Who are Trist and Kez
We’re Trist and Kez, a couple in their 40’s. We’ve sold everything for a life on the road. Come and join us as we show you our Van life UK Travel Series. We show the best spots for van camping, hiking and exploring, from the countryside to the coastline of our home island.
👫🐶 Our aim as (another) van life couple (and our dog and cat) is to document each UK road trip we take, sharing tips and tricks for van camping in the UK. In summary, we want everyone to be able to access the magic that van life UK opens to us all. Adventures in the great outdoors. We also appreciate that travelling in a van with a dog isn't always the easiest, therefore everywhere we share is 100% dog-friendly.

For me personally the biggest rather negative surprise was the fear of having the van being broken in. I also do Vanlife with cat and dog and depending on where i am wild camping inget so overwhelmed with that fear. Mainly because of my cat. The Van and my stuff are just thing. Replaceable. But if my cat is gone, a family member would be missing. And the most positive surprise is that i don't miss anything from living in an apartment. I thought i would grave some luxuries. But honestly i don't 😊 and last but not least a little tip: finding yourself an inside hobby that doesn't require electricity (poor solar in winter) makes winter nights and mornings much more enjoyable. I myself knit and crochet but it's for sure not the only possible hobby 😊 sorry for any mistakes, i am not native but i think you will understand my points. I love your Videos as i started Vanlife in UK as wel ❤ keep going guys

Thank you so much for your in depth comment. Yes being broken into is a big concern. We always park in certain places to try and counteract the fear. But you just never know. Made worse by having a cat in the van most of the time. We always say if we’re not feeling the park up we move on. Always follow your gut instinct. Hobbies are a great addition. We both took up a little knitting this winter 🤗. But having a few hobbies definitely help with the shorter daylight days. Love the idea of non electrical based hobbies 🔥. Thanks so much for the kind comment. New video out this Sunday with some hidden gems to explore 🤙🏽😎

Thanks for sharing your insights, really interesting. The campsite prices are ridiculous in the UK. When my daughters were young you used to be able to camp for under £10 a night now it's three times that and it's pricing people out of simple camping which used to be a cheap holiday for those who couldn't afford 'proper' holidays in hotels or abroad. Not a camperlife thing, but related, YHA are similarly pricing themselves out of the equation. It costs more for a family to stay in bunk beds for a week than renting an entire holiday let! Boils my piss to use a great British phrase.

Thanks for commenting Lottie. It’s crazy the price of some places we’ve found. It sadly doesn’t encourage people to go to campsites or holiday in the UK. We’ll be sure to share some more free or budget friendly places soon 😎.

@@TristandKezsadly we came across this when we were on our travels at christmas, some of the sites were astronomical in there pricing, sadly this ruins it as when Europe becomes cheap to travel to again etc everyone who's been staying at home will go back and then the British holiday places will moan they have a chance to draw people in but instead just rip off

  • @TristandKez

Yeah the pricing of some places is criminal in all honesty… not all but a lot. We haven’t ventured to Europe but it has a big pull for us in terms of van life. More accepting and campsites and aires don’t all cost the earth. It’s a shame here as we are seeming to do ourselves out of a lot. Thanks for getting involved in the campsite chat. We were wondering if it was just us that saw it this way 🤣

Ive been living full time in my van for 21 months, I was lucky and was able to live off grid for 11 months while working. before i gave up work and travel full time. My advice would be use and stay in your van while building it. As what you think you need or how it looks will changer as you use it more. great blog

Thanks for sharing your tips I think van life is easier when you plan ahead as well as having backup plans especially when you need to find somewhere to sleep etc & I agree with having a few non driving days I hate it when I’m exhausted after a really long drive trying to find somewhere to park which isn’t always easy & frustrating

Thanks for dropping us a comment 🤙🏽. Bob driving days are a must for us now 🤗. I think we feel the same, after a long drive there is nothing worse than finding your park up isn’t what you thought it was and having to move on. A back up plan is a must. These things have gotten a lot easier the more we do it but always good to have a plan A and B. Have an awesome week ahead 😎🤙🏽

Love the nature aspect. Once you have parked it is amazing how the animals and birds ignore the big white box. We have had Deer and Pine Marten up close, Seal and Dolphins nearby and all sorts of birds which I love. Weather in Scotland is easy. It rains for 9 months each year. The other 3 months it drips off the trees LOL

It’s been such a huge one for us. The bird song is our new favourite soundtrack 😎. And to see wild animals is just next level… where did you guys see Dolphins? We still haven’t seen any and they are my favourite animal (Trist). ‘3 months it drips off the trees’ 🤣 love it… The weather seems to be on the way to spring and now the lighter days are here. It makes this life even better.

Great vid as usual and love the point about the different types of van life. We just fell into our set up when we went full time in January. Since then we have minded a wedding venue plus animal care. Now a week of house/pet sitting until the weekend when we pick up the warden job in Dumfries and Galloway. Unsure how it will go but hey that’s life. Take care Dave

Thanks Dave. Sounds stupid but it’s something we didn’t think about before starting our journey. We jump straight into van life like we did when we weren’t full time. Sounds like you guys have found some interesting alternative ways to do this life and we love hearing about them. Also great for others reading this to see what’s possible. Best of luck starting the new warden job this week guys 😎🤙🏽

Hi you 3. We have just noticed your channel. I love that you have brought up the stupid prices of campsite fees. You said you are in your 40’s and not Morons 😂. The people that are Morons are the people that actually are still staying at these rip off merchants (high priced campsites). We don’t live in our motorhome, but still won’t pay the stupidly high prices. If everybody said “No”, and stopped frequenting them, they would have to put the prices down. We have to all make a stand !!

  • @TristandKez

Welcome to the channel and thanks so much for dropping us a comment. Some campsite prices are criminal 🤣 for what you are actually getting. Sometimes it’s just water, waste and grass… it can be nuts looking for campsites. Especially out of season. We didn’t realise so many places are shut. Hey you live and learn lol. In this week’s video we actually share an awesome campsite for £20, private pitches, waterfall and plunge pool on site. Plus it has a wood fired sauna (sauna is extra). We wanted to balance things out 🤗. We will share more reasonably priced places soon and on the website. But yes I think you’re right and this probably goes for more things in life, if we stand up we can make a change together.

Yeah that’s our feeling. Just had a look at some campsites this morning and so many have been £40 for parking on grass. Love when places charge for a dog too 🤣😂. This week to balance things we share an affordable campsite with its own waterfall and plunge pool 😍. It was a very unique experience 🤙🏽😎
