    I lost weight due to stress and noticed that my skin was really sagging, especially around the arms. It was dramatic and sudden. I thought there was nothing to do about it, then I started taking collagen. I am halfway through my first container of Vital Proteins: skin has firmed up all over my body, and it feels less thin. My nails are looking stronger, and my thin neck skin even has firmed up a bit (this may be due to retinol). I think it definitely works and am very happy; I am basically back to normal. 🙂

    How are you a vegetarian and yet take a collagen supplement? It either comes from land animals or fish - there is no such thing as plant based collagen.

    @@pickledginger4574 Thank you for asking. I moved to a high raw whole food plant based diet for my health. A vegetarian would still eat fish and eggs and dairy which I do not. I had RA and I have a genetic cholesterol defect called lipoprotein (a) which makes me susceptible to atherosclerosis. My cardiologist suggested I stop eating animal product that increase the cholesterol in the blood. It worked and thought I will never have low lipo(a) numbers - the rest of my blood work has improved drastically. I have my bloodwork run through the Cleavland Heart Labs and I check my TMAO and homosystine and they are good. My inflammation is very low even though I take the Bovine collagen ( 20g a day) with no health issues. Im 63 now - have been on this meal plan for 6 years and plan to continue. I have seen dramatic changes to my health and my motto is when you're sick and tired of being sick and tired - you're more willing to change. Have a great week

    I loved this video ❤. Anything collagen is a favorite topic for me. I religiously take my grassfed bovine collagen powder in the morning with hyaluronic acid capsules. In the afternoon i take a vegan collagen with bamboo, aloe, acerola cherries, etc. I also, on a daily basis, up my good fatty acids in the form of walnuts, macadamia nuts, flax, pistachios, avocados & salmon to assist in the process. I stay away from sugar & obstain from anything that is more than incidental sun. Both kill plump skin! & Heliocare is something I use on a daily basis. It's amazing and life changing!

    Thanks for the fabulous collagen intake tips and also the exercise component!! Just to clarify further, both HIIT (a potent stimulator for autophagy) and resistance training (for strength/muscle/collagen synthesis - due to growth hormone release, which stimulates fibroblast collagen production) are essential. 16/8 fasting will help kickstart autophagy, though in animal studies 18/6- 20/4 is when it takes off. 36 -48 hrs fast is its peak.

    I have just started using DMAE in my skin care routine. It helps with inflammation and can firm up the skin. I bought the powder and diluted it in distilled water. Last week I was school, a fire extinguisher fell off the wall when I was moving a bench. I accidentally knocked it, and the nut/knob on the side hit my index finger. OMG....it was so painful and swelled up immediately. When I got home, I sprayed my hand with the DMAE solution, and within minutes, the pain was lessened. Over the week, it has helped disperse the brusing and pain relief.

    I really enjoy watching these videos and feel they contain thorough but honest answers we can use even without purchasing a lot of things. This is why I'd love to hear Dr. Rajani's thoughts on cross-linking of proteins/collagen. I'm studying up on some health related issues regarding glycation of both proteins and lipids. I know these issues can also effect skin and this is also a concern of mine but for the most part, I'm trying to understand the fundamental chemical/cellular processes. While reading up and searching, I came across some cosmetic practices as well as NIH studies that say collagen and protein cross-linking is irreversible. That is very bad for people who have advanced glycation end products in the retinal vessels but it's very bad in a lot of different ways throughout the body. This is important for me to wrap my head around. I'm wondering if they are just referring to natural cellular processes that are unable to effect the cross linked collagen or if there isn't even a therapy yet that exists that can reverse this, even in the skin. This is where my confusion comes in and I cannot exactly find the answer I'm looking for. I feel that dermatology is making some important advancements that helps us understand more than just the skin since these types of cells hold us together, and that if there is successful treatment for this cross-linking, it will be seen in this field first because we can apply treatment to skin that we may not yet be able to apply to veins or elsewhere. I know these things are complicated but am seeking to understand what all is known about it so far. I'd love to hear Dr Rajani give his thoughts on that issue, even if it only applies to the skin.

    What do you mean? You mean it’s not good taking protein and collagen at the same time?

  • @mgh_777

    @mgh_777

    8 ай бұрын

    @@Emiliah1996 NO! lol. That is not what I'm saying. Collagen IS a protein. Cross-linked protein is something that happens in the skins scaffolding. My question stems from my recent reading on Advanced Glycation End Products, which is a very in depth issue that is being studied for many reasons concerning disease progression, not just an issue of skin. You should read up on it and familiarize yourself with the terms if you are not already familiar. I say this because it's an important area of research and it is looking like Advanced Glycation End Products have more to do with types of sugars in our diet than it does the protein we consume, although the proteins and lipids in our body do become involved when they end up as a part of Advanced Glycation End Products. The acronym is used a lot in place of the term (AGEs) and it is used often to serve as a reminder that these things are now becoming known as major culprits behind many chronic illnesses and the effects of aging itself. This is why I was asking the question. It might be something a lot of people have never heard of, but with all the things we can try on our skin and monitor the results, there may be something that could fight these Advanced Glycation End Products in Skin and if we can't apply that as a treatment for other issues, it could still be an avenue of thought to explore. I have found some things involving certain enzymes but it's too late and very complicated for me to be writing about it. It's an interesting topic. Nonetheless and I hope that answers your question. There is no reason that I know of that you'd want to avoid taking collagen and some other form of protein other than the possibility of getting too much protein but you probably already know that.

    Hey Dr! So what happens if you’re only jumping into these things at 40? I feel like I’m late to the game here but I’m now doing everything “right” I’ve got 10g of grass fed bovine collagen, all the good vitamins daily. Using a retinol at night with HA and vit c in the am with HA. I’m also grabbing some AHA and copper peptides (to use alternate to the retinol/vit c) I’ve started weight training again BUT you know I’m the skinny white woman so my face is already got wrinkles and sag 😢I feel like it hit me overnight!! I’m also upping my protein and eat pretty healthy - but I was a past Sun bather and now I hide from the sun lol 😂 anyway I’m saving up for a skin tightening treatment but was wondering if we can reverse age by building the collagen up?!? Like any other tips to tighten this (I’ve watched all your vids) I’m almost wondering if it’s just more feasible to save for a mini facelift
