50 Days of Traveler's Notebook Update + the next experiment | LindseyScribbles

Hey everyone, here's a 50 day system update! I'm loving the consistency, but ready to trial out the next stack to narrow down my 2024 purchases. I'm trying to be very intentional with what I pick up next year which means all the r&d these last few months of 2024.

I was watching your “TN accessories I love” video and when you talked about the rubber bands I thought “why didn’t I just use those vs spending $20 on supplies to make my own??” And this reminded me why. They’re too big! And get in the way. I bought some 1mm elastic cord on Amazon (about $10 but you might be able to get smaller quantities for less money at a craft store) and used E6000 glue to glue the ends together. There are KZread videos showing how to do it. I wasn’t sure they’d hold, but I t’s been about 11 months and none have split on me. And they’re so thin I hardly notice them!

I did not have a TN breakup on my Lindsey Scribbles bingo card for 2023😂 I feel like it’s the season of hard choices and auditioning, so live your truth! Or your “maybe this is my truth?”

I am learning any notebook is possible in these here parts. I just drag my deck chair along for the ride 😌

I totally get the elastic thing, as someone who lives almost exclusively in TNs. In case you want to experiment with this… i put one of the adhesive large pockets on the back of my standard TN and just slip the back cover of the insert there (without the elastic) and that problem went away. I use the actual elastic to keep the inserts I don’t write in (craft folders, etc) or inserts that I don’t necessarily use every day. Hope it helps! Love your vids and aesthetic!

I want to like the TN so much, but I really love the self contained nature of A6 leuchtturms, without the slight overhang of the leather cover... And as you said I would probably also keep purchasing new stuff if I really got into, it, their products are just so beautiful.

I have a box in my closet of TN inserts that I keep so that if the mood strikes me to go back to TN, I don’t have to spend a bunch and somehow knowing they are there is comforting. We are on this journey with you!

Sterling Ink is offering TN inserts in monthly, vertical weekly, and grid notebook inserts for travelers system users. I want to journal next year, so I'll be getting several of the plain grid inserts and a monthly for budgeting.

I just started writing in my Hobonichi at the start of 2024. I can relate to how satisfying it is to looking back at all the dated pages that are all filled in. I write in the morning after I have had my breakfast. It has become so much a part of my routine that when I don’t have time to write my whole morning feels off. Of course I keep up with about four journals but I love my Hobonichi. Thank for a great video. ❤

I feel you on journaling on a dated page! No idea why that makes such a difference, but it's why I'm contemplating building a HON into my 2024 system. Thanks for sharing your continued experimentation!

I love the idea of printing habit trackers on a sticky note! I know that Randi does like a post-it note that she just rearranges on every weekly.

Before I picked up the rubberbands and realized that they were indeed plastic, I used the extra cord included with the book for additional books which worked really well and doesn't seem to add any bulk to the second half of the insert for my TN. That might take care of one of the issues you are having. I don't think it's surprising that you want to switch things up and finding what actually suits your needs is a journey in itself.

Could you flip the book upside down so the second half is before the band.

I've really fallen in love with using the L1917 A6 Pocket soft cover versions. They are small enough I can slip one in my pocket, so I actually carry it! One book lasts me 4-12 weeks depending on how I use it (2 page per day is most common for me), but I have found that short lifespan to be freeing. By lifting that 12-month commitment, I feel more free to experiment and change.

Leuchtturm now has a hardcover B6 with 200+ pages, if you’re looking for a smaller than a A5…and a bit bigger than a A6. Those are my plans for 2024.

I'm trying the TN standard and merging rapid logging in one insert and GTD, monthly, lists, collections in the second. I hope is to think linearly in the first and non linear in the second.

I bought another tn cover earlier this year because the round clasp was getting on my nerves by leaving scratch marks on all tables. I bought it off of AliExpress and had the option of using the elastic band or inner cover slits to hold inserts. So in the end it helps with a few issues. Now I can slip in a Nolty for 2024 onto the passport size cover without altering it. Heard that you got the Nolty 1180 also. Very curious about the format you plan to put into the weekly spread. I now put transparent sticky notes on top to experiment with what I want to put into it.

what if you flip your book around once you get to the middle page, so that you're filling out the 2nd half of the insert but it still feels like the left side/1st half

What if half way through you just took the notebook out and flipped it over and upside down and then reinserted it? Then it would lay right for you

Have you tried/considered flipping over inserts and start fresh from the last page? Perhaps it'd be even better to start from both sides at the same time for different uses?

I just am not attracted to the standard size even though I am attracted to the travelers company. The passport I use as a wallet but I am noticing when I do, I try not to open it cuz it’s not as convenient lol. Maybe I use it as an actual journal or something else.

Wow, I really know what you mean about journaling in the undated TN...I agree it is more stream of consciousness, and not date-oriented. Very helpful to me, thank you!

I've been journaling in my TN inserts sideways. Unlike you, though, I have really big handwriting and I even skip lines to make more room for my loops. It is interesting to see someone as restless as I am with notebooks and planners. I have so many half empty ones! But if it helps keep me interested and organized....as long as the budget allows. :)

Turn the book upside down so you're always writing in the front half. One half of the book will be upside down. That's the only downside.
