You can use yoga blocks. They are EVA foam and cost less.
Yes please make a video on the "domino killer" . I have seen a few similar products and they are rather sketchy and complex, this on the other hand looks to be a viable option for a budget minded woodworker looking in to mortis and tenon joints.

gotta say that looks pretty scary with how much of the bit is "open" and not hidden by the jig

I have one. Very solid, no racking. I hate that I cannot find a 3/8 compression bit for the smaller collet but I have a 1/2 compression. A little sketchy tho

You have to make your own dominoes. Get the largest up cute spiral bit that will fit the palm router.

@@Emang169 that's the thing, I would prefer 3/8. Technically, if size it just right, 2 dowels 1 hole 🤣🤣🤣
I think a full review on the Tianli would be good but I also think a video comparison of Domino alternatives would be great. The TianLi, Jessem Pocket Mill Pro, and the jig from 3x3 Tamar + TayTools would be a great comparison video. All 3 seem to be nice alternatives but have different strengths, weaknesses, and price points when compared to the Domino. Great content as always though. My shop keeps adding tools, many of which have come from your reviews!
Yes please, make a video about the "Domino Killer". It'll be very interesting to find out all the features and performance compared to the more expensive version from Festool or other companies.

Could you also do a review on why you have a set of handcuffs on your peg board?😅
I'd LOVE to see that Domino Killer review... I've been looking and researching for a while now and that unit is on my top 2 list!
Definitely would love to see a full review of the Tianli. I don't do the volume of work to justify the Festool domino so I am always looking for a close competitor. I anticipate, at least in the near future; something to use maybe 12 times a year, and this Tianli looks ideal, for me at least. I have THOUGHT about the Jessem alternative, but still have not pulled the trigger just based on how often I will be using it.
I bought the TianLi jig about two months ago when I saw it on Make Something's video. I've been really happy with it and so far have made a bookcase, a kitchen island/cart, and two bed frames using floating tenon joinery. I got it from United Clamps for $298 CAD ($222 USD) and it included 2x 5/16" up cut bits. I use my Milwaukee M18 fuel palm router (got it through from a deal you posted) with it--but had to remove the back cross-beam to make clearance for the battery. I also built a dust port that connects via the jig's handle and holds my vacuum over the cutting bit. There aren't instructions (I wouldn't read it anyways...) and it's a bit fiddly to setup and use, but after getting through the learning curve on the first project or two I've been really quick to set it up and have been getting rock solid results. I haven't used a festool domino before but I'm also never spending $1200 on it as a weekend hobbyist.
Adding a plexiglass cover over the spinning bit on the "domino killer" might be a cheap, easy way to add a little piece of mind.
I'll join the group saying we'd like a review!! Love the new Microjig!!!
Great video. Sewing machine lights work well too.

Great tip!
I've never had good luck with the gripper products. They never are able to push my material through the table saw blade (1.5 thick)
Another “domino killer” that looks well made: Levoite Mortising jig. The support hand position looks a lot safer. I’m on the verge of a $200 gamble on this tool.
Yes please, the Domino Killer. I have something similar that I've set up with a 6mm bit and a dedicated router. Works really well for parallel and "L" joints, especially if you use some spacers to get consistency between the two pieces you are joining. Yours may work for "T" joints if you take the handle part off and plunge vertically (Be careful). For narrow stock, I add some boards to each side and put the board I want to slot board between them. Then, clamp everything down and plunge. Dust collection is the real problem for these gizmos. Now that mine is set up, and I have the jigs for spacing and holding things down built, It only takes me triple the time that a Domino would take to set up and use, but at 1/10 the cost, I can live with that. You can also imitate tight and loose joints as well.
Hey Matt! Please make a video on the "domino killer". I am really weinging my options on the one you showed, the Jessem pocket mill pro (around $550 for all the bells and whistles) and a domino. I value your opinion and review style. Would be much appreciated 👍
Cool stuff.

😂 🤨 🫥
I've used cheap foam yoga blocks that way for years. They're great for drilling into, using as a sacrificial piece for cutting.
Love your videos! I have to laugh seeing your handcuffs on the wall...I have my cuffs hanging in my shop too!
Yes full review on the damino please...I'm bout to order it but like anything else does it work and how easy is it lol...
Great list Matt. Thanks for sharing it. Definitely would like to see a review on the Domino killer.
I'd be interested in a gripper vs gripper 2-go side-by-side shootout! On the market for one or the other, not sure which to go for
Yes, please do a full review on the substitute for the festool domino pretty sure with a little bit of creative thinking even with the thinner stock you can make that jig work
Hi love your tool reveiw just strated to play with wood worked a machine shop but want to learn more about woid work .wich wood owl tool would you think is a good one ,saw some on amazon .thank you ps love your shirts
Sawstop aside, do you feel safe and think it is good practice to be pushing a block over the top of the blade?
I would appreciate any info you could share about that Tianli router guide to make tenons (is that the right term??)
Could the tightening handle on the Tianli be modified with a hardwood handle that is maybe 6" and still allow for proper control?
EVA foam is hell on sharp edges. It won't break anything, but you don't want to cut/drill into it any more than you have to unless you like sharpening.
I would love to see a video review of the “domino killer” It looks like a great jig for those of us who don’t do wood working for a living. Keep up putting out those great videos and maybe even start posting to rumble. I hear that they are making it really easy to post your videos from KZread there.
On rulers set out like these is the accurate place to set when the ruler mark is still visible or when it has just dissapeared under the sliding guide?
Gonna get me two of the items you showcased in this excellent video...God bless

@@731Woodworks Prime just delivered the MicroGrip and slide ruler that I ordered after watching your video yesterday. I'll let you know what I think of them once I try them out...Happy Resurrection Day soon to come
Try looking for Yoga Blocks - they’re high density foam blocks as well. And they’re sold in matching pairs.
Add my vote for the full review on the 'Domino Killer', please. Your reviews are ALWAYS totally truthful and it would be awesome to see the strengths and weaknesses of this type (and maybe some alternates), versus the mortise type jigs. I would CERTAINLY like to see some American made products in the mix. Ebay is LOADED with blatant ripoffs of US made tools, such as the Morty by Woodpeckers. The bastards even use the same red anodization for the aluminum materials. ATB.
Show us more on that router/domino jig!!!!
To make the (Domino Killer) safer, replace the black knob with a strip of Acrylic about 2 1/2" wide x 3 or 4" long and 3/8" thick or thicker. Safety shield!
Yes sir id love to see a review of the mortiser/domino killer.
Please can you tell me more about your drill press fence??
I'm very interested in seeing how well the router jig works and holds up.
If you want extra accuracy get the metric one! :)
Heck yeah a video on the domino killer!!! That would be awesome
I love the Bow foam blocks for the drill press. I even went out and ordered some Yoga blocks cheaply just for track saw elevation after getting the bow. If you want really cheap magnetic lights, get sewing lights. Here’s my problem with all the “domino killers”. It’s not making a domino that’s most important, it’s the speed and ease (once you learn). If you just need to join and don’t care about performance, get a dowel device instead of a non-Domino Domino.
731 Matt, Black and white, the innate contrast, makes the the superior Benchmark®️ Rulers…
The gripper scares me a bit. Is there a chance the board kicks back, leaving the jig and your hand pushing down right into the blade? I just just push sticks now but would love a gripper anyway, just a little worried.
My band saw came with a magnetic light that I like to move wherever I need it. The domino thing I saw on make something a couple weeks ago. It's pretty neat.
Good video, I always think you have a good amount of enthusiasm when talking about tools. Which leads to good presentation. I have a magnetic light. I use it to test flat when using my hand plane. It is helpful, but I often end up using my desk lamp instead. But I like my magnetic light because it is battery powered so I can move it anywhere i need it. I will have to check out the 123 blocks those look kind of neat. I may pick a set of those up in a bit just to try them out. I think there are better loose tenon mortising options available, that is just my opinion. I am pretty sure I would not like to get comfortable with my router oriented in that way. There is woodpeckers solution (the Morty) , though I do not think this one is that good, but also knock offs of the woodpeckers solution that Amazon sells that are okay. Not super great but also they do not put your router in a strange position. Though for a panel glue up I think I would almost rather use dowels, but that is because I have a dowel max. It might be kind of interesting to see if there is a speed difference using dowels vs. using dominos.
Yes please, on full reveiw
The Gripper thing is neat I guess if you need a Garanimals pushblock.
I’d love to see a full review video of the domino killer jig! That being said, those Bow blocks, I’d save some money and just buy yoga blocks. Same material and way less expensive. Especially if you’re going to be cutting and drilling into them and basically destroying them! For $17, I’ll go to 5 Below and grab a set for $5!!!
yes I would!
Looking forward to seeing a video about Domino machines. Especially the one we viewed here today. Thanks for all that you do 😊
Would love to see a review of the mortiser! Would this fit the Milwaukee cordless as well? Also, do you make your own dominos? Thanks for the video!!
@AlbertTao

I use it with my Milwaukee M18 fuel palm router (from the deal 731 posted a while back). I had to remove the back cross beam to make clearance for the battery, I put washers in its place to keep the sled from falling off the rails. Not ideal but I haven't had any issue and have made a bookcase, a kitchen island/cart, and two bed frames with floating tenon joinery so far with rock solid results.

If you have the Woodpecker ruler, when/why would you use the Benchmark?
Would love to see a video on the domino jig!
Yes please make a video of the “domino killer.” While I agree that the running router bit near the hand hold might be a bit scary, I’m willing to practice a bit of $1000 (savings) patience.
Video on that domino killer jig plz!!!!
Domino has setting for extra room in slot to adjust to match line. Since this seems to have width of hole adjustment as well I see no reason one can do the same if needed for a crucial line up. Having said that one should be able to do those smaller pieces as well to some degree. Pretty cool little jig. I don’t see my hand ever coming into contact with bit unless you stick your thumb in there while holding. With out question would love to see full review !
Not that jig. Please review an exact replacement of festool you mentioned it is not good for narrow stick. Thanks I like your content
Great review on some very handy tools, and yes, a full review would be great

I haven't tried that yet. It's real sketchy feeling when using it by hand. A clamp is a good idea!
I am curious how dusty that laptop gets. Just blow it off with the ole compressor? Hide it when your kicking up dust? Sidenote: Definitely would like to see a review of the "Domino Killa!"
@731Woodworks

It gets dust on it for sure. Leaf blower usually takes care of it lol
Ever check out the odd-job?
I got that TianLi "Domino Killer" and found that when trying to use a 5mm bit (1/4 in shank) the mortise it made had just a bit too much slop. It was not a firm fit. The exact same bit used with 10 Minute Workshop/Peter Millard's loose tenon jig worked like a charm. I would not recommend this jig.
fun part tried to use the ,,domino killer" in german woodshop factory, but safty rules wise its forbidden to use it in german workshops now. its to dangrous and lack of dust collektion but for private use its ok👍
Def need review of domino killer.
I’ve seen the “domino killer” on a couple channels and it seems to work as advertised. Other than it being potentially a bit more dangerous, okay, potentially a lot more dangerous than the Festool domino, it does the job quite well. The downside, it takes longer than the domino and, the biggest drawback is the lack of dust control. We all know how much wood dust you get with a router. My guess, as Matt pointed out, getting a perfectly placed mortise might be a challenge, but I imagine after playing with it you’ll figure that out. You typically glue up your panels before you trim the ends, so that likely won’t even be a problem. Overall, it seems like a great cheap alternative to a domino and it’s easy enough to make your own dominoes. There’s also a pretty cool jig that makes the mortise with a drill, but it’s expensive, like half the cost of the domino once you buy every thing you need. I like the idea of the doweling jointer which drills two dowel holes. They cost anywhere from $100 for the Grizzly jointer to $230 for the Triton. There are a couple no name brands on Amazon for about $130. The problem with those is accuracy and depth of cut. If you’re making a larger project, you can use a drill to deepen the holes so the dowels are more structural. Otherwise the dowels are nothing more than an alignment tool on larger projects, perhaps a little better than a biscuit jointer. If you want a solid tool as close to a domino without spending a great deal, I think this “domino killer” looks about the best out there, although I’ve never used one. I’m just going by what a few reputable woodworkers say about it after using it. I might get one as I can’t afford the domino and, I don’t have the patience to hand cut mortises.
Go for the domino video!!

That magnetic light is actually so cool! Probably works great for filming content as well! I haven’t seen the domino jig before, I’d be interested in a full review🤙🏼🤙🏼

For the loose tenon jig, did you notice any slop or movement since the height adjustment only locks on one side?
@AlbertTao
Жыл бұрын
I had to deal with this exact issue. I tighten the thumb screw using pliers to do an extra quarter turn in order to make it tight enough so the height adjustment doesn't drift. The adjustment should really be a clamp instead of a set screw. After figuring this issue out I've been having rock solid results with it. The jig is built really well, but has room for improvement.
@homer009x

@@AlbertTao or they should add another thumb screw. Maybe with one on each side it would stay? It’s worth the extra step to have it be more solid.
Milescraft makes some grippers also. A lot cheaper.
yup yup yup, make a review video about that thing
i was going to check out the links you posted for some of these items, but i saw they're amazon links, a vile company with which no one should ever be associated, so i'll just try and find respectable links myself.
Seen several videos on the "domino killer". Like Matt said #1 that thing is an accident waiting to happen. NASTY accident. I can't get past that part. #2. Holding it exactly in place looks difficult. Not sure I can get past #1 unless there is big improvement in this category and I doubt there ever will be. No one gripes about a Domino except for the price. The thing does it's job to perfection. It is out of my price range but I 100% would purchase one if it was in my budget or I wasn't a hobbist woodworker. If I was selling furniture I'd order up instantly.
Was your piece too thin or too narrow for domino killer?

Howdy Mr. 731... I've said it before....You must have a hidden camera or something in my shop. I just got a new tool yesterday, a Drill Press. Nothing fancy. What's weird about it is that the baby brother of this drill press comes with an attached movable light. But "mine" and the bigger ones did not. So, I said to myself...Oh Well, I'll just order me one of those snake lights with a magnetic base. Literally an hour or so after I get home with my new tool. You make this post. So, where'd ya hide the camera Mr. Buttons 🤔
I have the bow feather board. 200$ for the domino killer, maybe maybe. I only have a large 2.5 hp router, so I’d have to get that in addition. Still, maybe. That’s 3-400 all in I guess. 1/3 or so of the Dom.
Yes, please how to use the domino killer.
Want to see a full review on the fake domino
I've seen 2 other reviews on the domino killer, or very similar product, and got 2 different opinions. Please do a video on it so I can decide once and for all.
I wouldn't mind a full review... I'm a rookie so dominos and dowels and so forth haven't really been mastered

Matt...Matt! I kept looking for the slide rule! We are obviously different generations here. To this ol' man, a slide rule is a type of manual calculator used in scientific work. Match a number on the C scale with a number on the D scale. Somewhere else on that confounded contraption will be the answer CxD. I never used a linear one, but had a circular (!!!) one for my high school chem and physics classes. Accuracy? +/- 5%...which is kinda scary, as my generation used slide rules to put a man on the moon. That 5% accuracy meant those poor astronauts were flying towards a 12,500 mile hole that held a 2,500 mile diameter moon. That we made it...blows me away. In all truthfulness, I have recently abandoned the slide rule for an abacus. Dust in my shop doesn't seem to affect it nearly as bad 🙄

I was thinking the exact same thing! Just found mine from high school in a box the other day. Back then the teachers wouldn’t let us use it or a calculator for tests.
