5 TIPS: Managing Bipolar Disorder Mania & Hypomania!

To contact me directly and get answers to your questions, join me on Patreon: / polarwarriors
There are many different ways in which people experience "Bipolar Mania." Some of us enjoy it, while others find it to be a very destructive force in not only their lives but those around them.
The way we experience mania is actually the primary factor in diagnosing someone with a specific type of Bipolar Disorder. Countless people end up being misdiagnosed because they fail to see the mania as a problem or they don't mention it to their doctor. If someone who has Bipolar Disorder is misdiagnosed with general depression, it's common for them to be prescribed a single antidepressant - without a complimentary "mood stabilizer" medication. Treating ONLY the depression can add ROCKET FUEL to the mania, so it's extremely important to not overlook this symptom.
When certain types of mania get out of control, it can lead to risky behaviors like reckless spending, sexual promiscuity, an increase in substance abuse, extreme agitation, a complete lack of clarity or grandiose beliefs, and so much more. Also, as many of us know, a manic episode can result in an equally intense period of severe depression (or a "crash") after the "party is over" so-to-speak.
In this latest video from Polar Warriors, we're going to discuss 5 helpful tips for managing mania while cultivating a better sense of self-awareness!
As always, a very warm welcome to Polar Warriors and I hope this video helps you on your journey. If you have any questions about Bipolar Disorder and would like to contact me directly, there is a link at the top of my videos to join our Community on Patreon. In addition to helping me reach more people who need help, you will have first priority with my response to messages, access to additional videos which aren't on KZread, and even help choose future video topics!

My goal is to provide actual tools, tips, and discuss topics that can potentially help “Polar Warriors” grow to live a more balanced, peaceful, and fulfilling life.

That moment I realize when my legs are rythmatically bouncing while sitting, and shaking everything in the room is a sign my MANIC-SELF is finally waking up again. I love it because this is when my creativity, production and organization skills kick into high gear! The downfall is when my manic-self goes back into chill mode, I am then stuck with a bunch of projects in action and I cannot relate to - or find interest in any of them. NOTE TO SELF - When manic do not make too many commitments. great vid!

Wow! Same here! I thought my bouncing leg was my ADHD. It is always there, not just when I head into hypomania. My husband says, “You’re not sleeping?” Trying not to look worried, bless his heart. Lately I’ve been trying to clean up some of those projects you’re talking about, but I’m in a bad depression and this seems to make it worse.

You wana know something funny? I realize I’m starting to become manic when I watch your videos and start to think that you talk way too slow for me. I even get irritated at it sometimes lol. I started to make the connection a while ago. When I’m not manic this isn’t a problem for me at all and I think you speak at a perfectly normal rate. I’m currently hypomanic now. I logged into KZread to view your channel like I usually do and started noticing it again. Thanks for walkways sharing information that helps us recognize and manage our symptoms.

its funny but I was keeping a journal while I was in a long hypomanic episode, reading back at some of the stuff I was determined to do but thankfully didn't have the money. I was convinced I wanted and needed two tattoos, one on each hand and two eyebrow piercings!!! I have a super small tattoo and hardly sat through that! Its good to have the journal to remind me.

When i get mania i sleep less and have more energy. Talk fast spend money and want to go out more, DRINK was a big one which made all worse. I’m watching this because I just realized that I’m in a manic state. I have been denying it for many years and saying I just have anxiety. Today I found myself talking fast, mind spinning, body vibrating so much energy that I can’t slow down. I came out of a depression about 6 weeks ago started acupuncture eating healthy exercise and things have been so good but now I’m spinning. I’m trying to be proactive and do something different so I don’t get so down when I crash, but that made me realize how up I am. I don’t want to ruin my life anymore and I don’t want to run myself so ragged. I’m trying to implement healthier coping skills. I need to break this cycle or at the least lesson the damage. Thank you for your video 🙏🏻

Insight beyond your actual words: “So when I first started making this video, I was going to talk about 10 different tips for mania, but this topic is so in-depth I didn’t want to rush information and make it too much to digest in just one time...” One aspect of mania is making our “lists” too long - too many projects or one project so big we cannot achieve it or too many big projects altogether. One frustration in working with others is their expectations that we can keep up the pace we set when we are manic/hypomanic - making the mania and depressions worse. On the flip-side of that, are the people who feel we are unreliable because of past lists not completed. Your cutting the list shorter, whether for length or too much information, demonstrated a restraint we all need to learn. The awareness of knowing (and implementing) when to cut back is key in managing our mania, and by default our lives. Peace comes with balance, balance comes with discipline.

I stopped taking my meds immediately because I felt better and I also didn't meet my psychiatrist again. But a month later, I got so depressed, almost dropped out of college when I already finished all classes and only had to finish my thesis. Last week I went to psychiatrist again, and told myself that I'd take my meds everyday even though I might feel better. And I'll also take therapy sessions frequently. Fortunately I finished my thesis and will graduate in August. It's also because of the support from my thesis advisor who has clinical depression, and her sister also has bipolar disorder. So she understood what I was going through.

Hello Rob thank you for insights on manic spending. This has been a definite stumbling block in my recovery I currently am getting some much needed help and guidance with this area. You even covered how tricky it is to pace oneself when manic. It can be hard to come to grips with having to slow down when more than one area of life is out of order. That's the most challenging thing for me to do when mania has the wheel. I have had problems with going to fast and then making mistakes for years. Your videos are indeed helping me look at this behavior with less shame and more importantly with greater caution than in past years.

Was diagnosed bipolar almost 2 years ago after dealing with symptoms for nearly a decade. Found one of your episodes and have been binge watching your videos all night long. It’s been difficult to find materials or information about bipolar and coping with manic/hypomanic or depressive episodes that isn’t cold and separated medically based that is written, or being delivered by, somebody who has no personal experience with the disorder. Things I’ve read or heard 100+ times is so much more obvious to see or finally something I can understand coming from a familiar perspective and with anecdotes or examples that I’ve experienced or felt. I cannot express how amazing your channel is and the impact it’s already had on me, as well as so many others who’ve found your channel. Thank you for your videos. 🖤

Excessive spending and impulsive actions leading to embarrassment and regret. Pretty much sums up my life. I'm glad i found this channel and i hope i can one day get some help. I wish i found this channel 1 week ago. I had no idea what manic even ment. I just assumed that was for "crazy people" but now as i slip back into depression i realize i wasted all the time when i was feeling good chasing the wrong things and doing things that were against my values and that i knew i would regret. I can't afford any medication or therapy but i will seek them out as soon as possible. I always knew i was depressed but this channel is making me realize how much i enhance it unknowingly..

I stopped drinking a year ago. I can't say I feel any less manic but I don't go out until 5am then neglect my family and sleep all day any more. I know I'm feeling manic when I watch videos like this. A couple of months ago I convinced myself that I was in the top 3 percent of the population for intelligence and there was no point trying to talk to people because they couldn't comprehend what I was saying haha. I walked out of my job then argued with anyone who questioned my decision. I don't regret that but I could have handled it better! I've been manic for ages this time but it beats depression. I would describe it as having limitless self belief and energy with one profound, life changing thought after another. At first anyway. That's quite enjoyable in a way but it usually means I haven't noticed. Those profound thoughts keep coming but instead of hearing them one by one it's like having a hundred thoughts all at the same time and I can't hear any of them.

My boyfriend has bipolar, and he will be fine with me one minute but the next he will switch, I’d have “acted different” or “done something” that will trigger him. We haven’t spoke properly in two days, his blanking me, reading my messages and not replying. I’m so stuck on what to do, I know people say give them space but I’m so consistent with asking if his okay and that I’m sorry.. I need help!😩

Worrying is directly correlated with exhaustion. Of course the antidote to worrying isn't worrying about how to get rid of worry- it's trusting the universe, yourself/ lessons and wisdom acquired... And I think knowing it's okay to not have all the answers, will make stupid mistakes. Life isn't a speedrun, it's a journey to be enjoyed more than fretted

Thank you for your insights/advice. I love your methods of not spending money on our current ideas. If we can only wait a bit, before we spend a ton of money we might survive. I usually take a long time before buying big things. Saving up money before we buy things is a great idea. So many of us can create so many problems in just a few days. Credit is dangerous for us. They told me that if I have a great idea, it will still be a great idea tomorrow.
