Out on a walk in Collserola, I stopped and recorded a quick reflection on 5 aspects that successful people keep top of mind.
Hi, I’m Conor Neill, I speak and write about Persuasion, the art of Moving People to Action. I have the privilege of being father to two great little daughters. I live in Barcelona, Spain.

Very nice conversation on Five elements that have to be internalised to become successful.. Performing with 100% potential is possible through intense focus on the job without being distracted; working on while keeping in mind with long term perspectives, cultivating discipline of forming smaller habits, loving the work and ensuring long lasting partnership and relationship, Thank you so much Conor sir for this beautiful learning video. I so appreciate all five tips: my top 3 the time horizon and oak tree speak to me as well... the small habits.... so true and so easy and so often people resist (mystifies me) and finally George Leonard’s “Love the Plateau”.... I have definitely given up because of feeling fear or disdain from the plateau. Reminds me a little bit of James Clear in “Atomic Habits” advising us to fall in love with boredom... new to me! Thank you for your reflections, Conor. I’ve watched three times this morning. 😊

Thanks from Japan for another great video. The five things you talk about seem to point one important doctrine. “Believe in yourself and let’s keep marching on.” To do so, we all need good relationships, a good sense of our time horizon, good small habits, etc etc. I look forward to your next video.

Nearly 3 months ago I was unable to do even 2 proper pull ups. But I decided that I am going to do 2 pull ups each week day for 2 weeks with rest on Sundays. After 2 weeks I increased 1 pull up, that is 3 pull ups each day instead of 2 for two weeks. I kept repeating this and right now, after nearly two and a half months I am doing 10 pull ups.

I’d like to add some additional/complementary reflections to your message: Introspection and self-understanding is absolutely key, as you mention in some way. As a consequence, this leads to not needing to trust the environment and circumstances to succeed, but just simply trusting yourself! Thanks for your inspiring video, Connor, as always. /Here your ex-IESE pupil ;-)

Inspirational video as always Conor and I always learn something from your talks. Life in Barcelona looks highly desirable, you look happy there! I feel transformed on sunny days and do a lot more work. I'd be successful if I'd lived my life in a sunny place, clouds, rain and cold bring me down and gave me arthritis. We've had several days of sunshine and clear blue skies countered by a cold Easterly wind here in Ireland as you may know. Unfortunately the Globalist elites carried out their usual geo engineering today using military jets and the sky now has a lot of fake cloud in it. Today was forecast as being the last day of the sunshine, so probably a cloudy day tomorrow.

Hey Conor, I am always watching your videos, but never dared to leave a comment. This topic, however, intreagues me. As someone working in an ever changing field (software engineering), it's becoming increasingly hard to stick to any technology for more than a few years. Of course, concepts don't change that frequently. I found it interesting, because I see myself as a generalist. I completely agree with everything that you've said, but I have some trouble implementing it to fit my case. I wanted to check with you, whether you know some people who are successful with generalist (mediocre) trait? I am grateful for all of the lessons that you've shared. Wish you the very best, M.

Success - depends on what that means for each of us. In public speaking you get paid for expertise, you get invited back for delivery - competence in solving a very clear and painful problem is what allows you to generate greater income… but maybe that’s not what you enjoy.

Thanks for that. I did notice that in some cases progress is quantised and after stagnating for sometime and a lot of frustration, everything starts to fall in place and one jumps to the next level of mastery. One question I would have about loving the plateau though is, how do we know/recognise that we are on the way to progress ?
