Why do I have a feeling this is better than any other voice commands?

Now all we need is to make a hologram of Cortana appear coming out on the screen am I right?

I really like how cortana learns, unlike siri. Also her answers are better a lot of times...just sounds a bit roboticy

They are constantly swapping out the robot voice with recorded bits from voice actress Jen Taylor, the voice of Cortana in the Halo video game. But it'll still be a few months before the robot voice is completely gone and everything is Jen.

0M9H4X Now I'm using the UK Cortana, I miss Jen Taylor's voice so much. The UK robot voice sounds like a shit Mary Poppins and the replacement for Jen Taylor sounds like a depressed Mary Poppins. Definitely not the type of voice I wanted but typical of an American company to think that's how we all speak.

mrcraggle Actually, Microsoft has local offices and research departments in a huge variety of countries. The UK Cortanas voice and responses are made by the UK Microsoft team. But anyway, I've never used UK Cortana. I really love some of her unique responses though. Particularly "Are you happy?" and "Tell me a story"

I had no idea about finding things near favorite locations. This is fantastic. Cortana has made work so easy for me with reminders and notes, I am actually on top of things.

I have to say, cortana is pretty badass. Still not enough to make we switch to a windows phone tho imo

Problem with windows phone is they don't have any good premium phones, all they offer is worse then what Samsung has

Pretty surprised on how well she responds to those commands , now I wish I had cortana on my LG G3 lol

Felipe Moreno I had a very bad experience with android (S3) , quietly jumped to windows phone and I am very pleased with the app selection (currently there are many BIG titles available in wp store )

DAISY! That's the first song a computer ever sang. The phone is making a reference to the song and also to the HAL death scene in 2001 a space odyssey. Those nerds at Microsoft really planted some awesome easter eggs.

WOW...Cortanaaaaa...what a natural voice!! and good catches too!!

the pronunciation is so great! also the different ways it says sentences when it's a question or when it's an exclamation. I find this amazing!

I've yet to actually meet someone who use their voice assistants. Cortana is pretty dope.

I use her alot. Though often I just write to her. If you write a request to her she will respond silently, just in text. Very nice by Microsoft.

I do. When no one is around. Since i would feel weird. Until AI can talk naturally to me like a human (not too far away). Ill just use it in private.

FrostbitexP Cortana responds to 80-90% of requests with a recorded human voice (voice actress jen taylor). Only few answers are robot voiced. And Microsoft is filling the gaps rapidly. This video is already "outdated" in a sense, because Cortana gets new voice recordings every two weeks. The last improvement came in 3 days ago.

0M9H4X No i mean talk to me literally just like a human would. I can ask complex things, even have a normal day to day conversation with it. I follow artificial intelligence a lot. Were getting close to that. But still at least a decade away.

I've only had the 8.1 update for a few days but I use Cortana a lot with my Bluetooth headset Set appointments, make calls, send text messages, get directions. Now instead of typing in a search for the nearest steak house, I just ask Cortana, then she provides directions if need be.

Wow this is super impressive. Google Now should be threatened. It's like Google Now + Siri but better. Much wow.

Dante Bradley You're only looking at the information "by voice command" and this video doesn't show Cortana at work in the background. It will actually manage your schedule in an intelligent way. The other day I had a meeting booked in a town nearby... Cortana promptly cross-referenced traffic info, my bookig and my distance, telling me I should GTFO asap if I wanted to be at the meeting on time... It also provides you information about subjects you might be interested in (it actually asks you if it's the sort of thing you are interested) and will scan news for you. I'm over the top with Cortana, even though it's still Beta.

LemmingOverlord I never said Cortana couldn't do any of that. Anything that's setting reminders to buy milk when your at a super market, or reminding you to ask something of a friend or family member when you talk to them next, has to be working smart in the background. I was talking as far as the widgets goes. I don't know how it works on 8.1 but a quick swipe to the left and I have all of my information.

What I like about Cortana is that it can respond to a command in relation to the previous command. Looks like Apple has some pretty stiff competition..... And Shazam too :O

You can also say to Cortana "I love you" she'll answer back.

This might even be better than Google Now. I'm impressed!

Makes me love cortana

I have a windows 8.1 Lumina 640 lte that came with Cortana. Most of the time she just searches the web and shows links but does not speak like the video shows. Anybody know why? I've looked into the way things need to be asked and still no luck.

Hey on your computer how do you make it that you don't have to hit that Mic button every time you want Cortana to do something?

That was actually pretty cool, I love how voice commands are becoming good enough to be useful. It is, however, sort of a bummer that it's still only profitable to develop it for languages with very large amounts of native speakers. Even though I sometimes use it whilst driving (alone), I'd look like a complete dork if I picked up my phone and started speaking english to it in public :S

@Rafa Banderas It sounds like Cortana on some pre recorded replies but when it comes to reading out information's the voice is changed to the robot like voice. You can see in 2:00 it sounds like Cortana. Jen Taylor was used for the pre recorded replies so its definitely her voice since she is the voice actress behind Cortana.

@NoMan it is her voice for certain commands but keep in mind this is beta. By the time it's gold, it will be her voice for all commands. Microsoft already confirmed they are using the voice actor.

I don't care what all the haters say. Cortana blows Siri and S-Voice out of the water. This thing is amazing. I've had a chance to use it myself and there is pretty much nothing it can't do. Windows phones are way too underrated.

Just downloaded 8.1 enjoying Cortana, but I've noticed that she does not vocalize the time when I ask. She will give me the outside temp but not the current time or date. Seems odd to me.

I think adding a sarcastic comment or a random comment in front of each answer would be cool. "err sure, give me a sec" "You really want that? Well here it is" "Alright then, here it is" It gives it a more human touch.

Here's a question. Is it just me or does "OK, Google / Google Now" refuse to work without an active internet connection? It seems to me Cortana will do the voice recognitiion on the device, while Google will actually send your audio across the interwebs and have it decoded in Googleland...?

@AvalonPhoenix Yes, but it depends on your region. In the US it is in Beta. It is available in other countries, such as the UK and China as a beta as well. In India and I think Australia and Canada it is in Alpha yet. If you change your regional settings to the US, you can get it. Be sure to do a reboot after changing it to make sure it works.

@Sommer57 Its still a BETA, not all of the lexicon is updated with Cortanas Voice atm for now..

Microsoft has done a really good job with this already! The only thing that would need to be changed in my opinion is the voice, having two voice styles is a little jarring and definitely not as nice as Siri or Google Now.

They're releasing updates weekly for this. Jen Taylor is probably spending a lot of time behind a microphone.

So far, Cortana is the coolest digital assistant there is, though beta.

@Raf31 Well the color scheme is based off of your phones color scheme. It can go from Dark Blue to Neon Green and many other colors.
