Beta Canon, still meaningless, but with a valid place in Trek!

The beta cannon reason for Constellations serial number, was because she was not the first Starfleet ship to bear the name Constellation. So at the time it was decided to give her the original Constellation's NCC number. This was later dropped and the Constellation Class prototype was given a new NCC number. This was not a popular decision in the fleet, so the policy was revised yet again and the English Alphabet letter designation was given there after to ships who bore the name of previous Starfleet ships. But only ships given their NCC classification would get the old registry number and new letter designation and only ships Starfleet command deemed worthy. This is theorized why Sisko's Defiant had a unique NX number and wasn't considered officially part of the Defiant line. But it may also have to do with the circumstances of Constitution class Defiants loss that denied her successors her NCC number.

Hood, Potemkin, Lexington, and Excalibur served in that exercise, all damaged with the entire loss of the Excalibur's crew, and likely the ship itself. That episode really stressed how powerful phasers and torpedoes were at that time, and how important it is for a Starfleet vessel to have its shields up.

Logically, wouldn't the hull of the Intrepid have survived? The creature the ship encountered didn't seem to do any harm to physical objects - it only drained energy. If that is indeed true, would it be logical to assume that Starfleet would have taken steps to recover the ship. Like the Exeter, she would need an all new crew, as well as dilithium crystals and anti-matter fuel, but otherwise, the Intrepid could well have survived.

No that is incorrect... As seen in the episode, the creature not only drains, but pulls a vessel in for digestion! So even if the vessel still existed with in the Amoebas body, it would have been destroyed WITH the Amoeba!

Well you were accusing me of forgetting her by saying "You forgot to mention the USS HOOD" which I didnt, as this is Just a part 1 of a series of videos... So perhaps next time ask, instead of using the word forgotten, as it implies Im too stupid to know it existed. And given the amount of research that goes in to EVERY one of my videos, do you really think Id miss something so obvious? And also, you were incorrect about her fate of the USS HOOD, as it wasnt destroyed like you claimed, merely it was severely damaged, so that wasnt even helpful! So next time just ask, say, hey is one of these parts going to include the HOOD? That way you dont offend the person who puts tremendous time and effort in to creating videos for you to enjoy!
