    Beautiful cells and colors. I’ve been watching your videos and love them. I’m new to this and I’ve made a loooot of attempts but still can’t achieve the cells I want and since I’m on a budget I can’t afford the Australian floetrol nor to buy a lot of different colors. I’ve been searching online and see that the Amsterdam paints are cheaper than jo Sonja, golden, etc so I’m wondering if using the Amsterdam paints with the medium and then Amsterdam in the cell activator would work the same as any other brand? Have you tried that? So far i only see people use it with the CA and not the medium.

    Hi Daisy! Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you are giving this a go, it really is a lot of fun. You can absolutely use the Amsterdam paints with your pouring medium as well, they are universal! I have a new video coming out Wednesday where I use a couple in the medium as well as the CA so that may help you to get a visual. If I had to chose one paint brand and only one to use for this technique it would be Amsterdam, everything else is just for variety, so you’re all good! 😃💜

    Hi Jodi I went to home Depot to get the Glidden for the pillow. He sold me Glidden premium but it says interior paint and primer . It also says around rim eggshell pure white base 1. So now I wonder did he sell me the wrong paint after I said satin premium. I want to get started but don't want to open this can if it's wrong Thanks

  • @ThePaintedDreamer

    @ThePaintedDreamer

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Terry 🤗 Sounds like he sold you the eggshell instead of the satin but everything else sounds right on it the Glidden Premium base 1 in pure white (red can) but I typically use the satin. I have used the eggshell before but it tends to be thicker so I use that mainly here in the summertime when my paints tend to thin on me. If you do exchange it and get the satin don’t have them shake it at the counter. Those bubbles it creates take forever to dissipate. I’ve had to let a can sit for over a month when they do that. Take it home, open it up and stir it really well until it turns white and is nice and smooth. Yes, it will create bubbles but not nearly as many as the shaker machine and they will dissipate within a few days, especially if you put some in a smaller container and leave the gallon to sit. 💜

    When I was using the Glidden I used to use the jo sonja varnish with it but started testing other varnishes as someone couldn’t get the jo sonja and when I tested that Minwax One Coat with it the cells just super exploded like nothing I’ve seen before so I stuck with that varnish with the Glidden. It’s why I test so many different varnishes now with the bases to see which will work best. Some bases multiple varnishes will work nicely. Other bases are finickier and work horribly with one varnish and good with another. The tiles I’m really not sure on I got them at Home Depot pretty cheap they were 30 in a box for $15 or $20, something like that just standard white. 😊

    Hi Jodie - Fantastic video Jodie - very informative. Personally, I prefer the one(s) with the black CA - more contrast, but all are nice. As to your gesso problem- alcohol can dissolve gesso. Did you by chance wash your tiles with alcy before pouring. Water will also dissolve it with enough time. Maybe yours got wet at some point. For better adhesion, you could rough up the tile surface with some sandpaper, but that would make the skin harder to remove if you choose to. Someone in our group, just last week, had a video of themselves removing skins from their tiles. They first took a box knife, and scraped around all 4 edges, where the top meets the sides (just removing a narrow sliver all around). Then they simply lifted a corner and peeled the whole surface off. Took only a few seconds per tile. It was pretty awesome - as was your video here. Thanks Jodie

    Hi Kent! Thanks so much! I agree I do like the black CA with these colors best but the white does give some interesting effects. Good to know that alcohol can dissolve gesso I have a few tiles I’d like to use but they have gesso on them. These tiles I used in the video were not gesso’d I just cleaned them with alcohol first let them dry then poured over them. Those other ones where I poured over them gesso’d they were sitting around for quite some time but I didn’t put anything on them but paint. Someone else had that happen to them also so I’m inclined to think it’s the gesso mixing with the ingredients of the PM .. maybe?! 😬 ... Thanks so much for your insights, I always appreciate it! 😊💜
