Sometimes you just get genetic freaks of nature. It’s unbelievable to be 6’4, strong as an ox and rapidly quick. Not only that but he’s so smooth, calm on the ball and composed in every situation. VVD has the highest recorded speed in km/h at Liverpool beating both Salah and Mane who are known to be lightning fast. The guys just a genetic marvel and he’s just pure class. My favourite Liverpool player by far the mans unbelievably good

It's Gomez that is our fastest player. Not VVD. Now Luis Diaz is likely the quickest. But yes the absolute BEAST VVD is incredibly quick as well.

A completely different CB. It's a joy watching him defend, he made it look so easy. The calmness, clean tackle, speed, strength and elegant, never seen him intentionally hurting apponent players . Imagine with such body strength, he could easily end any opponent players. Maldini rightly said, Van dijk is the most elegant defender in the world. Another quality he has above the rest of the world best cb past and present, He could hit and pass a long ball from one end to another with ease and accuracy.

I love his style of defending. he truly is inspired by maldini, who once said: "if you have to tackle, it's already too late". the way vvd reads the game, his skills on the ball, his pace, his strength and how he keeps the ball after a challenge and manages to keep it in play for his team is just outstanding. for me, he is the most complete CB I have ever seen!!

Came back to this video because this man has been getting so much stick for things that aren’t even his fault. Pre ACL VVD is one of the best defenders ever. THE best premier league defender I’ve ever seen (been watching since 95). He was rapid strong tall very smart and an amazing ball player on both feet. The perfect CB

He doesn't tackle too much but he's interceptions are insane.

Looking at some of his tackle from far you say it's a foul But when the camera gets close you see the brilliance and smooth recovery

Some say Vidic is better than VVD during his prime. Naaahh.. Vidic went to the ground too easily for sliding tackles and his body seems lighter than VVD. Meanwhile, most of the time VVD just do the standing tackles to stop them. If you watch closely everytime VVD tackles opponents, his body barely moves and shaken by the impacts. It's like a giant truck sliding on the road. For me, he is the greatest defender of all time. Even better than Maldini.
