Tip for fighting art block, an artist's worst nightmare : today I went shopping with my mom and sister for the first time in a while (Of course we were wearing a mask and social distancing.) And I saw a bunch of pretty sandals and it made me feel inspired. When got home I looked on Pinterest for an outfit that could match, and I started sketching. Moral of the story: if you feel uninspired, get out of your house and go somewhere. It can be your backyard, a shopping center, a library, a family/friend's house, etc. And you might get inspired to draw again.

I went to an animal shelter today with my grandma we were looking for our stolen puppy but while I was there I saw families of puppies it was adorable I really feel like drawings dogs and people now so yeah it's true get outdoors and look at nature it helps!

I have been in such a bad art block lately. Like, lowkey crying because I found creating anything miserable. This has inspired me to perhaps start drawing my stuffed animals, they’re simple shapes and most are bright, fun colors. Not something I usually draw, and it’ll be neat to mix up what supplies I use. There was a specific thing I wanted to draw but I didnt want it to look bad. When I heard you say "draw any fun thing you're thinking about like a shark with freckles. Draw it" it make me realize that I should do that. I had a specific idea but was limited because of how exactly I wanted it to look. But I decided to add whatever I was thinking and it looks so good

I’m really happy with how confident you were throughout this video. I’ve noticed most of the time you typically will say “but what do I know?” Or “I have no idea what I’m talking about” despite creating art for literal years and being an amazing KZread channel that a massive crazy amount of people follow and love. I loved all your advice and the process you went through. 😍

Its like tht one friend who had a pretty rough life but has a sweet heart tht want to help you from doing the same mistakes she did before.

When I'm trying to motivate myself to draw or write I can usually get myself motivated to start by reminding myself that archeologists don't look through blank sketchbooks, historians didn't learn about the artists that never tried, and no one can read a book that hasn't been written.

Any artist can get art block, no matter what kind of art they practice. I've got this quote from the Ba Da Bean episode "Blocked", about York telling the main character how to deal with art block: "Don't fight the block, just *be* the Block, dude. You know, having some leisure is part of the artist's life. It took me years to figure that out, it's a tough lesson for dedicated people like us. I have been a silent watcher for a while now. But now, I must admit that this is one encouraging (motivation to draw), relaxing and comforting art channel I have come across. Rin has a very sweet voice. The way she talks and expresses herself through hand movements is lovely. Her art style is just as lovely. Both writing and art are my hobbies and I hope to grow my skills with them into something I can be proud of

Usually what i do is kind of like the “reference but abstract” where i go to Pinterest, find something i like, and try to recreate it but in my own style or add things like “ohh this needs some piercings” or “ohh this might look better with some flowers” ya know? Another thing is where i find something i cant draw well and practice on it, maybe i cant draw a specific pose right, then i take that pose and practice with it until i can get it right but if i cant, i just go back to the first tip and add my own mix. Hope this helps!

another tip for art block: don''t erase too much! i understand that sometimes you feel really uninspired and unmotivated by something youve created, but sometimes its just nice to stop caring about how your art looks and just go with the flow. like waffles said it gets really fun after a while if you start from basically nothing and keep building up to something that may reignite that spark of joy that art brings. if you erase every tiny itty bitty thing, at least for me, it gets really boring and im not even having fun anymore. so, art isnt about being perfect. its about something different for each person, whether thats having fun, relaxing, expressing how you feel through art, or something else.

Another fun little idea: get a pen, marker, fineliner, whatever you can't just erase and draw some scribbles on the page and try to make something out of them, maybe you'll get an idea for a drawing and even if not - it's still a fun creativity exercise

I like to do this with friends. Everyone draws some squiggles on a page and you trade papers. Then try to turn their squiggle into something. I've seen people do this with their kids. (I used to have my creative writing students do something similar. Each person writes one sentence and then passes it to someone who adds to it.)

this video really made me cry. I used to enjoy so much drawing, but with time, I started to take it to seriously at the point where I wanted to make it perfect and the way I liked at the first try. Her passion for art really got me, the fact of how much she wants to help us, means a lot to me. I'm going to start my journey again, but this time with her in mind. Thank you. My english isn´t that good, apologies.

One of my favorite things to do is like take a piece of artwork and then make a story with that artwork and like many different ideas will come from the story they kind of just support each other

"And any fine-toothed comb!" I am now fighting off art block by painting with a comb!

I DID THIS IN ART CLASS!!! we did abstract paintings, and there were options to use combs, brushes, sponges, stamps, literally anything that comes to mind. If you want to try that, i recommend it! it helped me get out of my art block and its so fun.

As a writer (and a artist whenever ive got nothing better to do) I can tell you I do most the stuff in this video mostly when I have writers block half way through my chapters of the books I write on wattpad

I got a big art block because of school. Being pressured to produce art made me resent it in a way i guess? Ever since i started watching your videos again i draw a lot more and it makes me so happy. Start with a wide-topped rectangle for the torso, add a square for the head, and go from there. That's how she do. Just let the pencil go where it will for the arms, unless you have a specific idea for a pose, but maybe since you're doing it as a first try, copy one of her poses.

I think the fact that it’s obvious that you do it just for the joy is why I love your channel so much

This actually helped me a lot! I never really thought about it but whenever I draw I always have this expectation that it has to be good, and when it looks bad I get discouraged. Just drawing for the sake of having fun and not worrying about the outcome is so freeing, and makes it feel that much better when it does actually come out nice! I've also been weirdly apprehensive about what art supplies I use in my sketchbooks, but you convinced me to try out new ones and I'm so glad I did! Thank you, your videos always cheer me up!

There's nothing that brings me more joy than a Waffles upload. (But also as someone with art block right now, this spoke to me. Pulling out my big supplies now!)

I used to watch u when I was younger around 8-9 u were actually my fav KZreadr and my inspiration. It's interesting, I just got ahold of an art supply the other day that I had been wanting to try out for quite a while. I hadn't really drawn in a bit, but just starting and drawing a frog (I really enjoy drawing frogs) was enough to keep me drawing for the next few days. Progressively it became more and more something I began to enjoy again.

I can’t even describe how much this really changed my perspective. I’ve been drawing for years, why has this only now been made aware to myself? I think I have had this idea that i have to be good at everything and know how to do everything. It’s the perfectionist in me, y’know? But actually having it be said out loud that, that doesn’t have to be the case, is really inspiring.

I would highly recommend Wreck this Journal for art block or just in general. Really allows you to let go and just be creative. That’s how I got over a lot of my art fears.

I used to watch you literally all the time like 2 years ago.. I guess i just drifted from any sort of drawing vids and many other channels, and i was bored rn so i came to KZread, saw you on my recommended. Watched your video. And became UNBORED quickly. I just got straight to drawing and watched all your recent vids. Two years and i still need you😅

Well Rin, you offer up some sound and critically correct advice! Wise beyond your years is a term that I am sure that you have heard before. I have never really been “art blocked” before, I have been stumped for an idea on realizing how to bring a client’s idea to the page but that is not the same thing. I have heard many different ways to overcome this crippling thing called “art block” your video is just about perfect for this subject. I hope your doing well and enjoying your day. This is honestly perfect timing. I’ve been suffering from art block since the 24th of may because I had broken up with my boyfriend of 5 years. I thought he was the one for me but I noticed some red flags and as I thought about it they had always been there. But thanks to your video I was able to draw something ^^

I loved your video! Your voice is also fun and you have a great intonations and humor involved. Thanks! You’ve helped me! I’m gonna go goof off in the sketch book. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that usually art loses it’s fun when our expectations for our self are unreasonable or high, or we’re focused on really detailed accurate art. Or we want to do something that we think others will think is valuable or good. These kind of are limiting thoughts. Thank you for helping set my mind free and my inspiration soaring again.

I had a lot of fun, I drew like a bunch of V’s kind of like going outwards. I used a bunch of sharpies and now I am just doing a whole page of it!

I cant explain in words how much I love Waffles art 💜💜

I started drawing a thing I've never drawn, then the real thing awhile ago, because of you Waffles, and I freaking love doing that. It's so fun and it not only makes the first thing look SUPER derpy, it also makes it feel like you've improved SO MUCH in such a short amount of time haha. Technically you have, but really you just went from doodling in imaginary thing, then drafting an actual image from another image, if that makes sense. Either way

This is so... cute and joyful. These videos usually don't work for me, sometimes they just tell you to practice your way out feeling bad about your art, which can work for some people but just frustrates me. You sounded so happy making this I just had to watch it all. I think the last tip was exactly what I needed to hear, but I'll be trying the others as well! Thank you!

Recently I couldn't draw anything just because I felt so trapped under my own pressure, but I've been watching some of your videos that I hadn't seen and it helped me so much. And then you realised this one which is exactly on why I wasn't drawing and that ALSO helped me a lot ahah. Just wanted to say that you're really a great artist I love your style and how much you manage to make everyone want to draw things they never would have believed they were capable of doing. Each video just feels me with motivation like "wow I could try that, it might look good !".
