I am married to a Vietnamese woman. I am from Puerto Rico. If you truly love someone....you will learn from each other.....and pretty much nothing they do will be a bother. If there is something that bothers you about your girlfriend or boyfriend....you teach each other. And adapt and make adjustments. Is not hard. My wife taught me no kissing in public. haha. But I taught her that is okay to hold hands. And sometimes holds hands and walk very close to each other. Almost like a wrap around hand holding. This was before marriage. Now it's all okay...except the kissing in public part. haha. If you love someone..you just want to be with them. No matter what.

Very spot on video. The best way to explain Christmas to Japanese people is to tell them it’s like oshougatsu (January 1st), it’s a family affair. And the other way round (from a Japanese point of view) it’s to explain that Christmas Eve in Japan is like Valentine’s Day. My husband is Japanese,I’m French, and we live in Japan but I make sure to celebrate Christmas the French way : on Christmas Eve, always at home, with beautiful decorations and lovely food (and we open our presents at midnight). It took him years to get used to it but now he expects it 😅 And NO Kentucky Fried chicken (yes, it is a thing on Xmas Eve in Japan 😳)

When it's the darkest, quietest, coldest, loneliest time of the year, we try to cheer ourselves up with an evergreen tree, bright lights, brightly coloured decorations, gifts and a feast, so we don't get so depressed that we kill ourselves. On Christmas day, we open and share gifts with our family, and we spend the rest of the year visiting people's homes and admiring their decorations and exchanging gifts with them and enjoying their hospitality, eating delicious food and drinking alcohol. We check on the people we love, and don't let them feel left out, because if it wasn't for Christmas, it would be the most miserable time of the year, sitting alone in the dark, hiding from the cold. That's really what Christmas is. Also... Easter is about sex.

If you're going to date a Japanese women, make sure you meet her in Japan. A lot of guys have met girls in their home country and dated for years sometimes, before moving with them to Japan and all of a sudden found themselves in a relationship with a person they don't recognize anymore (once they go back into "Japan mode"). At least if you meet in Japan you already know what you're getting yourself into (kind of).

Japanese females are still female. If you date a Japanese woman, you need to have a Sigma mindset and you have to WANT the relationship, but NEVER NEED the relationship. Thank you for such an honest review of Japanese cullture. I would love to return to Japan! Would it be accurate to say that the Japanese people are very 'self-concious'? My impression is that the Japanese people are under a lot of pressure to perform well. Some countries have a strong patrarchal culture as well as a 'shame based culture'. Would you consider Japan to fall into that category? I find myself wanting to say to a few of my Japanese friends as well as a Japanese sister -in -law , 'Relax'. You are loved and accepted. Be gentle on yourself.' I have loved my trips to Japan. There are many wonderful things about the Japanese culture! And, you do such a wonderul job with your presentations and teaching! You are an excellent ambassador for Japan! Cheers!

I can't really agree with this. After I started going out with my first Japanese gf in Japan, I saw her parents regularly, maybe once a week. I sometimes had dinner and drank with them. I also went to their house a few times a month. After my gf and I had been dating a few months, I even slept over at their house. She used to come to my apartment and sleep over all the time while living with her parents. They obviously knew she was sleeping with me. That relationship lasted about 5 years. My second gf introduced me to her parents basically as soon as we started dating. WIthout even having dated long, Christmas and the New Year were approaching. She invited me to stay at her (parents') house for the New Year holiday. I slept over for a few nights, spending a few days with her and her family. Once, when her parents went out, we had sex in her room. The strange thing though was that she was very concerned about her curfew. She would visit me in my apartment on the weekend, but she would always leave before it got too late. I would sometimes ask her to stay the night, but she always refused. Only one time did she actually sleep over. She lied to her parents, saying she was at a friend's place for a party that went too late, so she missed the train. However, we did take a couple of short holidays together, staying in hotels for a couple nights each trip, and she said her parents wouldn't mind about that. That relationship only lasted a few months. My third, and last Japanese gf lived on her own and her parents lived in a different part of Japan. We just started dating, then I left to return to my native country. We had a long distance relationship for a very long time. I came back to Japan for a while and we saw each other, but I never met her parents or sibling. After we had been going out for about 6 years, her grandfather died. I asked if I could go with her to the funeral and she was really shocked. She refused, and I was sad. She was surprised that I was sad. We broke up too. Anyway, those were my experiences regarding meeting family.

seven reasons why japanese doesn't make good friends AT ALL, why none/few of them are trustworthy in fact: first, they makes zero efforts to speak other languages and anyway when we try to speak japanese they laugh at our accents and they don't forgive bad pronounciations secondly, they refuse to show their feelings no matter how polite, kind and respectful we are. just because they refuse to put us in their friendship circle for some reason (in fact it's only when they get drunk, it's shamful) thirdly, they love to criticize the others in their back. they judge them without knowing them, they don't give us any chance. they don't tell our mistakes, how can we improve ourselves. fourthly , they feel the horriblenot human need to have many close little friends. Fiftly, they take foreigners like walking dictionnaries/wallets sixth, even if they do have many cultural flaws, and assume bad things about foreigners they still minds about being criticized for some reason while we do it for a reason sevently, they judge easily on our appearances while it's not our fault if we're build like that. "buuuuh tall or older foreigners=bad people cause we live in a island" i like japan, for what it has naturally, but i do not get why its locals are so well seen in the world. NO NEED TO reply me with bad faith comments like nyeh theres ppl like them everywhere in da world"

I'm from the US and my best friend/my everything is from Japan, I believe she's from Nagoyashi and we've been so close for these past several years. I really want to know everything about Japanese culture, proper etiquette and eventually how to speak the language because she is so precious to me and I want to be as respectful as I possibly can. One thing she told me that stood out the most is that when she was kind of sick, she went out and got a haircut at a salon. I asked her why she didn't just cancel and she told me that in Japanese culture it is considered rude to cancel a hairdresser appointment. I didn't know this before, that's very interesting to me and I can definitely understand this! Thank you so much for this amazing video. Learning Japanese is definitely a challenge for me it's just so different from any other language and you can not cut corners when it comes to Kanji (as I learned the hard way lol) though I'm very excited and eager to learn! 🇺🇲🤝🇯🇵

The intersting thing is, I think Japanese women who are open to dating foreigners, already expect the foreigner not to act by Japanese dating standards. They can throw all their conventional thinking out the window if they wanted to, knowing that the person they are in a relationship with is more open to atypical behavior. For example, the women I've dated while living in Japan didn't mind PDA (nothing crazy, of course), I've met their parents, their friends (within a few weeks).. but of course, it always depends on the person and the situation. Concering #3, I have a hard time getting my girlfriend to exercise, since it's not just about diet. She's not overweight, but I believe the older we get, the more it's important to have muscle mass. Is it rare for Japanese women to enjoy exercise? Thanks for the video!

the whole "ladies first" is always about putting your date/wife/loved one first, giving them priority because you want what's best for them and to show them how important they are to you. Also a man is supposed to stand when a lady enters/exits a room and sit after the lady sits and should a lady leave a table to use the rest room a man is also supposed to stand when they leave and return and wait until the lady has returned to finish her meal even if the guys food gets cold.

Being a Filipino, it's quite normal for men to treat women with care. Let them enter an establishment first, and assist them if need help. If you ride the train in Manila, there are areas dedicated for Women and elderly (usually at the front). But now, "equality" culture slowly replacing it.

Your advice is insightful and practical. How men cannot treat someone as lovely and sweet as you as anything less than a princess is beyond me. I assume a foreigner would be expected to speak somewhat fluent Japanese to be successful in dating. Could you do a video on communication? What topics should be avoided? Which are good 'icebreakers' or conversation starters?

7:22 If you are used to the smell you won’t smell it but for a foreigner Japanese people usually smell like soy sauce cuz (I guess that Japanese diet contains a lot of soy sauce, I don’t really know how much they consume it though)

This is really depressing. I just spent two weeks in Japan and went out every night trying to find trendy spots to talk to girls, and not once did I see single girls out and about. Every girl I saw was with their partner. Not a single local talked to me the entire time I was there.

I recently started seeing a Japanese girl, but she has lived here in America for 20 years. However, many of the things listed here still apply. She doesn't show affection, and I thought she just not interested. Not the case. She also smells good all the time and takes care of her body. Very clean too!

@6:25mins I think for the usage of perfume, it all depends on where u lived. I'm from Singapore, and u know our weather here is very hot and humid. So we tend to prespire alot more. Recently, i was in a public bus in Singapore, and there was this japanese lady who sat in front of me. I could smell her body odour. So maybe if she use a heavier perfume, then that might help. Nonetheless, very good video. Very informative 😊

A girl who you later on in life can benefit from your mastery of the language. It’s unfair to assume that anyone in the relationship should have to spend their time for advanced communications. Physical signals are always a plus for both when learning your partners manurisms.
