5 tips to reduce food waste

Ғылым және технология

Reducing food losses and waste is essential in a world where the number of people affected by hunger has been slowly on the rise since 2014, and tons and tons of edible food are lost and/or wasted every day.
Food loss and waste undermine the sustainability of our food systems. When food is lost or wasted, all the resources that were used to produce this food - including water, land, energy, labour and capital - go to waste. In addition, the disposal of food loss and waste in landfills, leads to greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change. Food loss and waste can also negatively impact food security and food availability, and contribute to increasing the cost of food.

I know that simplifications are required to help engage people better, but are these really the best 5 tips based on the actual problems? First, buy local. Sure, 18% of food is wasted by consumers, but between 40-60% of food is lost between farm to fork due to the distance of supply chains. So, buy local. Second, buy ugly (and in bulk). you say not to buy in bulk, but why not buy bulk responsibly? Buy the stuff that is on sale due to "expiration dates", learn to can, or simply juice all the ugly fruit that is going to be tossed Third, buy only what you need for 2-3 days, particularly leafy greens and other highly perishable. It's greens and fruits, not grains or proteins, that are the most wasted or lost, so if you can buy for a couple of days or at a minimum some portion as pre-ripened, you will waste a LOT less. Forth, store what you buy properly. Put your ripe avos in the fridge (once ripe) to extend their lives a few more days, keep your apples away from your bananas, etc, etc,. Fifth, clean your plate, take home leftovers, eat your leftovers, and create a compost (as a last resort).

It is SHOCKING the amount of FOOD that is thrown in BINS in England when that Good Food can be donated to The Women's Refuge, The Homeless People, The Poor and others.... BUT they would rather throw Good Food in the Bins... God Watches You All as you throw Good Foods in the Bins... 🙏💚💛❤️🙏
