My urologist, a kidney stone specialist at Duke University Medical System prescribed for me a potassium citrate medication. There are several forms of this, a large pill and an effervescent tablet called Effervescent-K. He said that research data indicates a TEN FOLD decrease in kidney stone formation rate. The mechanism for this strategy is twofold: alkalinizing the urine pH and increasing urine citrate concentration.

Thanks, as always. Did I understand you correctly? That taking calcium citrate is a good thing? I eat a lot of dark leafy greens (especially spinach) daily but I also supplement with 150x2 daily calcium citrate. (I am osteopenic.) I have cut back on the supplements but your video makes me think I should now go back to 300x2 daily!!! So, calcium citrate: good or bad?

Thank you. My 24 hour urine calcium is over 500 and my ph is low 5s. PTH is normal and blood calcium normal. I would prefer not to take medicines like thiazides. What are possible ways to raise my urine pH and my urine calcium in addition to lower animal proteins. Does potassium bicarbonate help? Thanks for any other suggestions Doctor.

Could you tell us, what food(s) are high in calcium for diet in order to bind the oxalate calcium in our guts, Doc? What about peanuts, tofu, tempeh, and chicken eggs, are they dangerous for making kidney stones? Would you please tell us the reason?
