@@nobleman9393 Not really. One simple fact is is that the Republic had gone 1000 years without any major conflicts. Jedi handled small scale stuff, and planets solved their issues internally because relying on the Republic Senate was useless, see Naboo. No one was really trained for war or tactical deployments or thinking strategically. Some Jedi did a great job like Anakin or Obi Wan Kenobi, but others were barely leaders at all and got troops and equipment killed and destroyed in far larger numbers than was necessary because they threw troops at the problems then ran off to fight themselves. Admiral Yularen didn’t like working with the Jedi most of the time because they lacked common sense and got troops killed a lot. The Jedi’s training made them susceptible to death and the dark side because they had become divorced from reality and how to empathize to others that so much exposure to so much pain, suffering and death, as well as the burden of being given command made them reckless, stupid or experiencing pain, anger and fear where they never had to before and did not know how to deal with it.

I've always felt that the way the Jedi treated Anikan after they basically left his Mother to die on Tatooine was the wound that drove him to the Dark Side. I mean, think about it. When adults of any kind, (parents, teachers, etc.) violate a child's trust on a deep level, that child could act out that rage and pain in adulthood. Even if thay don't, they will find it really hard to trust anyone around them. I always told my friends who love Star Wars that in my mind, Anikan never forgave the Jedi Council, their struct rules damaged his ability to embrace attachment to his Mother and led to him killing Padme and thus was much more suseptable to Palpatine's manipulation.

Here's the thing though; Anakin didn't have to be a Jedi. He had other options for a fulfilling career, especially after the battle for Naboo. How many other nine-year old boys could win a pod race and a space battle in practically the same week? Qui-Gon also should have made it perfectly clear the sacrifices Anakin would have to make as a Jedi. Sure, he warned him that being a Jedi was a hard life, but that doesn't tell you a lot, especially from a child's perspective. You can't be implicit with something that life-changing. Not that that excuses the Jedi Order's methods.

  • @casbot71

A suggestion I've made before for rebuilding the order … *breeding programs.* Being accepted in the Jedi order basically _makes your linage end,_ … having a high Midiclorian count means you won't breed and you therefore become a genetic dead end (and your parents may be hesitant to have more children in case they could also be recruited). The Jedi are unintentionally breeding out Force sensitivity! Imagine if the Jedi academy was like college or University… a lot of pairing ups, and future parents who have degrees. And after a few generations of Jedi on Jedi action they'll end up with a Kwisatz Haderach. Isn't that what the whole bloody Skywalker clan are? And as for the Order and it's recruitment polices, instead take the whole family if they are willing (and suitable). A lot of disadvantaged family would jump at the chance to be ancillary staff at a Jedi facility (and not just the academy … Anakin's mum could have been a general hand at off world agriculture centre, Ani gets to correspond with her occasionally and visits after certain milestones … and he knows she's taken care of by his "Jedi Family"). The Jedi academy is like a boarding school, not a monastery. The kid goes to Jedi school while the rest of the family does whatever mundane job they are capable of… and incidentally also make more kids that would be more than likely to be Force sensitive (even as a regressive gene, so generations down the line…). [That was my concept for post Order 66 - grab whole families and start a Force sensitives colony in the unknown regions or on a large ship].

A slight counterpoint for the taking of kids: It *really* depends on what those force-sensitive kids are capable of. If the kids have enough force powers to physically overpower their parents, they'll ultimately be impossible to discipline at home. Also, every generation of kids has a bullying problem. It'd be way worse if the bullies had telekinetic powers. So you'd probably want something like a boarding school like how X-men does it. Ofcourse the counter-counter point is most jedi need years of training to be able to use force powers.

@@seprithlicastia463 He wasn't the most powerful, he had the most potential. He never ever lived up to it either. The Force can manifest in different ways. Darth Bane was able to use the Force more innately in his teens and early adulthood, like using the Force to crush his father's heart after a night of harsh abuse, or using a sniper rifle to kill five or six Republic troopers in less than seven seconds. Palpatine in his teens unconsciously used the Force to vaporize his parents, siblings, and bodyguards in his teens. To be fair that was because of intense emotional buildup and release but still shows it can be dangerous given time and the right circumstances. That said Anakin wasn't really at a breaking point of that sort before the Jedi Order.

The pov that normal citizens are lesser and can't relate, childhood indoctrination and being taught in a bubble so they don't understand the enemy. The jedi don't prepare their inductees for dealing with the darkside and sith. This lead to their downfall. The space marines and primarchs were not taught about chaos which led to the horus heresy.

Jedi are no longer a part of the Republic, or any of the other galactic governments that formed in the wake of the First order. They are still too few and far between to even consider mass adoptions of force sensitives, and most often when a Jedi is looking for an apprentice, they are looking for a more developed individual who can handle a life of travel, and training. One of the issues of the Jedi order was that they functioned in a republic that lacked the constitutional strength for separation of powers. This forced the Jedi into multi-tasking roles they weren't prepared for. For example, if the republic had developed their own, organic military it would be separated from the Trade Federation's agenda. If the judiciary were separated from the trade fed, their aggression wouldn't have been tolerated. If the senate & exec (Palp) were separated & term limited by a clear & strong constitution, the Empire wouldn't be created. A good constitution would have clearly separated the powers of; executive, senate, Jedi council, judiciary, legislative, banking, media, military, police, etc. This would mean the Jedi council is a part of the republic, but not under bureaucratic control at all. So the Jedi would be free to follow the will of the Force & serve the republic.

Some other essential changes that need to be made to the Jedi recruitment practices should be to give new potential members the option to choose whether or not to join the order in the first place, develop a system of auditioning type tests to help find out what their lack of Jedi potential is (since anyone could claim to be force sensitive), and not let there be an age restriction because their could always be force sensitive adults out there who need as much training as any child (in fact, I hope that Rey will make this video’s changes to the Jedi going forward). I also hope that a step back from their fundamentalism would include allowing them to have human attachments.

One big improvement would have been having in-house therapists, preferably ones that come from outside the order. Jedi are suppossed to let go of negative emotions, but to do that you first have to process these emotions, which often times is not easy all by yourself. Anakin turned to Palpatine because he felt that he had no support within the order and likely was afraid of getting punished for the whole marriage thing. If he had had the opportunity to talk to a neutral third party about his worries, in the knowledge that nothing he said would get back to the council, he might have been less susceptible to the dark.

Well, there are plenty of points that I would technically defend, but I ultimately agree with the direction you’re going with this. Sure, I’d take in Force sensitive newborns as soon as possible, but I’d never deprave them the essentials to grow up with the ability of what the modern world needs the most: self control. A good example of self control, but in the Covid-19 pandemic context, is where masks function in a similar way to the X-Men’s Cyclops’s visor, except that visor/mask is covering the mouth, not the eyes. Thus, with proper training, those who’re pretty powerful in the force can control themselves better & live fairly normal lives of their choosing…

First one the answer is no as the Sith are evil will never accept peace. It would be like giving pork to a Muslim. Second one no Palpatine was perfectly following the spirit in the rule of two. The rule was made with the specific intention that there would at least one potential apprentice held by the current apprentice and a few backup apprentices for the master. This is actually shown in Darth Plagueis where after having killed his own master, Plagueis is attacked by one of the potential back-up apprentices his master had and then killed the other ones he had on stand-by.

The Force Awakens made it seem like you can wield the full powers of the force without any training or even knowledge you have the force. Forget about the years of training, just pick up a lightsaber and you can get all the skills that use to take years of training to aquire. Then there was the Last Jedi and I have not clue what they were trying to tell other than Luke is a grumpy old man now! I don't know why Ray wanted to be trained by Luke because I thought she got all the skills she needed when she picked up her lightsaber? In the first prequel film there is a scene which to this day infuriates me. This is when Yoda, who is a throughly annoying and infuriating character, says that Anakin should not be trained because he is too old and more important because he is fearful for himself and his mother and this fear will lead to suffering and hence the darkside. In otherwords Anakin's fear based on his love for his mother, mainly, is bad. Whatever. Further suffering is always bad. Really? In the context of Yoda's comments this seems to mean that empathy that causes you to suffer because of what might or is happening to someone else is bad. After all Yoda is clearly saying that Anakin's fear for his mother is bad so then so is empathy for his mother's position. This all goes to the sense of detachment that the Jedi seem to prize above all. A sense that can best be created by seperating infants from their families early so they can be more effectively brainwashed into being detached.
