My #1 advice is *hit up your university librarians* early & often! Librarians are a researcher's best friend, which is why grad students actually use the library at a higher rate than undergrads. Aside from being able to help folks find *the best* research literature that's relevant to an individual's needs, they also offer classes on all kinds of things: - Doing annotated bibliographies & systematic reviews - Making citation management painless - Thesis formatting and workshopping - Programming for statistics and data analysis - Finding hard/obscure data - Sharing your research in impactful ways - And more! Excellent work, Ali -- super relevant and has me thinking about ideas for my channel now... *thinking emoji*

FANTASTIC tip! Going in person to the library is such an overlooked strategy to get help with research. Thanks for sharing this!

100% applicable for me as I go through my doctorate in counselling psychology. The difference between consuming material (undergrad) and actually creating it (in grad school) is one of the biggest things to consider I feel.

Thanks for this, Dr. Ali - very insightful 😄 I am an aspiring Psychologist who just started my Grad School / Masters's in Clinical Psychology this year. I am very grateful to have come across your channel for your content. As your other videos helped me deal with coping and other stuff, this content would be beneficial as I start this career in this field! (though this video is already 4yrs old, it's still relevant 😅) Indeed, I will watch out for any of your new videos! Cheers

Hi Ali, I did my Bachelor's from Psychology but post that I went on to pursue MBA and now I'm working in a company as product manager. I still think and go back to the idea of pursuing Psychology and opting for Masters in it. Is it a crazy idea? I really feel my heart is in it. I stumbled upon your channel while analysing Everything and it seems you might help me. 🙂

I am a bit late watching this video, but I have a question for anyone who might be able to help. I moved to a different state with a culture I don't exactly mesh with, and have had difficulty bonding with my cohort and many people within the department. We just have very dissimilar interests, personalities, levels of privacy, at different stages of life, and low key there is a lot of department drama I try to stay away from. Being 4 years into my program, I am emotionally exhausted and feel pretty lonely, and at this point am willing to accept that I just probably won't be close with my cohort and a lot of people in the department, and that is ok. Do you know of any other ways to find people outside of the department's small community? any tips about how to become social again after having years not talking about anything but work?

You may want to go to a therapist to sort things out. When our mind gets cluttered, we need someone who knows how to fix it correctly. I hope things are getting better for you :)
