6 Ways to Avoid Food Waste and Save Money!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

6 EASY ways you can avoid food waste at home and save money!
I'm so passionate about ending food waste. It seems criminal that people are going hungry when globally 1/3 of all the food produced goes to waste!
In the US, we waste 40% of all our food - that's nuts! Food waste might seem like something small, but it adds up to a massive… and I mean MASSIVE impact. (NRDC)

I’m a composer too. I keep food scraps in a plastic bag and store in the freezer until i have a full bag; i then haul that outside to our large composter barrel.

I just started my compost! I used two large trash cans and put holes in them. Sooo much info on the net about what you can and cant put in (no orange peels etc?) But I'm throwing basically anything that's not meat or dairy in mine.... seems to be okay... LOL 🤞

You should be very careful about eating sprouted potatoes, the poisonous substance that can be found in green potatoes can also be found in sprouted potatoes. Remember, potatoes are in the nightshade family and can produce deadly poisons!

Exactly, I wanted to write the same. I read a long time ago on a German website for sustainability (I from Germany, that's why the website is German 😅) that for a small potato two or three sprouts are still fine to eat and and for a big potato four or five are still fine. As long as the sprouts are not too long and the potatoes are not soft. I always follow this rule and never had the symptoms of a solanine poisoning.

Even if a third of the apple is brown I just cut it off 😆 I've never gotten sick yet! I also love shopping the discount grocery store and buying all the expired foods that nobody else wants

That's amazing! We need more people who aren't afraid to eat slightly browned food. There's waaaay too much value put on "perfect looking" foods...
