He’s mostly famous today because his tomb got buried and lost and so was still mostly untouched and still had lots of treasures and a well preserved mummy as opposed to many of the other tombs that had been repeatedly looted over the many centuries til there was little left. So his fame has little to do with how important his reign was - the fact that he wasn’t a super important ruler probably helped with his tomb being lost from history so long and thus so well preserved.

In many ways the fact that he wasn’t all that important made it easy for his tomb to get lost and thus be preserved from repeated looting over the centuries since them. The wealth of treasure still in his tomb when Carter excavated it in modern history are the main reason he’s the most famous today.

Another interesting fact is that subsequent to his early death they were not ready for a royal burial with all the artefacts required for the next life. According to the ancient Egyptian customs, burial was required within a defined time period for him to commence his post mortem journey . Typically all the items required for the journey to, and for use in, the afterlife would be acquired over his lifetime and would be crafted exclusively for him. Being just a teenager at the time of his death this was not the case, hence the collection of items allegedly belonging to others. The concept that many of his tombs contents were not originally intended for him are because upon closer inspection there is evidence of original cartouches being scrubbed out and reinscribed with his name, as was discovered on a number of items. This includes his famous gold death mask, which is believed to have been originally designed for a woman. Again the cartouche shows signs of interference and the ornamental Pharaonic beard is deemed to be an obvious after thought, as despite the exceptional overall craftsmanship of the goldsmith/sculptor the method of attaching the beard is rough and haphazard by comparison. It has even been speculated that these donated/borrowed items may have been taken from other tombs, likely those of his mother and father, it has not been confirmed or proven though - yet! A bit of trivia - without checking, off the top of your head, does the gold death mask have at the top a cobra, a vulture, or both? Due to many animated depictions in popular culture including this animation most will attest to the mask having only a cobra. If you go back and check, it is the latter option!

The reason for Tut’s coffin looking as it did was because it was thought the gods had golden skin, hair of Lapis Lazuli and bones of silver. Most pharaoh tombs look like that as that’s how they think their pharaoh (or king) would look like in the afterlife if they were good

You’d think so but his Tomb in Amarna, which was the one he actually wanted to be buried it but was exhumed and placed in the Valley of the Kings, is actually badly damaged. His name and images have all been chiseled out in an attempt to erase him from history. And just like all the other tombs it was obviously robbed in antiquity. But the real kicker is his mummy which was in such poor condition that it really doesn’t qualify as a mummy because it’s nothing but bones. This another indication of just how hated he was. He was probably given little to no embalming treatment and just basically allowed to decompose. In terms of a skeleton it’s in a good state of preservation but as a mummy it’s extremely poor in quality to the point that you’d be forgiven for mistaking it as someone lesser in status but sure enough the name of the coffin and DNA evidence proved it that the box of bones is indeed King Tut’s daddy dearest.

okay, great video content, as usual, but could we maybe give king tut at least TAN skin? especially when the people around him are dark skinned? unless he had melanistic issues (which is definitely possible) it is pretty unlikely his skin tone was that pale. there's also the fact that depictions of him from that time period show tan skin, and if he had pale skin, that is something they would've highlighted since it would be an "abnormality". sorry for the rant, just seemed weird to give him pale skin rather than dark skin.

I understand but this is actually accurate a lot of the later pharaohs weren’t even Egyptian they came more from Europe so they would have lighter skin than others in the kingdom

*His original name was not Tutankhamun. *Tutankhamun has the smallest royal tomb in the Valley of the Kings. *He was buried in a second-hand coffin. *Tutankhamun loved to hunt ostriches. *Tutankhamun's heart is missing. *One of Tutankhamun's favourite possessions was an iron dagger.

Well.. The 23 gods were markers for chromosomes. Aten wanted to become God himself. After him south and north Egypt came back together and they went back to 23 gods and thus 23 markers for chromosomes but exactly the original intent of them was lost
