I absolutely love Mapperton, but especially you two; that you both are in charge of it. You are a delightful couple, and completely natural, and honest. There are people who try to be funny, but you two are just NATURALLY funny. Also, very informative in an equally natural, relatable way. And of course the same can be said about Luke's parent's, who are treasures as well. Luke, yes I can imagine how you must've felt contemplating taking on Mapperton and it's many challenges; however, you struck gold with marrying Julie. The ideal partner for you personally, as well as being your co-partner in all things Mapperton. Lots of love to you both. Thanks for your wonderful Mapperton channels. Luke's callout to Julie was so sweet. Interesting how Alberta brought an infusion of money when it was needed and Julie brought an infusion of ideas and energy. A house like this is an enormous responsibility - so easy for it to become a burden - and you two seem the perfect team to meet its unrelenting demands in a fast changing world. Lucky Mapperton!

Most UK churches are maintained. Mapperton church is unusual because it does not have a village or town to help sustain it. The Church of England has 16000 churches and 44 cathedrals, many of which are very old and very large. The church in my town was built around 1486. And the church in the next town has an amazing set of medieval glass which dates from 1500 to 1517. Mapperton has some medieval glass too. It is quite mind boggling to think of 500 year old glass.

I think Meta-Mapperton is actually a really interesting idea. With the technology right now, it would be limited to "walking" all over the estate, but as the technology develops and becomes more tactically immersive, you could include things like virtual weddings, were people get married virtually. This would be especially welcome for people who have family and friends all over the world--they could all attend, even great-granddad who lives in that small town in the mountains, and could never have attended otherwise. :) VERY neat Luke!

When I was growing up, my aunt was a good friend of an Earl. Tragically his eldest son died fairly young and because of primogeniture the estate was lined up to pass to the grandson. My aunt's friend passed a few years ago and I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for this young man who had the running of the estate put onto his shoulders at such a young age. He didn't get a chance to enjoy that part of life where he could just be himself before taking on the running of the house. Of course he's lucky to have grown up in a privileged position, but there are significant down sides in that he couldn't just go have a career of his own, the estate is like a boat anchor on him that way

Thank you so much for putting these ideas out. I think what you are doing it is wonderful. You are bringing the picturesque English countryside alive again, which used to be so important in the past. If you rewild your lands from farming.

Second comment: the rewilding project is extremely exciting, and something that has been dear to my heart here in the US since the late 1990s, when I launched a national magazine called Wild Garden, which helped people understand how to repopulate and re-landscape their properties with native plants that support wildlife. Kudos to you for this project, and I hope other manor houses in the UK will follow suit!

That's a piece that previously might have been overlooked (amid 20th century promos of tours/cafe etc.) and I'm delighted to hear Luke and the historian of Mapperton wanting to give exposure to nature such prominence in the estate's future. I'm most definitely following the rewilding process. (We're doing a small bit of it on our suburban lot.) Here's hoping this concept stays on trend as long as the manor house tours have done.

Though there were impressive aristocratic era's lived in this amazing historical estate, what you two are doing to revive, repair, and share it's history and make it self-sufficient is nothing less than miraculous. Together, you are a natural dynamic duo, and it clearly takes a great deal physical, spiritual, mental, and toll, with the weight on your shoulders. OR do any of them stand out as eagerly looking forward to carrying on with their own visions? You both are doing a fabulous job of it and I can't help thinking how your "prior lives" and interests were better preparation for Mapperton than you might have imagined.

That was good. Reminds me of how most people's lives will always have constant challenges with temporary moments of rest and relief, and how we have to find fulfillment in the midst of challenges. I was very surprised Julie is a yoga instructor, I think most people would have imagined a much calmer type of person, not that you should be, but another reminder of not to prejudge a book. People's lives have fascinating experiences when you dig deep. Best wishes.

Roflol! I knew as soon as Julie said in the beginning that she was going to reel Luke back in, that it would be funny lol. 😁 I have to say, I was one of those in the beginning that just loved the tours and historical information that Luke's parents provided.

I think that unless you are also going to be inheriting a vast fortune with an estate like that it would probably feel like a burden. I’ve watched a bunch of shows from the UK about people who own homes like Mapperton and even ones a lot larger and how they have had to get creative with ways too make money to keep the places going like opening them to tourists and opening their homes for events like wedding and corporate events etc.

Luke and Julie: Just delightful as always. Julie, I remember following you when you had, I think 3000 followers. I always looked forward to your channel. Your smile, your energy and your positive outlook on life got me through many challenges during this horrible pandemic. I love your yoga sessions and I love your cooking sessions. Of course, your tours of the estate was amazing! I remember your episode about the doves. I joked and said, "Do you want some Canadians pigeons because they are "pooping" all over in the barn," and I didn't like that for the horses. You responded, about taking the pigeons. I loved it, thank-you for your kindness and joy. The pandemic has delayed dreams, but it will never destroy dreams. We will rise above. One day I will visit you at Mapperton. God Bless. ❤❤❤

So grateful to you both for letting us peek into your home and lives! Living in a historic manor house is my idea of a fantastic way to spend your time; raising your family, restoring the house and grounds, and especially the rewilding projects! Wow, just WOW! Sharing that literally with the entire world is almost beyond comprehension. But thank you SOOO much! The room with that fireplace, the paneling, those floors, that rug! I am swooning here! What can you tell us about that paneling? It looks like it is Tudor era, yes? The fireplace mantel? The significance of the ornamentation? How does one care for that wood paneling? My eyes are telling me that it needs 'wood food', or oiling... can that be done? The flooring... oak? SO many questions! Maybe you should have an internship program with volunteers to learn how and actually DO some of the work! I'd volunteer in a heartbeat, except for my 16+ year old cats who cannot be left even overnight! Eagerly awaiting your next posting on rewilding progress, now that spring is upon us. When do your gardens bloom for optimal viewing? How is the pool sealing coming along? How are your children preparing for their future at Mapperton? OK, I'll stop now!

If I may, during the Regency, Georgian and Victorian era, I believe grand estate tours were not so uncommon among the gentry at the very least. Those tours almost always included a general view of the 'open' rooms of the house, but it also frequently included a 'must see' garden and wilderness tour of the visited estate. (At the very least, I think so- Wasn't there)

Love Mapperton and you are a very special family. It has become so much harder for everyone to keep going and can imagine how difficult it would be living as you do. The larger the more responsiblity and expense that is encountered. I would love to be able to do alot for you to help, if it were possible. I live in America (NYS) and so it is different, and my husband and i live in a smaller viillage in upstate NY. We do own a home, and are senior citizens. I have such a love for the lovely larger homes and just wiish when young we had the money and thought to move to Europe to live. I love the fact you have so much history. Love your chapel as well. Just learn so much by the questions and the tours around the home. It makes me feel part of this family in some way. Thank you for continuing on and doing so much to keep shariing with all of us! So glad you found the You Tube to joiin and get involved in one other way to make some money to help keep everything going. I think you enjoy meeting us, and we certainly are so glad to get to know you! ( What a lovely futuristic idea you now have LOL) A little over my head, but think I get the jest of it? lol *we somehow show up there with you, out of no where!* lol Yes Julie does do a wonderful job, but we love you both! (Your parents as well, they do such a wonderful job when on camera) TY * wish I would be alive in 20 more years and then we could take part in the 'new ways ' of joining in!*

The Meta Mapperton idea is so interesting. KZread channels already are enabling people to learn all about each other. And then virtual visits are even better and develop a really strong purpose in providing people with things and places they would never see otherwise while continuing and enlarging the purpose of the big houses. It's a happy idea. A win, win, win. And takes Mapperton successfully into the future.
