    Took a doe today. Perfect stalk hunt. Wet leaves, down-wind, sun rise at my back, moving up hill. Got 40 yards away. I love stalk hunting. But it takes a lot of knowledge and practice to become efficient.

    GREAT VIDEO! An extra pair of THICK HUNTING SOCKS make a good final spot & stock trick for quietly approaching your quarry. When your close enough for a final "SNEAK STOCK" to shoot, remove everything unnecessary (backpack, layers of clothing, etc.). However, don't forget where you left them! If you catch your quarry lying down, patiently wait for the animal to get up unalarmed. If you attempt to call your quarry to a standing position, they may just jump and run.

    When you stalk, make deer calls to make them think you are just another deer walking in the woods. This will put them at ease for the surprise, of coarse it won't work if they see you already.

    I have a system on being insanely quiet, starting with modern underlayment sytem depending on temps outside but i usually dont walk and stalk till its cold out, I wear my battery powered heated socks I put on my waiters that I glued thin leather to the bottom of the feet so not to rip them when walking because i do NOT wear any shoes/boots. It's water proof my feet stay super warm and I can not only walk faster but I can walk as silently as them! You can feel the twigs and leaves and adjust your step so it's quite! I then had a local lady make me pants and jacket out of deer fur with the fur facing out which I dyed in a orange/black pattern so I don't get shot lol but that is the only material that I found that I can walk though brush and branches and not make a unnatural noise!

    The breaking of sticks is what gives you away. Deer are used to hearing leaves crunching and rustling, but something large enough to break twigs is a different story. Great tips!

    Nice short to the point video with no annoying music. Stalking in socks is great but depending on terrain it sucks when you step on a thorn,or a sharp rock. What I like is wearing heavy over sized socks over my boots,that I get both benefits quite footfalls and foot protection. Cheers subbed.

    Moccasins work but are rather expensive, and you can tear them up fairly easy if your not gentle with them.and if you use them where I'm from you'll constantly get them wet you don't want swamp foot . Indian's used them because they had no other choice.

    The wind direction changing based on geography is a big thing! I have a lake I fish that is man made in some big hills. The wind is almost always blowing one direction on various points in the lake. I’ve always guessed it was how the land is shaped that just funneled it a certain way, almost not mattering which way your weather app said it was blowing.

    I know you said to choose camo based off terain, but that can be very in acurate. Watch videos baswd off deer vision, and how 3ach cammo will look to a deer. Some of the most popular one will stick out like a sore thumb to them, its the diffrence of blending in, vs what looks to deer, that looks like somthing that we could see from space.

    Hey man, so I am trying to get into bowhunting and am trying to get down the essentials. When looking for binoculars, should I find something fancy or are there inexpensive options that still have great quality? Also, what about range finders?

  • @InformedOutdoors

    @InformedOutdoors

    5 жыл бұрын

    For your binos it would kind of depend on the type of terrain you hunt. If you hunt a lot of open fields, or out west where you'll need to glass a long distance, a "fancy" pair of binos would make more sense. I hunt in mostly wooded areas and use a basic set of binos that I got from bass pro that were around $75 and it is plenty. I would save my money toward a good range finder. I cannot recommend a specific brand because I've only owned one range finder (Bushnell Bone Collector) but I've had it for a few years and it has served me well. Read a lot of reviews.

    Range finder for spot and stalk .. a plain Jane GOOD pair is what you want ... I use nikon aculon... all it does is distance .. you dont need shot angles , temp and all the extras that cost extra money .. look for a good used pair of both binos and rangefinders .. Walmart is a great place for binos ... and you dont need camo, sometimes camo means more money an 80 dollar pair of camo binos might be 60 in black

    I drove up to a tree line behind a building and got out, shut the door, and walked up to 4 foot grass, and a buck with 8 points rose its head up and was 10 yards or less. sadly it was not in season.

    How often do you use a cross wind when you use do a spot and stalk. I use milk weed for a wind indicator when I go bowhunting. How long does it take to become a good spot and stalk whitetails?

  • @InformedOutdoors

    @InformedOutdoors

    8 ай бұрын

    Cross winds can be good too, it just depends on where the deer are and how the terrain is laid out. It take a long time to get good at spot and stalk. You just have to keep trying and be okay with getting busted a few times.

    Why should I wear minus one layer of clothes when doing spot n stalk compared to still hunting? Sounds very interesting, I would've never thought of that, and I would like to know the reason behind it.

  • @InformedOutdoors

    @InformedOutdoors

    Because when you’re moving you’re generating a lot more heat compared to just sitting there. You’ll also be able to move more freely and more quietly with fewer layers.
