My father sung this for me and my sister when we were small and we all sang together. i still have tapes of us and we were like 3 and 4 years old. when my father was dying long distance my sister and i sung this in to the phone. Feb 21 my beloved sister was dying on a ER table and i sung this to her in her ear and then at her memorial, after playing the tapes of us singing together. My heart is broken and i miss her and my father so much. This song will always be so special to me.

I lost my sister and father too. I'm so sorry for your loss, I know how it feels, Hugs.

My mom has alzheimer’s disease and she got blinded both eyes due to glaucoma (eye condition). At the moment I am assisting her walking now as she is exercising, while listening to her favorite song 500 miles. She still knows the lyrics and this song makes her happy and reminisce her childhood. I love her so much. God please give her a longer and happy life .Thanks to this song!

I was 16 yrs old when I left my home for my study . And I can't go back home whenever I want. I miss every single moment & things of my hometown. I miss the air ,the grass ,the sky ,the trees ,the people of my hometown. I can't hold my tears when I remember them ,and I can't even forget them for a single moment,it's always pops up in my mind . This guy did such a good job as Lewis Davis. Then I guess he dissapeared. This movie I guess wasn’t awfully popular but He , Jack White, and others did such a great job in bringing out the nostalgia that was the 60’s to light again

First time I hear this song and it comes at a very tough but suitable time. I have been away from home for more than 10 years now (for conditions out of my control) and I might have to leave the place I spent the last years in for an unknown future. On the other hand my kids have been passing important milestones in their lives with me away. Today was one of these milestones for my daughter, and this song came up.😢

I live in Mumbai. My parents live in Dhaka. It's been a few days and I miss them so much. Once you leave you're home there is no going back. The place just isn't the same anymore. Every time you go back it's for a short while and you know that you have to leave soon.

4300 miles away from home, a Chinese from Shanghai now is living in Australia alone , I was singing this song with my Guitar group members together during the lockdown, I cannot go back and see my family because of the COVID-19.Wish all the people around the world are able to overcome the pains and hardship soon, Wish all the families get together joyously as a whole.

I have friends from Shanghai here in Cairns Queensland who arrived here to be with their parents for the Lunar New Year Festival who remain here indefinitely... possibly for at least another 12 months. I’ve never watched this movie, but when I was younger my parents did, and someone gave them a cd of the soundtrack. Every time we went on a long car ride, we would listen to it. I managed to learn all the words to 500 miles, just by listening. I actually sang it in a school talent show once, and came 3rd. My dad passed away when I was 10, and after that we stopped playing it on car rides, but it will always remind me of him and how my life was before

I absolutely LOVED this flick. It recreated 1960's New York city...where I grew up...VERY well indeed. It caught the ambience of it without being forced. And Oscar Isaac was BRILLIANT in the role. A wonderful film...in turns sad, sometimes surreal, funny, ironic and witty.

This song makes me think about a life that I never lived, and a family I never had. I miss them so much even though they never existed.

I love that not a single comment mentions the considerably big names (Timberlake, Issac, Mulligan) attached to this. The song is the hero. It is bigger than all of them. That is how real art works. It evokes the self and not some commodity or brand.

Our music teacher taught us this song when we were in 1st grade... And since then it's one of my favs. When we entered our 2nd grade, he asked us what song should we sing. I suggested this one, the whole class started booing😂 they wanted to learn a new one. But sir agreed and made us sing this song one last time, then he left the school next week. He was my favourite music teacher ever. I remembered once he said to me that i resemble her own daughter in terms of name and age(my real name isn't "owl" hehe 🦉). i hate when life get sucks

We used to sing this song when I was in Boarding school every morning. I was in 5th grade back then and it was my first time living away from home and used to feel very home-sick. It was something about singing this song with all my friends every morning during assembly that made adjusting out there so much easier. I listen to it every now and then to remember those days. I am so thankful for that time in my life and this song.

I'm a person. I woke up this morning and had breakfast and I've been doing that since I can remember. Not many people know this but I don't have any toenails and sometimes this film makes me remember a time when I could walk up the stairs and say that I'm on the second floor of my house. One day I hope to be able to walk back down them again and say good morning to my wife and 3 pet gerbils whom most of the time cannot leave their cages without moral support. I hope this story is as inspiring as many others in the comments section and shines a light in your refrigerator. Many blessings to me and not you.

I was born once. It's been so long ago now, but I still remember. Whenever I hear this song it reminds me of those moments so long ago and I was there. My family never really understood why. And now it's too late, as tomorrow has become yesterday. But at least I can always go back to this song, even if I don't know when it will be..

Listening to this song reminds me my life. I am originally from a small town called Mindat, Chin State, Myanmar (Burma). I left my home many times for my education to study in other parts of Myanmar since I was grade six. when I passed high schools, I went my hometown one time for a few weeks as a stranger in the eveys of my neighbours. Then I continued my undergradate and post-graduate for almost ten years. Then I went back to my native towns just for a week to say goodbye because I went to join a civil service work in a remote border area of Myanmar, near india and Bangladesh. I worked there for four years and while my dad and my sister passed away and I could not manage to travel in times for their funerals. I was very sad not to see their last journey. But being a good civil servants, I got a scholarship for further study in Australia for two years from 2019 to 2020. I finished my study and returned my country and now in a hotel quartine. After this I have to join my work and there is still difficult to go back home. While listening to this song , I make up my mind to quit the job because I have a lot of losses and quite travelled more than five hundred miles in my life. life is short and I shuould be at my home and work there without leaving my home and family any longer. I pray for you,mates not to leave your home and family. Wish you all the best!

I played this song in my car after watching the movie in my room cuz i absolutely love it and i wasn't even born when the song was first released. Playing this song many times, suddenly my grandma who's in front of the seat with me sing along too, she felt nostalgic. I'm so glad she's still alive and be able to listen to this song with me and this version is so much better to listen, love it!!!

This song is beautiful and the video along with it made me cry for about 5 minutes straight and I haven’t heard it for about ten years and I have special memories with it 😢

I saw this film early in 2014 and it was a while since I heard this song. It brought amazing memories.

After reading all the comments below I realise that my father do the same with us I am so happy that he is with me not only my father I thank God for giving me everything I have including my family and relations . Even though my parents are with me I cry everytime I listen to this song realising that I am gonna lose them one day . I just don't want to see that day 😭😭😭😭.
