I think a reason why a lot of games recommended are a bit simpler is because mroe advanced projects are harder to understand the scripts of for a less experienced scratcher, and getting recognition for your own project is motivating too. Gotta practice before you can make anything particularly ground breaking. Making simpler and less unique games gives you more options in terms of tutorials to follow and projects to check for inspiration. The primary demographic is children after all. The site focuses more on the learning and collaboration aspect than being a library of things to check out like sites full of professionally made games.

you have a good point but what more can you learn from a front page full of the same projects just with some slight color changes? i think scratch should have a larger variety of projects than recommending the same thing over and over again. scratch could do this by checking the tags, and if all of the project have the "platformer" tag in them, maybe recommend more projects with other tags. but again, scratch admins are a bunch of unpaid volunteers, i dont think they will ever change this or do anything about it.

my best tip for games is make them EXTREMELY easy to understand and get he hang of, but still very hard to actually play, i think this is why i enjoy mario bros so much, so simple to understand, but yet very challenging to actually beat the levels

why are you pepole in scratch making so many platformers?

ive been doing scratch for literally over half my life yet none of my games get popular lol. closest ive gotten is a terrible breakout remake with 53 views.

The thing I hate the most about scratch is how sensitive they are about fnaf projects. I had a fnaf account with like 200 hours of work put into it and scratch deleted that account without hesitation, even though it didn't break any guidelines

Another thing: of you really want to try making a platformer, Please don't make the player a square with an eyeball.

I really dislike that scratch is mostly target for young kids, it could've been for people much older than that, like maybe 13 yrs old, because just being 12 in scratch is incredibly hard and is just so sad to see literal 9 year olds being in the front page, I do scratch for fun but this doesn't seem fair for actual genuine scratchers who puts quality in their game, also btw i think you got ur calculations wrong in 0:12 it's actually 99% of platformers goes to the front page. I think scratch would be much better if it had an actual moderation team that plays the game and reviews them and see if they deserve to go to the front page, cause sometimes I would see a project with no effort get top loved, anyways good video and have a nice day :)

You don't even have to click the Like and Favorite button! You can just hover your mouse over the button, and it'll work just fine. They can't detect if you actually Click your mouse, just if your mouse is in the position of the button.

I agree with all of these but especially the last fun for me I have about 15+ projects some are pretty decent and some are meh but I get barley and following on their and idc I just enjoy the coding and it makes proud of my self and I just have fun!!

I made the game, but the scratch team deleted my accoutn and all of the projects on it, including Emoji Hit

When I make games they often take up to half a year of consistent work what’s unfortunate is my last game was a flop after 9 months of programming art etc. 😂 anyways I put it on newgrounds though and it got like 200 views with a 3.3/5. So that’s a good tip for getting views too

i dont think making your game a certain way helps with getting on the front page. i mean i know that if your game looks polished, kids will like it which helps with getting it featured. but 4yr kids on scratch will like anything honestly so the quality isnt everything. at the end of the day, the scartch front page algorithm get to decided. im speaking from exprience, the best way to get on trending is advertsing, spamming in studios, and tons... tons of tags. also, you need to make sure you're active in the community. you can comment frequently on other's projects. there is always a change some scratcher will visit your profile because they saw your comment

I am not lazy, I don't make easy (mostly) games. Actually, in my opinion, I do think that almost everything on the featured page is easy and too simple (and sometimes even bad like a 5 yr old did it). Please don't say that for all of us, thanks! :)

...Scratch is mainly for kids learning how to make structured code in simple blocks-like form. It wasn't supposed to be used for things like 3D or something similar like gigantic tilemaps. Of course you can create these features on Scratch, but that will be just rewriting things which exist. That's the reason why 80% of Scratch games are so basic - because Scratch doesn't have build-in features for something harder and more complicated than usual 2d platformer like Super Mario Bros.

You'd be surprised by the complicated things that come out of simple blocks like Scratch. It is basically just code in a visual form, what is a high-level programming language like c# against Scratch? Scratch just makes it more accessible, though it might have less features, you can still create complicated things.

Gosh some of the really REALLY good platformers aren't a thing because they are just bad. some I played LET YOU SKIP THE LEVEL 3 year old's more like 1 year old's if they cannot even beat the level. and that game had very VERY many bugs just like all of them. new scratchers make good games because they aren't bad like the old ones who just make the same game give it a new look and upload.
