    Nice mods, I’m on the hunt for cheap wood now (gold dust where I live). I’d suggest slapping a magnetic strip by the tape/pen clip for bolts/screwdrivers etc.

    I have 4 Black and Decker Workmate folding work benches. I am definitely going to take and use some if not all of your impressive work table modifications. The shelf idea is gold. I'm doing some drilling or using a router up above and I have nowhere to put down the tool I'm using so it's out of the way. The shelf will be very useful. That extended table top that clamps into the work table top is sheer genius. I absolutely have to do that one. Always run out of room on the table top working on different projects. That bigger table top will end that problem. Then the clamp on vise, a real plus when filing some metal project pieces. Really nice set up all around. I gotta get busy. Thanks so much for your great ideas. Really great video.

    Thanks for the inspiration! I've got a Ryobi workbench which is perfect small size for my projects but I was really missing a few features e.g. to keep those 'dogs' as you call them somewhere when I'm not using them, and a larger worktop to place over the base as you have done. This will be my next project. It's not too hard for a non-expert DYI-selfer and yet will make my little workbench much more fun to use and give it some extra versatility. Cheers, mate. Well done!

    Looks like the bench legs were put on facing inwards - I think if they were to be reversed the bench would have a wider footprint=be more stable.

  • @PhillWyattProjects

    @PhillWyattProjects

    10 ай бұрын

    I think you might be correct about that. The legs were like this when I found the bench thrown out. I assumed they were supposed to be like that although looking at some other benches they seem to splay outward at the bottom and mine go inwards. I will take a closer look at it later on. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • @Chris-pv2ht

    Great idea Phil those replacement wooden vice parts are expensive to buy think mines made from Bamboo. I have a original workbench over 35 years old and still going strong and a couple of cheap ones, and they rubbish even the Keter clone B&Q one broke one of the legs, so bought a Keter one same but different colour. I might have a pop at replacement of my workbench topd at some point when wood is more reasonable price, it's silly money now. CLS timber I often use, used to be around £2.38 now its £4.99 at B&Q

    Thanks Chris 👍 yea I remember not too long ago the 2x3's were £1.75. this is why I'm always on the look out for scrap wood.

  • @danielkirby3103
    @danielkirby3103 Жыл бұрын

    Good ideas and examples. I am looking for scrap wood now to replace the top on mine. That cheap MDF snapped. But the extra (larger) wood top is a great idea. Plus the holder for the dogs. I've got to keep mine foldable, as I live in Japan right now and space in my house is limited. The only thing I am thinking, is did you think of a waterfall on the sides of the main surface? I am contemplating a 2 or 4" waterfall for a clamping surface? Not sure.

  • @PhillWyattProjects

    @PhillWyattProjects

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks 👍🏻 I have since changed the top again to an Oak top as I leave it outside the pine started to cup slightly. I never considered adding a waterfall on the edge although now you mention it I think it could be a good idea.

    Was this originally the workmate 125? I like the idea of a holder for the bench dogs. Once thing you may consider is using a V shaped router bit doen the inside edges of the 2x for holding pipe and possibly the 2 "V" notches as well. From the video yours looks like a different brand than Black and Decker I got 2 of the basic workmate 125s for $12 US at Home Depot here in the states and they seem pretty decent.. I have 2 cheaper plastic saw horses rated for 300 pounds each which are nice and light weight but I can use these to replace them or just use em as a 2nd set of hands when working alone which is what these were likely made for.. Cheers for the video

  • @PhillWyattProjects

    @PhillWyattProjects

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks! This is just a cheap unbranded one that I found on the side of the road. I did think about adding the groove for clamping pipe although I rarely work with pipe so didn't bother although it's a good idea. The black and decker ones are a bit better quality that this one I would say.
