Great video. And in general I like the advice. With that said, I always hear that beginners should start with "Biginner" corals. Much of that opinion has to do with this thought that beginners may not have put enough research into the hobby before getting into it, or, that somehow their system parameters are going to not be stable. I think it is a short sighted view because the reality is that there is nothing stopping a beginner from keeping what most consider more advanced corals and doing so successfully. It is all about following the correct plan and if a beginner arms themselves with the proper knowledge and set-up, they can be just as successful with more "advanced" corals.

Travis Kibel, I agree, i am a beginner but i studied biology with a speciality in aquaric ecosystems and chemistry. I started with a 80L aqua medic blenny reef tank of 5 years old and added multiple sps species (montiporas, acroporas, seriatapora and stylophora) and all are doing quite well and are growing for weeks now. Its just about doing your research and following the care requirements for the corals. You want acro’s? Its not like all need strong flow and high lighting requirements, some or even most species do but even there are variations. The experienced reefer knows this but new people can study these things too

My god!! Look at the growth difference from 11 months ago to your 300g reef tank videos today. This is what I'm talking about, take the advice from people who have a successful reef tank, the results are proof that they are doing it right, and Travis my man, you are doing it right! Great advice in this video, a good refresher for me to avoid any mistakes in restarting my 125g reef tank.

Hey bud I really like the simplicity and the way you have setup the tank, I normally don’t comment at all but looking at your tank I must say I love the setup simple yet looks elegant. And great tips as I am just starting my tank next week and will run just with dry rock and live Hawaii black sand for 4 to six weeks before I add the pair of clowns in it and then slowly add corals starting with Anemone and then some other ones. Keep up the great work.

Hey this may be a dumb question, but at what point do you feel a tank is FULLY cycled? Like I know water should have 0 ammonia and nitrite and very little nitrate in the end, but what other things outside of that do you think I should wait on?

So, when my coral arrive, how exactly do i go about removing the coral from the frag disk? I didnt even know you had to remove them lmao, my corals are being shipped now (the tank is fully cycled and prepped) but, how do you usually cut it off? I thought the corals naturally removed themselves from it eventually?

So this all started with a fish. He is right. Go slow, study, and if you are lie me, it will still screw up occasionally. My last screw up was peppermint shrimp.they ate My hammerhead and trampled everything else. Btw - Acros really are hard to keep alive long term. My big enemy (at home) is green algae . With the tanks at work our tank is hair algae.

@@freddiechapman7312 im done cycling and im thinking of sugar dosing since i did a 50% water change and my nitrates are still off the charts at 160+ which is horrible. Cant do alot of water changes since my family will kill me for the huge amount of water wasted lol specially since RO/DI wastes so much water aswell.
