5 Ways to Represent a Function | 8.F.A.2 | Grade 8 Math 💗

In this math video lesson we will learn 5 ways to represent a function. We will represent a function using an equation, a mapping diagram, a graph, an input-output table and a verbal description or words. We will represent a function presented one way using all five representations. We will also compare two functions represented in different ways. We will determine which function out of four functions represented four different ways has the greatest rate of change. We will understand that the greatest rate of change is the slope of a linear function. We will find the slope of a function represented by a verbal description, an input-output table, an equation and a graph. We will also consider two real world functions, one represented by a verbal description and one by an input-output table. We will identify the one-time fee or y-intercept of each function and determine how much more one is than the other. Student practice is included in the lesson. Exemplar solutions are modeled and explained.
