This worked for me (the fourth method). And it was very easy to use but I couldn't use the free version and had to pay 69 dollars. I got back a lot of deleted text messages a whole year from 2016. But others were missing and were probably over written and not able to retrieve. Thanks for your video very helpful.

As long as your message is synced to iCloud and not deleted it can be retrieved.

Hi...I'm having an issue with the 3rd option... Everything so far was fine, until I got to the "wait for the device restore to complete" but it got stuck at 1 minute remaining. I never saw the 'hello' screen. Why do you think that may have happened? I hope you can help... Thank you...

If you have an iCloud backup available to restore your iMessage, you need to factory reset your iPhone. The reset process may take some time. After the reset is completed, your iPhone will restart with a hello screen. If your iPhone is stuck in the reset process, you can force restart your iPhone.

Anyway to recover the messages if I deleted them before I updated my phone

If you have iTunes or iCloud backup, you can restore them from the backup. Or you can try iOS Data Recovery (www.appgeeker.com/ios-data-recovery.html) to deep scan your device to see if your previous data is still there. If it is, you can restore them.

Maybe your messages wasn't successfully backed up to iCloud before. Then you can give iOS Data Recover (www.appgeeker.com/ios-data-recovery.html) a try.
